Idk if anyone mentioned this during stream, but in the end cutscene with Riki and Reyn. Reyn mentions that he needs 14 fish to feed Riki’s family. 11 kids, Riki, his wife and his adopted son, Shulk, from the heart to heart
I think people tend to exaggerate the Melia love triangle for being sad or intrusive. The thing is that it's only really a love triangle in functionality rather than the overall point of the subplot. Melia lacks social experience, and Shulk is the first male Homs she's had any contact with. Melia has some internal conflicts, and it does come up a few times, but it's not made into a major conflict. Broadly, it always seemed to me that Melia's lack of experience leads her to misread how Shulk saw her. He keeps helping her, and she just doesn't know how to interpret it. The purpose was laid out by Soren when he tells Shulk that he can't expect Shulk to remain by Melia's side at all times but would be honored if he could be what Melia needs the most: a friend. Essentially, the storyline in question isn't actually a love triangle. It's a character whose feelings develop out of insecurity and inexperience, and moving past those feelings is the real meaning behind it. Shulk stops being someone she idolizes and becomes a friend, being something he always was and she misunderstood. It's, like, the only love triangle I'll defend since it's both very important to her relationships and it never actually overwhelms her characterization.
Also fun fact! All the symbols in the Monado are real. I believe they are kanji, and the one that appears in the final boss is the kanji for, "God," giving Shulk the power to kill Zanza.
Yes, in the beginning of the game the main Kanji that appears in cutscenes means Machine (reference to Mechon). When the shackles are released in Prison Island and you get the Monado II, the new main Kanji means Person (reference that you can hurt people now). Also, every Monado Art has a Kanji to represent each art (Shield, Speed, etc)
Xenoblade 2 and 3 connected a ton with me personally, the trilogy has a ton of emotional value that will usually reach someone out there, glad you were able to experience the great narrative and pseudo life lessons these games all have. Absolutely phenomenal trilogy of games, wish this series got more traction, I just hope more people who need to know that they're not alone in their struggles can experience it.

I love hearing why you connect to the game; when a game deeply resonates with us it's truly an incredible feeling. Glad I found your playthrough. Thanks for sharing a part of yourself, I think you really expressed something true about what what makes this game special. I don't know what you were experiencing at the time this game came out but I know I have a similar experience of being deeply moved by this game during parts of my life where I badly needed it. I've returned to it several times over the years and I always get something new out of it. This might sound overly silly but thinking about this game has been valuable for me in processing the ongoing violence in the middle east this past year.
Did you not finish the melia monologue with unconscious shulk? It's so much more than just a love triangle and in my opinion some of the most emotional dialogue in the game
I honestly don't get the whole "love triangle" thing, because none of Melia and Fiora's interactions felt like the "love triangle trope" with regards to Shulk. It's a classic case of unrequited love for a heroic figure (especially given Melia's implied isolation growing up); it shares SOME tropes with the Love Triangle, but they're not the same at all. There was no doubt that Shulk and Fiora are the canonical romantic relationship in the story. Yet that doesn't diminish Melia's own feelings, and she never came across as someone who is lesser for the fact she HAS those feelings. A lot of that has to do with the fact that Melia's feelings for Shulk were *never* her sole defining characteristic. So the idea that Melia was "reduced to love triangle garbage" (reference 6:56) just comes completely out of left field. (Which is somewhat ironic, because Fiora's character is FAR more Shulk-centric than Melia's is.)
@@pikespeakaudio8898 Everyone had an inspiring line before they left to face the Bionis. Except for Fiora, she just said Shulk's name. Honestly was never that fond of Fiora since she doesn't seem to have much of a personality beyond just being Shulk's love interest. Almost everything she does in the entire game is for Shulk. And this is why Melia is so popular among the western fans. Her love is unrequited, but there's so much more to her personality than just her love for Shulk.
Yeah this is easily the worst playthrough I have ever seen of this classic and I also now understand why this person has hate for the incredible second game. She completely misreads so damn much which is just plain annoying as hell :-)
Blessed the day when those good gamers started collecting signatures to bring this and 2 other jrpgs, possibly there would never have been a trilogy like now. Now for the xenoblade 2

One thing I wanna mention that I don't think anybody else has - the original ending planned for the game was gonna have a different villain...and it was Reyn. He was going to be jealous of Shulk and the Monado and betray him. I'm extremely glad that got scrapped, considering Reyn's dynamic with everybody is amazing. Him being a traitor would've soiled the game for me.

