    Yesterday, 4th Of July, I went to Park Furniture, in Altoona Pa and purchased the Tempur Breeze Lux in soft. I tried the firm but it was to hard for me. The soft was fantastic. They where giving the 899.00 adjustable base free!! I can not wait to move into my new apartment soon and start sleeping on my tempur breeze. Just being on it, in the store, I could tell how much cooler it was. Goodbye to waking up sweaty! I also got the tempur cloud pillow.

      Nice, the wife and I just purchased a Luxe Breeze soft as well. Can't overstate how "firm" the firm one was, after like 5 seconds on it we said nope and went with the soft. Really impressed with the bed, the features and the comfort. After pushing that "zero g" button I wanted to fall asleep right in the store.

    I just bought the luxe breeze soft and I was happy to hear you say that the “soft” expectation should really be considered “firm” I was definitely expecting a softer more sinking feel to the mattress, but it is still softer than my previous Cloud supreme breeze model (about 8 years old now and in the guest room). As far as the cooling cover, I think it would be more accurately described as cool to the touch at first. Within 5 minutes or so the cooling feel goes away BUT you still stay cooler as if you’re not building up body heat on the mattress for about another 15 minutes or so. After that it’s all up to the foams inside the mattress to regulate the temp and it definitely does a noticeable job of it. Heat will always build up during the night, as its trapped between the mattress and the covers, but it does a far better job of dissipating it then previous models and other mattresses (compared to loom and leaf and previous mentioned cloud model). All in all, I am sleeping much cooler and the bed is extremely comfortable. As far as price, yes it is expensive but buying direct from tempurpedic allows you to finance at 0 % interest for 4 years and some retailers will offer you the same as well. I highly recommend tempurpedic in general and this mattress in particular. I hope this was helpful.

      Christopher M Hey Chris, yes I bought the bed that’s in this review. I got the “soft” version that claims to sleep 8 degrees cooler. I am a VERY hot sleeper and have had issues with that for as long as I can remember. I’m also a strict side sleeper and tend to lean more towards my stomach rather than my back as I sleep. In terms of heat, I have been sleeping on the bed now for 3 weeks and I can say with certainty this is by FAR the coolest sleeping bed I’ve ever had. It does a really good job of dissipating your body heat throughout the night. I also have bamboo sheets (from amazon) that are extremely breathable and allow for more airflow. Something to bear in mind. It doesn’t feel or actually work the way tempurpedic markets it though. As I mentioned in my first comment, the cooling cover feels cool for a good 5 min, after that it’s more neutral feeling as if it’s not “cool” so much as it’s not getting warm. (That May make more sense once you get it and lay in it). As far as feel, the soft version is def. a med firm. I laid on this mattress twice before buying, in 2 different stores, and it was MUCH softer at the store than in reality. I don’t know if they get the mattress past it’s break in period before sending them out for display in showrooms but I do believe that’s what they did. All in all I love the bed because I am sleeping much cooler but there will be body heat retention, just not as much as any other mattress I’ve had or slept in, including the previous tempurpedic cloud supreme breeze, the Saatva zen haven (latex mattress) and the Saatva loom and leaf (memory foam mattress). Let me know if you wind up getting it and what you think or if you agree with my assessment. Good luck.

      @@kipperrd8964 Thank you for your reviews. I just wrapped up night two on my new ProBREEZE medium hybrid mattress. I recently bought the mattress, and like you, I definitely agree that the showroom model felt much "softer" than the new mattress that was delivered to my home. So much so that after night one, I checked the mattress and legal tag to make sure a "medium" mattress was delivered and not a "firm" mattress. Since these mattresses are so new, there aren't many reviews yet on TH-cam, or by Google search, so it's not quite clear if the "firmness" issue is just a prolonged break-in period. One of the few reviews I found (US-Mattress.com) did mention a multi-week break-in period, which would explain the aforementioned issue.
      I originally was going to buy a Purple .3 mattress when I began searching for a new bed. I test drove an original Purple, along with a Purple .2 at my local Macy's and liked them a lot; more so the .2 Purple. I'm a side/stomach sleeper, so I had my radar on the .3 Purple, but when I layed on and tested the ProBREEZE at the mattress shop, I was sold immediately. If I had to compare the two via a 1-10 comfort scale, I'd rate the Purple .2 at a comfort rating of 8 and the ProBREEZE at a 10, which was the floor model at Metro Mattress. After spending as much time as I could on the ProBREEZE medium hybrid, along with other models, I kept returning to the ProBREEZE medium hybrid. It just felt that good.
      I, too, sleep quite warm and the "cooling" marketing definitely caught my eye & attention. After two nights on the ProBREEZE medium hybrid, I can attest that I definitely agree and feel the cooling affects, almost immediately. Obviously, only two nights aren't enough time to conclude on whether this technology is a marketing gimmick or actually affective, but so far, I feel it does work and works very well. At this point, I can't comment on whether I agree/disagree with the cooling technology's longevity of 15 minutes or so. To me, I feel it lasts much longer, but again, two nights isn't enough to form a solid conclusion.
      Part of my "gift" for purchasing the Tempur-Pedic were two, off-brand memory foam pillows, along with an off-brand waterproof mattress protector. My salesman, who was excellent and more than helpful, explained that the mattress protector will breath and allow the cooling technology to work as intended, but still protect "your investment" from accidental spills, child messes and possible animal contact. In my experience, anything "waterproof" doesn't breath nearly enough to warrant that type of protection, unless you're in a down pour. I don't eat or drink in bed, nor do I have children, and my dog, a German shepherd, is not a contaminate worry of mine. I'm going to test the mattress protector for one week and compare it to no protector for a week to see if I notice any "cooling" differences. If you compare a waterproof/breathable jacket (Gore-tex) to a non-waterproof jacket, the non-waterproof will ALWAYS breath much, much better than a Gore-tex or similar shell during levels of exertion. Time will tell.
      My salesman contacted me after night one to see how I slept, which was a welcomed gesture. I explained to him that I felt the new mattress was much more firm than the same mattress I test drove at the store. He ensured me they're the same mattress and that this particular mattress will need a couple weeks to a month to "break-in," and for me to accustomize myself to the new technology, especially coming from a 14-year-old Spring Air mattress. He also mentioned that the showroom models receive tens, if not hundreds of testers, which would undoubtably "soften" the mattress quite a bit, compared to a brand new one. Point taken.
      All that being said, after only two nights, I have experienced no lumbar (lower) back pain, which was starting to manifest from my previous mattress. I've also noticed no pressure-point issues from side-sleeping, even though the mattress feels much more firm than the floor model I tested. Honestly, I'm hoping the mattress "softens" up a bit after the break-in period. That being said, so far, I'm very comfortable on the mattress despite its unanticipated initial firmness. Due to the fact the showroom model felt MUCH softer, I do believe there's a break-in period or else the showroom model would've felt just as firm as the new one. I will follow-up on this "review" in a month for anyone who's interested. Thanks!
      Just so there no confusion, I have no affiliation with any mattress manufacturer, shop or company & this is a genuine review of two nights spent on a brand new ProBREEZE.

