Fantake, I’m really curious about why you think production picked Matt instead of any of the other men of color within the franchise.
@@ameliashaw428 Something behind the scenes seemed to push them off of Mike. No idea why as I thought he'd be a great lead. I'm sure they were also priming Matt to be a potential lead when they cast him for Clare's season. But I really wish they would have given Mike a chance.
@@ameliashaw428 I personally think it is because they needed a black bachelor to fight off the lack of diversity claims but they didn't want another lead that was "too black", "woke police", like Rachel Lindsay. On top of that even though Matt is black he did not talk a lot about racism/ oppression in his social media, he grew up with his white mother, he is/was a registered Republican, a large majority of his friends and ex-girlfriends are white so he was at least on paper the perfect white-washed black man for the Bachelor franchise.
That was certainly an interesting season! Am very glad it is over! What is clear is how unsuitable Matt was for this. If you were a producer, who would you have put in Matt’s place?

Poor Matt. I don’t think he was ever ready for this role. Him and his family have some deep issues that they definitely have to solve. This season was drainnnnniiiiinnggggggggg.
So glad to see a compassionate comment. Clearly we witnessed some family and personal traumas at play. And we can't fault Matt for that getting dragged out in this open forum. Many of us are dealing with same thing but we get to do that in private. with some therapy MJ will be ready for marriage eventually.
Really? Dude got paid the big bucks to appear on a marriage show only to realize he doesn't want to be engaged? If he was never ready, the only motivation for him to do this show is fame. I understand that, but I'd respect him more if he just said the quiet part out loud. I don't think anyone believes he was in love or ready for marriage.
@@Marvelerence Sometimes it's hard for us to realize if we're truly ready for something unless it's staring us in the face. People are allowed to realize that they're not ready for something that they thought they were, and I'm sure Matt still does want to get married, just not right now. It takes a confident person to resist the pressure of the show and do their own thing knowing what's right for them

I agree. I think it's honestly kind of perverse how they push engagements on this show. A guy should propose only if he is ready, and yet too often we have people like Peter doing what he thinks he's supposed to do and people end up getting hurt in the process. The show is not blameless in all this. I do give Matt credit for not caving in to the pressure and standing by the fact that he wasn't ready.

I feel like Matt has some deep rooted family trama, and he can't fully commit to a relationship without the fear of what happend to his father and mother happening to him. They all need to go to a family therapist including his dad, and settle there issues.
Matt's not a bad person. It's just sad because he is emotionally stunted and needs major therapy. He blind sighted so many women and after all that Michelle gave to him, he wouldn't even give her 2 minutes of his time. His apology was "I'm sorry you felt that way and had to go through that", NOT "im sorry I put you through that". No accountability. He never thought about marriage seriously till the last day, and he barely said two words to Rachael, who he previously said would be the mother of his children, broke up with over a phone call. Disappointing.

I lost a lot of respect for Matt during After the Final Rose... finding out how he treated Michelle plus some other stuff that they cut out of the episode (Dave Neal has some videos on it) just... heh.

The way he was rubbing his mom's leg was super creepy.....although he was constantly touching women so much this season, and it was really creepy. I think that is in-part why Serena P left. There were a couple times that she looked really uncomfortable by all of his touching.
Matt would have been better off as a bachelorette contestant and then paradise. He could have loosened up and showed his personality more. He was never emotionally ready to be a lead and find love.
I agree, and it was so hard to want to watch because we knew NOTHING about it. I 100% prefer them using pst contestants as the lead since it’s easier to connect with them and their journey

I was thoroughly shocked that he sent home both Michelle and Bri. Like I kind of figured he was going to pick Rachael, but it was still surprising because both Michelle and Bri seemed so genuine.
Michelle is genuine, mature and able to handle a long term relationship and marriage. Matt isn't there, so he opted for the less mature woman.

Honestly! From the very beginning I noticed his phrasing seemed extremely scripted and rehearsed. It felt like he binged all the seasons and came up with a list of things to say to get him through.

It was creepy. To be fair, he was constantly touching the girls like that all season and it was creepy then too. I think that may have been one of the reasons Serena P left. I remember she looked annoyed a couple times with all his touching.
This season deserves an F grade no question!

Production F (more overly produced season I’ve watched... plus they even cut out tayshia)
Drama F (boring, over done, and just plain stupid)
Cast D (only because I like Like 3 of them! Plus they have to have a team that does deep dives into people social media’s so we don’t have “problematic people” win!
Matt over all was terrible too! He was not ready for a real relationship the bachelor should never be someone who has never been in a serious relationship ever again!

