My Dad taught me that fishing was a sport and that meant using light tackle and proper drag. It teaches you to give the fish a fighting chance and it means you learn to hook properly and land them properly. We bass fished mostly and never used any line over 8lb test, sometimes 6 and even 4lb. I dearly miss those very special days with him out on the lake. 😊😊😊😊😊

I grew up using light line and gold eagle claw hooks. I fish for bigger things now so I use bigger tackle. But the memories are still there

Yeah light tackle is fun amd drag pealing bjt i like to horse the fish i can use the drag if i have to

Some people say that light tackle stresses the fish out by prolonging the fight.

If im fishing laydowns or around big rocks and boulders theres no way in hell im using anything lighter than a medium fast action.

    • @joegrande4848

@andrewszot3094 it helps wear a fish down to bring the fish in. Long as you take the time to revive them your good. Also take a picture an hold them in the water gently moving fish to circulate oxygen to the gills. Once they start pulling let go immediately 😊

Another good un, Richard. Ain't nothing wrong with a day of catfishin.
You're right about another thing, a good church, a day of fishin or hunting, you can not go wrong.
If you got any issues, get on the water or the woods first thing before the sun comes up and be there for God waking the world up, Ain't nothing better. I don't see how anyone couldn't believe in God as the world goes from night to day, and everything comes to life. There is a beauty that man can not duplicate.
Thank you, Richard, for all the tips and techniques you give us and for taking us along.
God bless ya'll and stay safe out there on your travels to these beautiful places.

My daddy was a trot liner and would vary from 2’ of water stretched between stakes to 30’ of water between cinder blocks and would tear them up. We had fish fry’s regularly and I went with him every time. Sometimes we would go over to the lake on school nights and I was ready. I never forgot those times. Do you ever do any trotlining? Your show brings back memories.

The very reason that I subscribed to Richard’s channel isn’t just because he’s a great fisherman, but he is a great fisher of men. In many my of his videos he tries to reach anyone who might be experiencing hardship in their lives, and his gratefulness for what the Lord has done in his life is palatable. The peace he refers to in this video is available to anyone no matter what you’ve done, or who you are. It’s a peace that surpasses all understanding, and it’s available to “YOU” right now. Go get you some!
Matthew 4:18-20 Jesus said to Peter and Andrew “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”

Up here in Illinois, they get bigger than the ones you caught in this video. I suspect they get more fishing pressure where you are, so maybe that's why they don't get quite as big. The Illinois state record Channel Cat is a bit over 45 pounds. I've never seen one that big but I've seen some big ones from the Kankakee River back in my younger days.