      Hi and thanks for the question. "Phase change" materials like this are intended to stay cooler to the touch until you fall asleep - at some point your body is going to warm them and the effect will be lost. How quickly that happens depends on your body temperature, and the ambient room temperature and humidity. What you really want to know is how long it will "feel" cooler and even that is hard to answer -- while your hands might not perceive a difference of a couple of degrees, it might be enough for your body to react to it.
      Our best guess is that it's going to take anywhere from 10 to 20 minutes to 'warm up' the beads, depending on all those factors.

  • @Michael-wg6ly
    @Michael-wg6ly 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The cooling effect is a result of plastic beads that melt from a person’s body heat. Once the beads melt they no longer provide a cooling effect. How many years can we expect the cooling effect to last? Does tempur pedic have an answer to this question? Thanks

    Hi Mike, I just bought a Tempur-Pedic Luxe Adapt Firm mattress and it's going to be delivered in a week. I didn't buy the Breeze model because it was $1,000 dollars more. This is my first experience with a memory foam mattresses and I love the feel. I'm not really hot sleeper, only when the temperature is super high. Do you think this mattress will be cool enough for me or am I in for a big surprise? Please let me know if this mattress has a decent cooling system or not. I appreciate your reviews because they are unbelievably informative and scientific. Please get back to me. Thank you, Glen

      Hi Glen -- Thanks for your question. I wouldn't panic just yet. There are plenty of people who have no problem with sleeping hot on a memory foam mattress. It sounds like there's a decent chance you're in that group and would be just fine on the LuxeAdapt. If the store you purchased from has a return / exchange policy, you can always upgrade to the Breeze if the temperature proves to be an issue for you. I hope that's helpful.

    Hi Mike. Excellent information on all your Tempurpedic reviews - extremely helpful. My wife and I are 60 days into our trial period for our PRObreeze hybrid, and it’s still too firm for her, causing pain in the upper back area. I’m 5’11 170 lbs, and she is 5’6 130 - both are mainly side sleepers. We’re using the Tempur topper Supreme on top of the hybrid, and my wife’s issues are mainly gone. Since she’s happy with the topper on top of the hybrid, can you suggest which of the Tempurpedic mattresses would provide a similar feel and comfort/support level? Hi Derek. Have you taken our GoodBed Quiz? We designed it exactly for this type of question. You just answer some questions about your needs, sleep preferences, and body type, then we can match you against the hundreds of models in our database. You'll get a shortlist of models that should come closest to meeting your needs.
      As for the ProAdapt, it's an all-foam mattress (except for the one hybrid model), and for people concerned about sleeping hot, we typically would not recommend an all foam bed -- just from a practical standpoint, there isn't as much air flow as with a hybrid or innerspring mattress. The Hybrid version comes in Medium only. The Adapt and ProAdapt do have that new cooling cover -- and we did think the cover made a little bit of difference. But overall if heat is a big concern, going with a hybrid -- with its better airflow -- will likely feel cooler.
      Here's where you can start the quiz: www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/quiz/
      Hope that helps!

