  • We are up along the Battenkill Railroad in Greenwich, NY, where we see ALCO RS1 3501, owned by Raven Rail for Saratoga, Corinth, & Hudson, as it works the Cargill mill. After drilling a bunch of cars, 3501 gets shut down and ALCO RS36 5012 gets fired up. 5012 brings a tank car and four covered hoppers to CaroVail at Salem Junction, where the train then gets re-blocked for interchange down at Eagle Bridge. We see the 5012 at Route 22 in Salem Junction, and then again down at the Route 22 crossing in Cambridge. We then see the engine as it runs lite around the train in Eagle Bridge. 3051 was built in 1951 for DuPont as their 107, and was originally used with the Department of Energy, before being sent to the International Intermodal Terminal in Huntsville, AL, before being bought by Raven Rail for the SC&H. 5012 was built in 1962 for the Atlantic & Danville and changed hands a number of times before landing on the Battenkill roster. Enjoy the sounds of the ALCO 539T of the 3501 and the ALCO 251B of the 5012. If you have any questions about the video, feel free to message me. Comments are welcome. The videos were taken on August 22nd, 2024.

I love the video. I'm 56 when I was 8. I lived 2 houses away from a spur that delivered furniture to a local where house. They were my morning alarm clock. My buddy and I would run out and wave and sometimes the crew would throw us a candy bar or a pack of gum. Great memories.

    Are they using 408 ?
I ran her on the Ontario Midland in Sodus from 1995-2011.
Is OMID 36 there also ?

408 and 36 (SNEX renumbered 361) are both on the Battenkill. Last i knew both went down in 2019 with a number of mechanical issue's. Neither have entered service yet as I'm guessing they still need work but both should be eventually restored. As for OMID they now have two RS18u's.

I had no idea that there was still any rail action near Greenwich. Need to take a ride over from Greenfield to take a look. Oh yeah, I did live in Schenectady when they were built and may actually have seen them roll out across Nott Street way back then.

There is no set schedule, as it depends on the needs of the two mills, as well as how often interchange occurs with the B&E.

539 and 244 offer the best hearth beat rythmn songs among builder contrarily to big washing machine of today.
539 wasn´t so powerful but a strong reliable machine. Thanks to Irish Mc Intosh & Seymour.
244 was ill fated, thanks to war board that limited research and improvments by Alco. Many customers never came back to try the 251.
    Miss them so much.
    Thanks for that opéra.
