The 20th literally was the last century for good films, some of the old head directors still try to put out good content. But I feel movie as an art form itss gone, welcome in the CGI, Superhero Flashy Flick. And whats funny is Arnolds not even a good actor, but we all love him because of these movies.
I don't disagree, but to me it's the best sci-fi movie ever, rather than an action movie. Sure, it's great entertainment action wise, but it's also very deep sci-fi wise.
@@jari2018 It was remake , but of the story,. It is the first movie that didn't follow the original story very closely, the second one in 2012 did. The people who made the new Movie had to pay for the rights of the first Total Recall movie, as well as the prequel and sequel(both were written back in the 90's I think though they were never made). The newer movie owners bought the rights to these in a BK preceding so legally Total Recall in 2012 is 100% a remake and based on the 1990 film of the same name, albeit not really too much like the original nor near as good.
Sorry to say but those days are gone. Hollywood will not need people who spend years exercising, lifting, training to fight. Hollywood will no longer need ultra talented musicians playing wind or string instruments, percussion, and they certainly will not need anyone who ACTUALLY knows how to sing. CGI will supply the muscle and the fights, that is, (if any will be allowed in wokey land). There will be no more sex scenes between a real adult woman and real adult man. There will be no more language they don't want the kids in Wokey Woke to hear. The computers will supply the music and auto tune / pitch perfect will supply the ultimate fake human voices singing. Fantasyland has REALLY become FANTASYLAND !
What I like about Terminator, Total Recall and The Sixth Day is that the science fiction element gets to overshadow the action genre element in these films. The End Of Days was interesting but more like Schwarzenegger doing the Da Vinci Code. Not one of his best and you could say the same about Last Action Hero and Raw Deal was also truly that, a flop.
I first watched the film "Total Recall" in London, UK, in 1990. This was the best sci-fiction action of the 1990s. This film was fantastic and adventurous.
You do? It's disgusting looking. And always has corporations taking over government power. Which is actually extremely likely under a capitalist system. So they aren't far off. Just the technology is far off.
As I get older, it's becoming harder and harder to answer the question, what is your favourite movie? Because the more you see, the more creep onto that list. But this one, after more than 30 years, with the number of Movies I've watched since then probably running into the thousands, is still way up there on my favourites list; it has stood the test of time.

Back when Hollywood directors didn't make a cut in the film every half second and put annoying music over every scene. Paul Verhoeven and Jost Vacano are true craftsmen. Great storytelling, told in straightforward way without the usual Hollywood bs

I remember going to see this at the actual movie theatre as a kid. I was too young to understand the concepts of the scenes, but still fascinated & intrigued by the entire movie.
One of Arnie's best films - slick, past-paced, humorous and great special effects - One caveat - why were the protagonists only using standard machine guns when interplanetary travel is so easy? Surely one would expect more advanced hardware?

I don't disagree that these are all great scenes... but this movie is constructed so well and with such glorious detail that nearly every moment could make it onto a greatest hits reel. If ever there was a TH-cam upload of unnecessary/filler sequences from Total Recall, it would be about 40 seconds long.

This film was the original Matrix film before the Matrix film was released in 1999. It's interesting to note that Arnie's Commando character name is John Matrix
Arnold was indeed the biggest star back then. Way bigger star than Tom Cruise and Mel Gibson. The following year, Arnold came out with Terminator 2 Judgment Day and sealed his superstar status to the Exosphere.
Mel and Tom were most likely #2 and #3 male movie stars in 1990. But Arnold was #1 by far, and after T2 came out in 1991, he was in a whole other stratosphere than everybody else.
Arnold is the only celebrity I can recall in my lifetime that came close or equaled Michael Jackson's worldwide fame and international name recognition.
when i was in middle school this movie was such a cozy escape in the cold brutal midwest winters such a classic well done movie for its time the red is bit tad too red tho lol

I love Paul Verhoeven's action movies. Particularly this and RoboCop. The smart, satirical edge, the Hard R violence, the sexuality, that fucking incredible Basil Pouldaris score, sure it sounds alot like his Conan theme, but that score rocked too.