    I spent two years trying different bed-in-box mattresses & none of them were the right fit. The Tempur-pedic Contour Elite Breeze was my dream mattress for 4 years, but I would never be able to afford it. The Tempur-ProAdapt Firm is the most comfortable mattress I've ever tried in my life & I hoped they would make a Breeze version because I am a HOT sleeper. Instead they made a Breeze version of the Luxe Firm, which isn't even remotely as firm or supportive as the ProAdapt Firm. I was initially disappointed until I reached out to some local certified Tempur-pedic retailers who suddenly had to get rid of the previous generation of Breeze mattresses to make room for the new line. Because of this, I was able to a completely new queen Contour Elite Breeze for 50% off with a full 10 year warranty. I was also able to finance for four years, 0% interest. It's not the newest cooling technologies; it definitely doesn't help me sleep 8° cooler, like the Breeze LuxeAdapt Firm would. But it was $2300 less! I'll sleep with a fan on, thank you very much. I do wish there was a Breeze version of the ProAdapt Firm though. The APR+ foam on the top so you sink interact with it directly is AMAZING for someone like me with chronic pain.

    Hello, curious if you think a Tempur-pedicure mattress cover would impact some of the cooling properties of the breeze collection?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tim -- Thanks for your question. I think you'll find this answered in a number of other comments here, but the short answer is that any mattress cover can change, but should not eliminate, certain cooling properties of a mattress.
      Specifically, a cover will have the most impact on features that are designed to offer "coolness to the touch." Once sheets and/or a protector are added to the mattress, the coolness will be less evident "to the touch," but the underlying cooling effect will still benefit you as a sleeper. The fabric between you and the mattress just creates a small delay between when the heat leaves your body and when it reaches the cooling feature, but it won't prevent that heat from reaching the cooling feature.
      As you might expect, cooling features designed to add airflow to the mattress will generally be less affected by the sheets or protector, provided air can pass easily through those materials.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Hi, Thanks for your informative videos, I placed an order for tempur-lexe breeze firm mattress yesterday and I am wondering if it is the best option for me and since I still have the option to cancel or change it before delivery, I would love to hear your professional opinion on it. I watched your videos and I also did the quiz test. I definitely prefer the firm mattresses because of my increased thorasic and lumbar curvatures and also the fact that my experiences of sleeping on soft mattresses especially " sink in " part were always painful. Watching your video helped me to distinguish between softness and cushioning and the sales representative assured me "sinking in" in traditional mattresses is different than memory foam, however I still do not know if the cushioning part which I see as " sink in" part is a supportive feature or not. I am a physical therapist and I used to think firm mattress are supportive ones and however they do not give you the pleasure of being hugged by layers of cushion. I read and heard a lot reviews that 8 hours sleeping on a mattress is totally different than the first pleasant impression of cushining on the stores and this is the reason that makes me concerned about the whole memory foam or soft and firm mattresses. I should confess that experience of sleeping on tempur-pedic mattress in some body's home as a guest was pleasant but I do not know what model and firmness it was. I am a side sleeper, age range 40 and weight 130 LB. I would like to hear from you.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Hi Shadi -- Thanks for your question. It sounds like you learned some of the important distinctions in watching this video. In general, memory foam is a pressure-relieving material, not a support material. That said, the added conformance and cushioning depth it can provide can be OK or even preferable for a side sleeper, since your mattress needs to accommodate to more curvature when you're on your side. In your case, given your weight, I might have thought you'd have preferred the Soft version of the LuxeBreeze, but they are close enough in feel (both on the firmer side) that it's really just a matter of your preference on that. In short, though it's very hard to say with any certainty without seeing you on the mattress, given your weight and preference for side sleeping, I am not especially worried about the cushioning depth causing issues for you on the spinal alignment front.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Hi, what is the best mattress protector for the tempur-pedic probreeze hybrid? Or should I even keep a protector on? Does it mess up the cooling effect? Is the zip off protector waterproof? Thanks in advance.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thanks for the comment. We have a buyer's guide on mattress protectors on the GoodBed website: www.goodbed.com/guides/mattress-protectors/
      Generally, we always recommend using a mattress protector. It's a good way to protect your investment, since most (if not all) mattress warranties are void if the mattress is stained or damaged.
      As for negating the effect of the cooling features, yes and no. Your mattress will not be cool to the touch through the protector, but the cooling features will still do their job when the heat from your body reaches them after traveling through the protector. So while the cooling features will be more subtle in that sense, the protector should not otherwise affect the overall ability that these features offer to keep the mattress cooler while you are falling asleep.
      Hope that helps!

    How sustainable are these mattresses? How do they recycle these?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question.
      The availability and nature of mattress recycling varies quite a bit by state at this point, with fewer than 5 states having mandatory mattress recycling. In general, recycling of foam components (which are almost the entirety of the mattresses in this particular line) is far less developed than the recycling of metal components (eg, springs). So while some recycling can be done here, this type of mattress is not the most easily recycled. In terms of other sustainability factors, polyurethane foam (which is the principal material used in these mattresses) is a petroleum-based product, so it is not made from renewable materials.
      That said, in terms of the overall carbon footprint, a definite positive about this line is that all of these mattresses are 100% made in the USA. This means that they are shipped a modest distance compared to memory foam mattresses that are made overseas. It also means that they are made in adherence to strict regulations concerning environmental impact, which again contrasts sharply with most mattresses that imported from other countries.
      I hope that's helpful.

