Taylor Sheridan, the man who created Yellowstone is an executive producer of this Bass Reeves mini series.
And Taylor is pretty phenomenal when it comes to accuracy of a subject. It actually important to him, to get things right.

@@westendlawn Don't have Paramount+ so I have to wait for it to hit another streaming service but I hope you are right. Have not seen any of the "Yellowstone" shows but I have heard good things about them. I noticed the title is "LawMEN" not "LawMAN" so I wonder if they are going to do a bunch of limited series, each featuring a different lawman. That could be good, especially for a history buff like myself.

I wrote my final college paper on Bass Reeves. I live in Arkansas and was amazed that no one had heard of him. Details were scare about the US Marshall. Professor Art Burton was the only real source I could find. I contacted him and he went out of his way to help me any way he could. I doubt he remembers me but I will always be grateful for his kindness. Bass Reeves was indeed the "real deal" and it makes my heart sing that he is finally getting his due. If you are ever in NW Arkansas (Fort Smith), you can find a statue of Marshall Reeves and his trusty horse located next to Judge Parker's gallows.

The series is long long over due.
Another under appreciated figure in movies is Thomas-Alexandre Dumas. Many more roaring stories could be made of his escapades.

It was mind-blowing to discover that the Lone Ranger was based on the adventures of Bass Reeves. History has always been my favorite subject but Reeves was never mentioned when I was in high school. Just like the Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 was ignored by schools. There is a lot of black history that has been suppressed or whitewashed. Now, today's technology is bringing a lot of truths to light.
Black history is American history 💯

Who knew, not me! Back when I went to school, 50’s and 60’s, there wasn’t any black history or American Indian history. We didn’t even graduate learning about WW1, barely touching on WW2 and nothing about the Korean War. Vietnam was happening at the time so we definitely didn’t touch on that in school. Luckily my parents were both vets of WW2 so I learned at home what the schools didn’t teach us. My brother was in Vietnam and there was a lot of news coverage, I also learned from my peers.
Sadly nothing was taught about the contribution and struggles of the black community.
At 73 I continue to learn with an open mind daily.
Now I have another book to read.

No, The Lone Star Ranger is what the Lone Ranger is based on. It was published in 1915, but was itself a reworking of a couple different versions by the same author, Zane Grey.
Bass Reeves’ story shares some similarities, to be sure, but it wasn’t the basis of the Lone Ranger.

@@loudrimshot And allow me to go on a bit. I put a similar response in a few other comment threads so I may have been a little tired by the time I typed the one to you….
I completely agree with you. First of all I’m not dismissing any connection between the two, it’s just Lone Ranger wasn’t specifically based on Bass Reeves. HOWEVER, there are some really interesting coincidences between Reeves life and the embellishments of the Lone Ranger from the original story he was based on. The tricky part is that there’s nothing verifiable by document or testimony. But the facts are entertaining.
I personally like to think there is a connection, because I love both, but I also don’t think there needs to be a connection. Bass should stand on his own merits, and I worry that when people start claiming that the Lone Ranger was based on him, because it’s a weak argument to make, Reeves will be diminished along with the claim. So for me personally, I think it’s an intriguing anecdote, but don’t want the rising awareness of Bass Reeves to be tethered too strongly to that claim.
I’ve been watching for a while wondering when they’d finally do Bass Reeves some justice, so thank goodness it’s finally come. I haven’t watched the show yet but we’re getting paramount next month and then I’m going to sit down and indulge it!

I am outraged that I only really heard of Bass Reeves less than a decade ago ...his name should have been mentioned in the same breath as the likes of Wyatt Earp over the last hundred-plus years...

The actor playing Zbass reeves was a very bad choice. He was a big man not a little man like the chosen David Oyelio

My gr-grandfather (mother's side) who lived to be 108 yrs old, purportedly ran into Bass out in open territory, in OK. He also ran into Cochise, as well.
My gr-grandfather supposedly couldn't take his eyes off this "law man". Wondered who would / how he got away with "dressing so fancy".
Bass supposedly asked in a very gruff mean tone, " ANYTHING wrong". To which my gr-grandfather said, " No. No sir. I don't suppose there is"....and kept on trucking.
    Lol
Gr-grandaddy had sense enough NOT to turn around on his horse.

..this guy, David Oyelowo, is SOOOO wrong to play Bass Reeves. Sad. Sad. Sad. Terrible. Typical Hollywood... from 6'2 plus to 5'9. Looks and feels NOTHING like the real Bass Reeves.