Nintendo has just released the story trailer for the final Xenoblade Chronicles 3 DLC called "Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Future Redeemed". It is epic and it releases next week. Just wanting to let another Xenoblade fan know.
I don't think the Melia/Fiora/Shulk situation even qualifies as a love triangle, really On another note, have you seen Sonocomics version of Xenoblade Chronicles? It's pretty fun and you should definitely check it out (they have comic series' for all three games, with the third one currently in progress I believe)
Although I agree with the love triangle trope being overused and annoying. I honestly don’t see Melia’s feelings for Shulk as such. Shulk being at the center of the triangle isn’t reciprocating of Melias feelings and I really feel like that adds to Melias tragic character. I mean, she watched her father die in front of her, was forced to slay her brother, almost all of her people were wiped out, and on top of that, the one person she’s been able to connect with on a deeper level doesn’t share her romantic feelings. If anything, I think it’s further evidence of how strong Melia is as a person because despite Shulk not sharing her feelings and her knowing this very well, and despite literally everything thing else shes been through, she’s still there and as supportive as ever: fighting for the things she thinks are right and for the people she cares about.

@@westonmeyer3110 Yep, she definitely played it. VODs not being on Twitch aren't always an indicator of content consumed. And regardless of that, this is still an XB1 video, so naturally her commentary in the video was prior to any info she would have received in sequels.
I do like Sharla but i feel like they missed on things with her character and then you add a lot of her dialogue feels sometimes like a dude trying to think what girls talks about and thinks about. Imo Sharla and Reyn shouldn’t have been a romance. It felt so weird the constant comparison of her old partner to Reyn and her still mourning him. Any emotional moment with her and her old partner undercut because her weird romance with Reyn. Her story should’ve focused on her mourning for her partner and how that affects her.(I'm not against her finding love again while she mourns her last partner I think the way they did it didnt work) Dunban next. I love Dunban but it really annoyed me in the main story that he never talked about Fiora and his feelings towards her. Keep in mind she isnt just his sister he also raised her. Instead he constantly talks about Shulks feelings of Fiora and never his. Then when she comes back we never get anything about it either. Instead is a lot how he ships Shulk and Fiora which i get it, i ship it too. But then man you thought your sister was dead and she just came back plus not even wonder how she is feeling. Sorry im close to my sister so it just bother me so much how Dunban never talked about this things. I also do not like the story of trying to push Reyn and Melia as second choice for Shulk and Sharla. I dont mind the characters having feelings that are one sided but i dont like the game doing the whole “youre the second choice” in the scene between Melia and Fiora and the conversations with Reyn and Sharla. Also Fiora Shulk and Reyn shouldve been a throuple just saying. But Fiora and Shulk are good enough lol. But yeah i absolutely love all this characters and story this are just a few things that always bother me.

She doesn’t have Xenoblade 2 videos on Twitch. I don’t think she has played the game.
She also doesn’t have a Xenoblade 2 icon on her Switch when Xenoblade 1 and Xenoblade 3 icons are right next to each other on her Switch.
@@westonmeyer3110 she has played xenoblade 2

Well that’s good.
@@westonmeyer3110 Yep, she definitely played it. VODs not being on Twitch aren't always an indicator of content consumed. And regardless of that, this is still an XB1 video, so naturally her commentary in the video was prior to any info she would have received in sequels.
xenoblade writers fucking hates melia.
Her story should’ve focused on her mourning for her partner and how that affects her.(I'm not against her finding love again while she mourns her last partner I think the way they did it didnt work)
Dunban next.
Please upload your Xenoblade 2 playtrough. Please