      Hi there -- Thanks for your comment. One thing I'd suggest is going to a store to try out the LuxeBreeze Soft to see how it feels to you. Softness can be very subjective, and it's also possible that what we think of as cushioning depth (of which the LuxeBreeze Soft has plenty) is more in line with what you think of as softness. Check the Tempur-Pedic profile page on GoodBed to see if there are any GoodBed trusted retailers in your area that carry Tempur-Pedic (this can also save you an extra $50):
      www.goodbed.com/mattresses/tempur-pedic/
      As a separate note, if you're set on that mattress, you could always add a memory-foam topper to give it some extra softness.
      Thanks again for the comment -- I hope that's helpful.

      GoodBed Thank you so very much for your quick reply! We have had 7 different mattresses in the last 15 years...I have chronic pain due to a disability and I need to be able to get some relief for my shoulders, hips and back. I spent 20 minutes on the Luxe Breeze and realized for the first time I didn’t feel pressure! I also sleep very hot because of the medications I take. I didn’t want to pick the top of the line, but it really seems to be a great mattress fit! I am not crazy about how the Tempur-Pedic feels when first sitting on it, but to be cushioned in felt so good. Last night I realized that I have to change positions on our Ghost Bed at least three times before I could even fall asleep. My husband said if I’m 100% sure that this is the winning mattress, we’ll figure it out, but we should first try to find a bed that mimics Tempur Pedic. Is that even possible? We’ve also had a Casper bed, Stearns & Foster, Sealy, to name a few. I’m only 52 so we want a mattress to last! Thank you for your honest reviews of beds and we are thankful to have found your channel!

    We purchased the Luxe breeze "Firm" and after sleeping on it for 2 months we are going to warranty it to change over to the "soft" version. I am a life long stomach sleeper and I purchased this mattress along with the Extend base in hopes of transitioning to a back or side sleeper (prefer back as I am supposed to use a CPAP). However I have not found a way for this to be comfortable on my back to the point where I could fall asleep on it. Do you think the "Soft" will be a better choice for trying to achieve this? I assume it is better suited for side/back sleepers then the "firm" seems to be. Thank you

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Joseph -- Thanks for your question. The right fit is going to depend on more than just your predominant sleep position -- most importantly your weight and body shape should be considered as well. But in general, I would say that the "Soft" will tend be a better match for side sleepers. Back sleepers are a bit more in between and many could probably find proper spinal alignment on either the Firm or the Soft. However there will be some back sleepers that will need the added cushioning depth and conformance of the Soft version in order to achieve proper spinal alignment -- I would expect this primarily among back sleepers who are lighter and/or curvier than me. As for side sleepers, I would say that the Soft version of this mattress would most likely be preferable from a spinal alignment standpoint for all the but the heaviest side sleepers.
      I hope that's helpful.

But if I were forced to make a prediction in this case, given the information you've provided, I would think that the Soft version might offer some improvement when sleeping on your side, but I would not generally expect a big improvement for back sleeping in your case. One big exception though would be if the discomfort on your back is coming from pressure points rather than improper spinal alignment -- if that is the case then the Soft might be an improvement on your back as well.

    Melting wax in my mattress?? Shouldn't that be a concern for durability and longevity? What if starts to seep out of the mattress? Can it actually do that?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ace -- Thanks for your question. I totally understand the concern you raised, however there are two small (but important) parts of the explanation that IMO completely mitigate any concerns on this front.
      First, the wax is not roaming free inside the mattress -- rather, it is contained inside tiny beads. Second, these beads are microscopically small -- so again, it's not as though you are sleeping on a layer of wax. Now, circling back to your concern about wax "seeping out of the mattress," I have never heard of wax seeping out of these beads, but even IF a bead were to break, at worst it could only release the microscopically small amount of wax that it contains. And even if EVERY bead were to break, there wouldn't be enough wax inside of them to "seep out" of the mattress.
      As for how this affects the overall durability, again I am not concerned here because PCM is generally applied as a very thin layer onto a given material -- as in, a few millimeters. This is enough to give that surface a palpable coolness to the touch, but it is not nearly thick enough to have any impact on how the mattress conforms to or supports your body. So, even if these tiny wax beads were like tiny balloons that could pop -- and even if every one of them did just that -- it would only mean that this layer could go from, say, 3mm thick to 1mm thick. So even in that fictitious worst case scenario, there would be no perceptible durability impact on the support or comfort characteristics of the mattress.
      I hope that's helpful.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      Hi Jorge -- Thanks for your question. Whether a mattress is "worth the price" is one of those impossible questions to answer. Is a BMW worth the price? Some people will argue that a Honda Civic will get you where you're going in the same amount of time for a fraction of the price. Others will argue that if you can afford it, the experience of driving a BMW is superior -- and for that, it is worth the extra cost. You can have the same debates about any highly subjective product. Mattresses are one of the most subjective products of all -- and unlike a car, you'll spend literally 1/3 of your life on your mattress during the time that you own it, which can be upwards of 10 years or more. So, do I think it's worth the price? My answer is that if you can afford it and if its features and characteristics are a good match for your personal needs, preferences, and priorities, then yes -- I absolutely think it's worth the price. That being said, the only mattresses about which I wouldn't say that would be ones where I believe you can literally get the exact same thing for less money (which despite what many other brands may claim, can not be said of Tempur-Breeze, or any Tempur mattress for that matter).
      In terms of the top 5-10 mattresses I recommend, this is actually one of those trick questions that most people don't know will lead them directly down the wrong path in their mattress research. The truth is that mattresses are highly personal, so the list of best mattresses for me will be very different from the list of best mattresses for you. This is why we created our advanced match quiz, which works by asking you all the relevant questions to fully assess your requirements (including some factors that might actually be important to you but that you would not have otherwise thought to consider), and then using an intelligent matching algorithm based on 10 years of data to search across all brands and stores (both online and in your local stores) to find mattresses that match your unique needs and preferences. To put it differently, it will show you a list of the top mattresses I recommend that is personalized for *you*. If you haven't already done so, you can take that quiz here:
      www.goodbed.com/mattress-finder/
      Going back to how your question can lead you astray, beware of any website that posts a list of the "best mattresses." This is actually one of the easiest ways to recognize that a mattress review website is deceptive and untrustworthy -- because any trustworthy resource would know that mattress fit is highly personal, as I just explained above. Most untrustworthy mattress review sites are actually just scams that simply show you lists of the mattresses that make them the most money. And about 20 of them are even owned or backed by mattress companies!! FYI, here's an article we wrote with some more detail on how to spot an untrustworthy mattress review site:

