Being able to paint, is a gift, being able to teach, also! Some guys have one, or the other. She has both! Honestly not many are gifted with this combo set! Congrats woman!
Ah Louise, Louise, you must appreciate yourself as we appreciate you. We see someone whose talent we only wish to emulate. Please be more kind to yourself. You choose your subjects well. You’ve solidified your talent. You know your talents despite the fact you always think you could have done better. I don’t see what you see. I see a wonderful unique talent. Could you let us know if you have any paying patrons because you do certainly deserve them. I purchased a most beautiful painting off a rooster call His Majesty. He had colorful bands around one leg and the other was lifted. It was so charming to me, I had to have it. This was back in 1978. It was double matted and framed in a silver 20” square frame. It was signed. I paid $ 12.00 Canadian dollars which to me was grossly underpriced. I treasure this Rooster. Now I watch you paint and pray you are managing to sell your painting for the money you deserve. I so enjoy your sense of humor. 🇨🇦🙏🏻✝️❤️
It’s so easy to forget, or never realize, how much work goes into the tutorials where so much has been done ahead of time for us to follow along. Thank you for the insight into your process.
I SO ENJOY your videos! You Have have a real gift for teaching ...unhurried, clear, concise! ...watercolor has helped see me through this difficult time...& I have learned SO MUCH from you!! Many thanks for your sharing your talents
Excellent instructions. I like to have a few blank white index cards handy to place around the area that I am working on to keep me from getting distracted on a larger painting like these beautiful tigers. This is one of my favorite of your tutorials so far! Thanks so much for sharing your talents with us!
Today I understood why your painting is so lively .Madam you do lots of research before painting.I will definitely remember various angles through which you study the photograph.
As a fledgling watercolour artist, I have probably watched over a thousand artists' videos - this was one of the most informative and helpful I have ever seen. Thank you for being so generous in sharing your experience. Thank you likewise for including your adorably human "outtakes".
Orientation landscape is my favorite format. For those who aren't familiar with it, it's close to a square but still a rectangle sort of and ends up looking almost like a triangular window. Google it. It could end up being your favorite to. Great video louise. Thanks for putting the reference photo, line drawing and finished "sketch" on Patreon for us.
Hi Louise & thank you. This is an immensely useful guide for those of us who would like to start working on familiar real life subjects from our own environments. While I'm grateful for the free content online, I do find it a little frustrating that there is saturation-level repetition of tutorials for some things I've never seen e.g. Red Cardinals, but so few for the Galah, Cockatoo, Pelican, Skink or Blue-Tongued Lizard on my doorstep. It's clearly time I stopped being lazy & took my own pics. Love your work!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE how you explain your thought process and WHY you do something a specific way. That helps me to understand certain techniques or steps so much better. Thank you so much for sharing with us your amazing creative process. ❤️ 💕 ♥️
Absolutely beautiful! This was my first viewing of one of your tutorials and I sooo enjoyed it. I have been avidly watching many other watercolorists and found you this morning purely by accident. And I am so very happy that I did. You are just a joy to watch. I immediately subscribed!!! By the way, your bloopers are adorable. I know that I have so much that I will learn from you.
Louise! You have such wonderfully high standards with your work and it is so generous of you to share your processes with us - thank you! I hope one day you will find time to do a full tutorial of a tiger - or tigers - for us - that would be something great to look forward to in the coming year!. Keep well and safe ;-)
I painted a tiger with watercolor recently too. I was in doubt about how to balance the wet on wet and wet on dry techniques for the black stripes. Any more advice Louise? th-cam.com/video/-4CV8nXXiYM/w-d-xo.html
This tutorial was exactly what I needed. I have been very anxious to paint from my own photos. It has given me a methodical approach, to plan what I need to do before I even put brush to paper. Thank you so much. Deep breath, I can do this!
Thanks Louise, this was really helpful. I am one of those people you described...I have good basic watercolour skills, can create a really satisfying painting when following on to a tutorial, but when painting my own designs from scratch my results are very inconsistent. Thanks to this video I realised that I am too impatient to get onto the main painting (instead of planning and completing a study first)! When I think of the cost of materials (especially 100% cotton paper) this is bonkers! Will take your advice onboard for my next project...
Thank you so much for this very detailed analysis of how you create a painting. It was extremely helpful. I loved the tigers so much. Absolutely beautiful! 🐯🐯
Hello. I have just found your youtube channel . I am trying to teach myself watercolors, and my work shows that I desperately need lessons. I used to draw a lot of animal portraits, so your work attracts me greatly! I very much appreciate your work. It will take me a while to get the hang of it, but I am very ready to spend the time learning and practicing. I will be watching all of your videos, and going to your webpage....you are such an inspiration! Thank you so much!
