- We were given a rare opportunity to pick a cask from Benromach! We chose a 10 Year Old Cask-Strength First-Fill Oloroso. 2013 Cask No. 306. 61.4% abv. Huge thanks to James, Richard, everyone at Authentic, and Benromach! PLUS we also try two other Benromach single casks, including one picked from the Caledonian Whisky Bar.

Cracked The Caledonian and Whisky Rant bottles last night. On first pour the WR bottle seems a little sweeter and the Caledonian a little nuttier, but both open up into those typical meaty/savoury notes that this distillery is famous for. On the Caledonian finish I'm picking up more mint and salty black liquorice and on the WR I picked up a distinct Nutella note in the finish. Both bottles start and end differently, but the middle (if that makes sense) are very familiar to any cask strength Benromaniac.
I can tell right away both bottles are going to open up big time (as the strath did) , and I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses. I did a small pour of The Strath bottling and it seems quite leathery in comparison to the other two, which is something I hadn't picked up before (not a bad thing imo), and the slight sulfur note has disappeared. I detect zero sulfur in casks 305 and 306.

Seems like the Benromach single casks are abundant for you guys up North. Wish I could find more down here in the US. Have only every found one (an 11yr ex-bourbon) which was in the older style labeling. I've also found a peat smoke and a cask strength , both in the older labeling. So it seems like there is a lot less Benromach imported to the states...the only bottles with the new labeling that I've seen are the 10, 15, 21, and 40.
I missed out on the Shelter Point pick,so I made sure to get one of these on order right away!
Looking forward to trying it, I've got fath in both your palates.
The price is really fair, too. Their 18yr and up single casks are getting a little too pricey for me,so I'm glad you picked this younger cask.