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Tommy -- Thanks for your question. I think that given the conforming properties of both of these mattresses, either of them would work for a side sleeper of your size, from both a spinal alignment and pressure relief standpoint -- though I might give a slight edge to the ProBreeze Medium Hybrid on this on account of it having a tiny bit more sinkage. For stomach sleeping, 4 inches of memory foam is generally not ideal, but given the fact that both of these are on the firmer side they would probably be OK for occasional stomach sleeping -- I'd give a slight edge to the LuxeBreeze Firm though in this area on account of it having a little less surface softness. But again, I think they are pretty similar in these areas so either could work for your needs here.
      In terms of other differences, the biggest one of course is that the PBMH is going to have a bit of deep bounce, whereas the LBF will have none -- no better or worse in either direction there, just a matter of personal preference.
      I hope that's helpful, and Happy New Year to you as well.

    The cooling ability will wear out from melting beads? How many years will that take?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Victor. Thanks for the question. The wax in the beads is encased in a tiny plastic shell, so the wax should not leak or dissipate. This technology hasn't been around long enough in mattresses to tell if there's some kind of half-life, where the wax does something weird like stays melted. Based on what we've seen of this material, we wouldn't expect its effect to degrade noticeably.
      What's more likely to make a difference in how warm a mattress feels is softening over time -- where your body sinks in more than it may have when you first purchased the bed. This is something that happens with all mattresses over a period of years, so slowly you most likely won't even notice. But when you sink in more, less of your body is exposed to the air -- so it's possible that over a number of years, you might feel a bit warmer for that reason.
      So to sum up: The useful life of phase-change materials isn't yet known. But just based on their construction, we would assume them to be very durable. Hope that helps!

    Once you have a thin mattress protector and a regular cotton fitted sheet on the mattress, do you think the temperature regulation benefits of the Breeze line are significantly diminished? Or still reasonably well intact to justify the price premium over the Adapt line?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. While it's difficult to scientifically measure the effect, our POV is that sheets and bedding are going to negate at least some of the 'coolness to the touch' sensation, but certainly not all of it.
      In general, the way these cooling solutions work is to absorb heat from your body, which creates a cooling effect during the time that you are falling asleep. While the addition of sheets and bedding is likely to impact the speed with which this heat is absorbed from your body (and thus will affect the 'coolness to the touch'), it should not affect the capacity for heat absorption. So in other words, the cooling effect should be a bit less pronounced, but also more prolonged. So overall, we would still expect the overall temperature regulation benefits to be meaningful, even with sheets and bedding.
      I hope that's helpful.

    Any thoughts on the durability of the support core of the hybrid vs the all foam? I’ve heard that polyfoam as a generality softens over time... I’m 200lbs wondering if the hybrid is going to support me better over years... or actually give out sooner??? I was looking at the proadapt medium (feels just right to me); or maybe the probreeze med or medhybrid. Proadapt hybrid feels too soft for me. Strict side sleeper

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. With most mattresses, the most noticeable wear and tear is going to come from loss of height and/or firmness in the comfort layers of the mattress (ie the upper layers), rather than the support layers of the mattress. That is because these are the layers that are enduring the most compression, and are exposed to the most heat and moisture as you sleep on the mattress. In this regard, Tempur-Pedic's comfort foams have a better reputation for longevity than any other memory foam on the market. This tracks to the fact that the 4" of comfort foam at the top of their mattresses averages around 5 lbs of density in the Breeze line, and around 4.5 lbs of density in the ProAdapt line, both of which are at the high end of the market today. With regards to the support layers, I don't see those as being nearly important as the comfort layers, however from a strict durability standpoint I would give the nod to the steel coils used in the hybrid models over the 1.6 lb density base foams used in the ProAdapt and Breeze all-foam models. That said, you'll of course want to balance that consideration against your personal preferences as it relates to the relative comfort and feel of these models. I hope that's helpful.