Appreciate this video; as well as many others I have taken the time to watch. I appreciate the quality of instruction you offer. Very clear, very easy to follow. I am also resonating with your desire to get a bit more expressive as you call it. for myself I refer to it as getting a little looser. I can get Lost in the photo realistic rendering. I appreciate the control of outcome i am gaining through your very detailed technical instruction. Now you are assisting me finding courage to venture into the realm of paintings my own paintings rather than meticulously duplicating tutorials; A topic you touched on in this specific presentation. Much gratitude.
So grateful for your tips. Really crack me up with your bloopers Louise. Wow just noticed your a Coffs girl. I’m in the Northern Rivers so would love to know if you do lessons face to face anytime.
Thank you again for another helpful tutorial. I need to practice patience. Love your retakes at the end. Also a lesson to persevere and perfect your work! 💚
Hi again Louise - we have a lovely series running on tv at the moment - called 'Tigers in the House' and set in an Australian zoo where they are working on a conservation programme to save Sumatran tigers from extinction - two brothers were born and their carer - a lovely guy is called Giles (Clark I think) the 2 tigers are called Spot and Stripe - I wondered if they could be the ones you photographed here? I generally don't like to see animals in captivity but when I watched this guy helping the mother when she gave birth - the trust and obvious love she had for him was very moving and made me realise how lucky the tigers are to be in such amazing care - and they have a lot of safe space to play in, I am sure you know all about it, let's hope that his programme works.
Beautiful work Louise. As usual you are very generous with your time and the detail that you go into to explain each step. I learn so much from your tutorials and appreciate your tie and effort. Thank you Louise.
Hi Louise. Thank you for these tips. The processes and decisions you described are extremely helpful. Exactly what I need to practice 😃. So many photos are inspiring but where to start is a huge challenge!
Very helpful, as usual! Thanks especially for the tip about how to transfer your initial drawing onto your watercolor paper. I also appreciate the reminder about putting the most detail/darkest colors at the focal point.
I love your tutorials and this one is so helpful and informative as I have been drawing and painting for several years and am keen to paint from my own photos. Thank you so much! xx
This has been so enlightening. I can see I need a lot of prep work/thinking before seeting brush to paper. I now understand the value of the study. Thank you.
Wonderful, Louise, thank you so much for sharing your process. So happy to have subscribed on Patreon. Am in the middle of the white cow painting and loving it!
How ? My brain 🧠 can’t comprehend...I see what you do, I hear the instructions you give, but I can’t draw a stick figure, let alone tigers 🐅...Wow! Great video! Thank you 🙏, Louise!
Beautiful work.Louise! you are sooo talented. I love these tiger cubs and will have a go. but the video doesnt quite show completely the top tiger"s head. Is it on another video pls?
Thank you - helpful information as usual. Interesting to hear you rub graphite all over the back of your drawing to transfer to watercolor paper. I'm not sure, but there may be a "tracing" paper that would work, but perhaps it produces lines too dark. The eyes of any living thing are so crucial. So I understand why you want to get them done early in the painting. Can't wait to see your finished "real" painting of the tigers.
Thanks Mary. You can buy saral paper and transfer paper but I've been using the graphite method lately because it's less dirty. I find saral paper leaves lots of marks on the paper. I want to invest in a projector. I think that will make the task easier and quicker.
Excellent demonstration of the thought process we are going through before starting a painting. And you convinced me to do more studies first before attacking the important work :-)) Greetings from Germany -have a great weekend, Thomas
Thank you Louise. This was very helpful. I always wondered what the process really was and now, because of you, I have a pretty good idea. Practice, practice, practice.
This was so berry helpful, Louise! Thank you for sharing the steps of your process and the tips you’ve used to find your “groove.” I often find myself searching for hours for great photos, spending hours mixing paint colors & trying them with different techniques, and painting several thumbnail practice pieces before I’m ready to start a “final” piece. I’ve been thinking that perhaps I overthink it and should “get to it” more quickly... but now I realize those practices are not strange at all and are useful to others.