    • @k_sr20
      @k_sr20 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@goodbed wow.. I just discovered the true specs to the support core layers after doing hours of digging. It is impressive to me that you knew that right off the top of your head. I tested the probreeze foam vs hybrid. I wish I could say the hybrid was the better for me but the probreeze all foam is the best fit of all their mattresses for me; particularly with spine alignment, etc. I was shocked to see that tempur is using 1.6lb foam in all their current support models; unless the specs I saw were mistaken. It seems older models used much higher quality support foam. I appreciate your input on how the comfort layers are the first to break down; I wonder did their designers really tested it out and saw that the 1.6lb was just as durable but with a better feel?? Or if this was done to increase profit margin.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@k_sr20 Sorry you had to do all that digging. I tried to save you the time by providing the densities of those layers in my response above. Re: your question, I don't know whether the lower density in the base layers has more to do with reduced cost or increased airflow, but the latter seems much more plausible than the former. As the flagship brand of their company (and arguably the industry), they are quite proud and protective of the Tempur-Pedic brand. As such, I can't imagine they'd make any product change if they thought it could lead to problems that would jeopardize the strength of this brand. Doing that just to save a couple bucks on foam density certainly wouldn't make sense. By this logic, I would presume that durability would have been looked at closely before making any changes to base foam densities, and that they found no cause for concern on this front. Sorry I don't have any more definitive insight on the results of any durability testing they did, but I hope that's at least somewhat helpful nonetheless.

    I have had a Pro Breeze Medium for 7 weeks and have begun experiencing shoulder and hip pain. Any suggestions?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. Based on the information you've provided, I assume you must spend a good portion of the night on your side. Assuming these pressure points are a relatively new thing for you, and there is no other likely culprit that could be the source of them, then it would not be unreasonable to assume that you aren't getting quite enough pressure relief from this mattress. Nonetheless, I'd give it at least a week or two to make sure this isn't a temporary thing, especially since it wasn't happening for the first 6+ weeks you had the mattress.
      If the issue persists, then depending on how heavy you are, this could either be because it's too soft (and thus you are sinking through the pressure-relieving layers into layers that are less pressure-relieving) or because it's too hard (and thus you are not getting enough cushioning to provide adequate pressure relief).
      If you are not in a position to exchange the mattress for one that better matches your personal requirements, the addition of a topper to the mattress could be helpful. If the mattress is too soft for you, this would provide more comfort material to prevent you from sinking all the way through the upper comfort layers. And if the mattress is too hard for you, a softer topper could help to address this.
      I hope that's helpful.

    I know there are reviewers on Tempurpedic who claim they're still hot on the Breeze models. We've had the original (I guess) Tempurpedic for about 13 years and got used to it. Wouldn't mind the cooling features in summer, if they work. The price is quite high to pay for something that doesn't. Our temperature issue is two-fold. We have Midwestern winters (or used to have) during which the mattress is very cold to lay down on. I love waking up on the classic which I call the "dough". It becomes dough by body heat. Bu I fall asleep quickly, so it's only when I wake up I can consciously enjoy it. We bought the Cloud mattress for a kid in college years ago, which my wife thinks it's probably too soft. So, your review of the Tempur-Pedic LuxeAdapt sounded enticing with the more immediate cushioning while having more firmness than the Cloud. Now I'm looking at the Breeze and you say it's firmer than the Adapt. That might be a bit too firm for me, perhaps. Hence my quandry at the moment. Since I discovered Puffy yesterday, with its 5 zones (which absolutely make sense!) on their new top model, Puffly Royal, will you have a review of that any time soon? THANK YOU! (You're the best.)

      Hi there -- Thanks for your kind words. I'm very glad our site has been helpful for you.
      First, just to clarify, when you said "Now I'm looking at the Breeze and you say it's firmer than the Adapt" -- I assume you're still talking about the LuxeAdapt, which you had mentioned in the previous sentence, and not the Adapt, which are the two entry-level models in the Tempur line-up.
      Re: comparing the Breeze models with the LuxeAdapt models, there are 4 Breeze choices and 2 LuxeAdapt, and not all of the Breeze models are firmer than all of the LuxeAdapt. The order goes like this, from firmest to softest:
      * LuxeAdapt Firm: Very Firm
      * LuxeBreeze Firm: Very Firm
      * ProBreeze Medium Hybrid: Firm
      * ProBreeze Medium: Firm
      * LuxeBreeze Soft: Firm
      * LuxeAdapt Soft: Medium-Soft
      So with the exception of the LuxeAdapt Soft, we'd classify all of the other 5 as being either Firm or Very Firm on our softness spectrum. And to one degree or another, all would have that "dough-y" feel that you like. I can't say for sure how we would have classified the old-school Tempur mattress you have now, but I'm guessing it would likely be considered a Very Firm on our scale, at least when it was new.
      I hope that's helpful.

    We just got the pro breeze medium hybrid king size yesterday. After having a kingsdown pillowtop for 19 years. Over a year ago I had a top placed on it because we were saving money to get a sleep number or Tempur-Pedic. Last night was the worst night I’ve had. I couldn’t even stay sleeping on it. I had to switch to my son’s bed. My back still hurts. The bed is so firm and for some reason my side when laying down feels so much pressure on my head. The other side of the bed is not like that. Also I noticed when it was delivered that the right bottom is not flat on the foundation and it curves upward like it’s not even. The guy even pushed on it. Could it be defective? Regardless I’m in pain bc it’s too hard. We called the store where we purchased and he said that it needs to be broken in. He never said this before purchase. Also he said he would give us a top to place on it in the meantime. So we spent almost 5k to have to put a top piece on the bed. Please help! I’m thinking I want a refund and will go find a sleep number instead. So sick over this.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Denise. Sorry to hear you are not happy with the purchase. One of the reasons we do these videos is to explain the features and characteristics in layman's terms to help prepare people for what they will experience on these mattresses before they buy them -- including the amount of softness to expect (or lack thereof, as the case may be).
      Not quite sure what you mean by the "other side of the bed" - do you mean the foot of the bed? If so, there's no reason you can't rotate the bed 180 degrees. We have observed that mattresses do take some time to relax and break in, and likewise your body does take some time to adjust to a new sleeping surface (sometimes as much as 30 days).
      In any case, assuming you bought this mattress from a store, you're really in the hands of that retailer to find a solution for you, and policies vary from store to store as far as exchanges go. I'm assuming the topper the store gave you is from Tempur-Pedic? We have definitely seen more conformance and softness when a topper is added to some beds, and with other manufacturers, they might even do the same thing - send you a topper and try to make the bed work for you before exchanging it. If it's just not working for you, you'll have to work with your retailer on initiating a refund and get something you'll be happier with.
      I hope that's helpful.

In a flat position, the mattress will perform identically on either one, so the question is just about whether you want the added features and benefits that an adjustable base can provide.

    Bought a pro breeze medium 3 months ago. It is still a little too firm for me. Is there a way to break it in a bit faster ? Thanks

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there -- Apart from just giving it more time, you might try walking on the mattress, which can sometimes help a new mattress break in a bit more quickly. The other thing that would likely soften it a bit is to raise the temperature of your room a few degrees.
      Beyond that, we might suggest adding a mattress topper -- depending on how much extra softness you want, maybe 1.5-2" of memory foam or latex, depending on your preferences. Luckily, it's pretty easy to make a too-firm mattress a little softer by adding a topper. Then down the line, you can remove the topper and see if the mattress has softened up enough for you on its own.
      I hope that's helpful.

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. I would check out the section beginning at 13:07 for more detail here but the short answer is we classify both of these as the same softness level, which is a "Firm" on our softness spectrum. That said, we did note that the hybrid has a tad bit more give on account of the coils, so if anything we would say that one has a tiny bit more softness than the non-hybrid. See 13:58 for a discussion of this exact point.

      Hi Kim -- Thanks for your question. As noted in this video, we classify the Luxe Breeze Soft as a "Firm" on our softness spectrum, whereas in our video about the ProAdapt line, we classify the ProAdapt Soft as a "Medium-Soft" (meaning, slightly softer than Medium). So, to put it differently, the ProAdapt Soft has quite a bit more surface softness than the Luxe Breeze Soft. That said, they do have a similar amount of cushioning depth and conformance, which is why Tempur calls them both a "Soft" in their vernacular. In case you haven't already seen it, here is our equivalent overview of the ProAdapt (and Adapt) lines:

      @@goodbed When you are talking about softness you're referring to the surface material of the mattress? Like the literal softness of the cover? Or how hard/soft the mattress feels when laying on it?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@BillBrown2226 As a general rule, when we describe the softness of a mattress, we are talking about the cushioning, not the fabric.
      Imposter mattress review sites often refer to this as "firmness" but that is only because their only expertise is showing up highly in search engines (and people do search for this term), not in actually helping people choose the right mattress. But anyone that actually has expertise in evaluating mattresses would know that describing the "firmness" of a mattress is *extremely* misleading, since this term causes a great deal of confusion. With mattresses, manufacturers use the term "firm" to describe the "comfort" level of a mattress (a characteristic of the upper cushioning layers). However, many consumers equate the term "firm" with the "support" level of a mattress (a characteristic of the underlying support core) -- and as such, many people equate "firm" with "good". But in reality, good support is about proper spinal alignment, for which more softness can actually be a positive (esp for lighter people and side sleepers). So having a "firmness" score just feeds into this confusion and ends up causing many people to choose the wrong mattress. Of course, these other sites don't really care about that as long as you buy the mattresses that make them the most money...
      Tips on how to spot these imposter review sites can be found here, FYI: www.goodbed.com/pages/untrustworthy-mattress-review-websites/

      No, that's not something I've heard of. Mattress stores won't let you stay overnight, though some might allow you to nap -- just ask them.
      This is why so many mattress brands now offer generous in-home trials with free returns. Most will not let you return a mattress after only one night -- most want you to give it a good chance and sleep on it for at least 30 nights.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@susangunn885 If your only criteria is a mattress that will be firm and supportive in 6 months, I would suggest checking out some of the mattresses that we recommend for heavier people. Mattresses made with rigid low-gauge steel coils and latex will tend to have the best prospects on this front:
      * WinkBed Plus: www.goodbed.com/reviews/winkbed-plus-mattress-review/
      * Helix Nightfall: www.goodbed.com/reviews/helix-nightfall-mattress-review/