Absolutely beautiful. I love your method of thought. Something I need to do more often and in-depth before I begin my art. You are such an inspiration 💕
Louise I love your work & your presentation style. I'm new to water colour & you make it so easy to follow & understand. I've learnt so much - thank you. PS. Love your outtakes at the end! 😊
This is a very informative and excellent video - as all of yours that I've seen have been. You are an amazing teacher and artist! This is very helpful - thanks so much. (Patty in Arizona)
Thank you so much for sharing your thought process, and demonstration! I always look forward to your tutorials, they are very helpful! Your tigers are wonderful!
thank you Louise! This has been interesting to watch! I loved the bloopers too, makes you so genuine :) I was surprised you paint the eyes first! I love to do it in the end like you said it's where everything comes to life and I love to see this all at once... But now you mention it, indeed it's often the focal point and you don't want to mess it up. So yes best to do it when you're not tired, I'll change this habit!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you Sarah. I often try to do those areas of the painting that I think will be the most difficult. I do this mainly because I can breathe a sigh of relief and enjoy the rest of the painting.
Beautiful! thanks for sharing your process, very informative. you mentioned using "white ink" instead of gouache, do you mind sharing which specific ink you use that works well on top of watercolor? thank you!
This is really wonderful. I find your tutorials very helpful. Soon I will commit to being one of your students. On this tutorial, however, my issue is the hair or the black lines appearing on the white area. I understand, you did wet on wet but I see the nice hair effect flowing on the white area is remarkable. Did you just create a line to make that effect or it’s part of the wet on wet technique? Beautiful study. Please show us your final painting of the tigers. Thanks
I love that you include your mistakes at the end
I just love your water color technique
Today I understood why your painting is so lively .Madam you do lots of research before painting.I will definitely remember various angles through which you study the photograph.
Such a precious lesson!!! Thank you for sharing!! I love your channel!!!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
The tigers turned out looking gorgeous. I love the dry-brush effect at the bottom of the rock and the warm color at the top of the painting.
Mrs. De Masi, thank you for all that you share through out the year. May you and your family have a Merry Christmas!
You are a joy. Thank you!
I love your tutorials, very well done.
You are so amazing. Soft, sweet and serious. That's why I LOVE the bloopers you include at the end.
I think I'd love a day with you some day. ❤️

Stunning! And you are right: I am terrified of painting my own photographs...

No one could explain better than you
Excellent demonstration of the thought process we are going through before starting a painting.
And you convinced me to do more studies first before attacking the important work :-))
Greetings from Germany -have a great weekend, Thomas
Wonderful! Thank you Thomas.
Me too! I'm so lazy about doing the studies, I just want to jump in. Going to try to show down a bit.
Absolutely wonderful! I love the picture you chose , you are such a talented artis xx
Thank you so much 😀 💕.
Thank you Louise. This was very helpful. I always wondered what the process really was and now, because of you, I have a pretty good idea. Practice, practice, practice.
So beautiful!!! I hope you will share the final piece with us.
This was so berry helpful, Louise! Louise I love your work & your presentation style. I'm new to water colour & you make it so easy to follow & understand. I've learnt so much - thank you.
PS. Love your outtakes at the end! 😊
Great video of your process, and I especially like the way you explain how you make your choices. Very helpful indeed!
This is a very informative and excellent video - as all of yours that I've seen have been. You are an amazing teacher and artist! This is very helpful - thanks so much. (Patty in Arizona)

Louise, this course is awsome^_^
Beautiful! thanks for sharing your process, very informative. you mentioned using "white ink" instead of gouache, do you mind sharing which specific ink you use that works well on top of watercolor? thank you!
Thank you. I live in BC Canada
Wait... That was just a study?? That would be finished product for me after all that work lol.. You're amazing, Louise!! 💖
Thanks Aurora. It needs to be wider so I can extend that tiger's body on the right.
@@LouiseDeMasi really? I think that would take away from the Centerpoint of the composition imo... I think it looks perfect! 💖
Thank you so very much. You’re incredible
Creating fur has always been my issue. You are very good in watercolor. I watched you in Skillshare and follow you in You Tube.
Thankyou so much for your inspiration and tuition. I only started painting just before the covid 19 and this was something I really struggled with. I started watching a lot of watercolour videos online during our lockdown and have picked up heaps of techniques from a number of artists who all had different styles but kept coming back to yours because of the instruction content. It's like I am in the room with you. Will definitely consider one or two of your online courses - is there any particular one I should start with? Once again thankyou from an excited beginner in NZ.
Thank you for this tutorial, it was very helpful. This painting is stunning.
Fabulous tutorial I certainly hope a tiger or lion turns up on Patreon 🐅🐅🐅
thank you for this Louise. I have been doing tutorial for a few years now. I too would like to paint photos I have taken , but often I'm am a loss as to how to proceed. After watching this video I will give it another go. . I will also paint these beautiful tigers.
thanks so much 💕
Gracias Louise, precioso como siempre. Eres maravillosa !!!!