      * Avocado: www.goodbed.com/reviews/avocado-green-mattress-review/
      Memory foam mattresses can hold up well too, but will generally be prone to more softening over time than the materials mentioned above. That said, Tempur-Pedic continues to be a standout amongst all memory foam mattresses in terms of its quality and longevity.
      If you're looking for a mattress that matches more of your needs and preferences, beyond just the ability to remain firm, I'd recommend taking the GoodBed Quiz, which you can do here:

      To get a level deeper, if the conflicting info is coming from the manufacturer, this is probably just a difference in terminology. As we explain in our video, Tempur likes to use terms like "Soft" and "Firm" in a manner that is different than most other brands, and different from the way most people think of those terms. We use those terms in a standardized way across all mattresses and draw a distinction between "cushioning depth" / conformance (which is often the main thing that differs across Tempur-Pedic models) vs. "softness."
      If the information is coming from another review site, just be aware that the web is currently flooded with dozens of mattress "review" sites that are nothing more than the digital equivalent of the sleazy mattress salesman -- except worse, because they're disguised as an unbiased expert. @@butosai2539 As I mentioned above, you are going to find a difference in terminology in how Tempur-Pedic talks about softness -- what they call softness is what we call "cushioning depth." Thus, what they think of as softness will not feel like that pillow-y softness that most people think of, especially not when compared to most other mattresses. So, getting back to your question, while the LuxeAdapt Soft and LuxeBreeze Soft may have similar levels of cushioning depth / conformance, we certainly think that to the average person, the LuxeAdapt Soft (which we rate as a Medium-Soft) will have noticeably more surface softness than the LuxeBreeze Soft (which we rate as Firm). Once you've done that, I'd recommend coming back and watching this video again. Just as an example of one of the things we point out in this video, the Breeze models (even the Luxe-Breeze Soft) are all harder than the Adapt Medium, so if the Adapt Medium is on the border of being too hard for you, I'm not sure you'll be happier with one of the Breeze models.
      As explained in this video, of the 4 Breeze models, we classify the Soft as a "Firm" on our softness spectrum, and the other 3 as an "Extra Firm." So if you like the softness level of the Adapt Medium (or if it's on the border of being too hard for you, as you indicated), I would not worry about the Luxe-Breeze Soft being too soft for you -- it will almost certainly feel firmer to you than the Adapt Medium, though it will likely offer a bit more cushioning depth and conformance as well.

      Hi there -- Thanks for your question. If you haven't already, I would recommend watching the section of the video that starts at 7:53, in which we describe the measured differences in the cooling capabilities between the ProBreeze and the LuxeBreeze. Fundamentally, those differences are what you're paying for. In terms of whether those differences are "worth" the extra $700, the answer to that will be an entirely personal calculation based on how important those added benefits of the LuxeBreeze are to you and how big a deal it is for you to spend an extra $700 on your mattress. I'm sure you can appreciate how the answers to both of those questions will vary a lot for different people, which makes it impossible for me to say whether it would be "worth" it for you.

      Hi there -- Thanks for your comment. Naturally, we would never take issue with anyone's conclusion that these mattresses are too expensive, as that's a very personal judgement. Everyone is different in terms of both their budget limitations and the value they place on getting the mattress that best meets their personal needs and preferences. So there are no doubt many people who would agree with you that Tempur-Pedic is simply too expensive.
      That said, with regard to your production cost estimate, I do feel the need to correct any misconception that these mattresses can be made for anywhere near the range you cited. Guessing you were just being funny, but for the benefit of other readers, even the lowest quality mattresses imported from China can barely be produced within that range. For a product like Tempur-Pedic -- which is much higher quality, uses much more raw materials, and is made in the United States (with U.S. wages, worker safety, environmental standards, etc.) -- the actual costs are significantly higher. FWIW, if you're skeptical of this and want more information, Tempur-Pedic is a public company so their K-1's are freely available online. Until they acquired Sealy a few years ago, their financials provided a pretty clean look into the cost of making and distributing the Tempur-branded mattresses.

      GoodBed definitely I was sarcastic. I will remove that comment. I made a mistake buying a mattress and it has made me not trust mattresses. I went shopping for a tempurpedic and ordered a BeautyRest Black Natasha king plush $3800. It has been the worst bed that I have ever slept in. The mattress was great for 5-6 months then the pain started. The mattress has become so soft, not impressions or visual sagging. When sleeping in the bed you sink so much and it’s very strange. I sink so much that the mattress literally is the same height as my body, so body and mattress are flush lol. When I wake up in the morning I can’t even stand up right away, the pain is so bad. I have to move about five feet to go sit in a chair for 15 minutes until my joints can move properly and I can finally walk. As of now I’m sleeping on a cheap cheap $300 couch with no pain. On Tuesday a technician is coming out to look at the mattress, I’m just afraid that I’m going to be stuck because there isn’t 1.5” impressions in the mattress and I’m going to end up permanently hurting myself sleeping on this mattress.