I've never cried just from a long moment of silence on this show before, but it was so clear Matt didn't even know where to begin in telling Rachael the scope of his hurt. And it's not a condemnation of who she was three years ago--it's that here and now, though I fully appreciate her apology, she still doesn't understand *why* he was so hurt. You could see that the connection had just snapped on his end. It proved his mom right--love isn't everything, not when there's a fundamental disconnect in empathy, trust, and experience.
I think we need to sit with this ending for a while, because as exhausting as the whole season was, the finale is an amazing case study in how privilege frequently causes failures in empathy. I think she was open and trying, but Matt's right--she's at the beginning of her work and it doesn't happen that fast. I feel so bad for the pain they're both in, but it feels like such an important thing for this show to deal with, finally.

Well said. It’s very disheartening to see how many people don’t get it either. Bashing Matt for dealing with his feelings in real-time. It’s so easy for someone to say something isn’t offensive when it’s not happening to them. I don’t think either of them deserve so much hate, they just need to work on themselves
I really like your comment because I was really rooting for both of them to make it through this, and have their happy ending. Rachel was super giddy about Matt from the start. You could tell she loved him. Even when Matt couldn't say those final words to her, Rachel still held his hand and shoulder in a way that says: I'm here even if what you're about to say is hard. You could see Matt choking on his own pain, and I could see Rachel was trying to be present for him despite their breakup like a good person does. :'( I'm so sad for her. She has the sunniest smile and good intentions. But it goes to show us that heartbreak can be from a place despite checking all the boxes. Timing, education, emotions, honesty, and far more all play a part. It's almost like nothing can prepare you for forever.
What is it with the Bachelor? Why can't they pick someone they even want to end up with, much less someone that is compatible? Arie is the last bachelor to actually pick someone before the end of the season that he wanted to be with. Nick before that and it seemed like a nightmare the whole time for both of them. So many of the women get engaged and some get married. The love stories are so much more believable. Is Sean Lowe the only one to actually marry his pick? I don't get it. Can men just not handle the pressure of this? Are they not choosing guys who want to get married? Are they just too overwhelmed by all the choice of beautiful women and can't get their heads on straight? They've got to rethink this. I know we do love the drama but when it ends like this, with no semblance of a real connection, we feel like our time was wasted.
They have too many choices. Didn’t Peter date three of his season’s contestants? In real life these guys wouldn’t have 20+ women fighting over them , like how men can meet so many women online. In real life situations, probably only a few of the women on most of the bachelors’ seasons would even be interested in them
Sean is the only one to stay with his original final pick. Jason m. and Arie l. are still married and have kids with their 2nd pick so I still consider them successes....true things got messy but they were able to man up & admit they made a mistake & go after the ones they wanted.

Not ready...I want a season with GROWN adults ready for marriage and kids within 2 yr. With women between 30-45.
I believe the end goal should just be having the opportunity to go out with one another. I'm not saying you can't marry at a young age, but most of the people on the show tend to be in their twenties. Marriage is a very huge commitment so if they do want to roll with that, then I agree that they should cast older people.

Sounds like his mom kept it as a ever playing role in their family so it seems fresh to him even though it was something he did to her many many many years ago. Women need to stop doing this type of thing in front of their children and creating the diatribe in their heads. We didn’t get to hear all of that conversation, but it sounded a little bit like the dad wanted to explain that the mother kept him away after the cheating incident. It was soooo awkward so I thought maybe there was another definition of the word “embrace” so I looked it up and the other definition means to “accept” or “support” so maybe he meant it in that way? I hope. Otherwise that was so so awkward.

The only time Matt seemed really, truly animated this whole season was when Tyler visited him.
Matt said himself “I saw how this worked out for Tyler” so of course he’s gonna grab that brass ring alongside his BFF and get money, fame and connections. He got to do a ton of fun stuff on the show, and leave a single man or with a hot girlfriend...it was all his choice. The dates were set up not to get to know to know the women, but to make the women look stupid or desperate or just showed crappy drama the producers fed into. I knew from the start this was how it would end. Now he’s moved into a very expensive apartment with Tyler C in NYC where they can bro and ho it out until their hearts content. This show needs to cast MEN with relationship experience! What a waste of a season. And I’m putting this solely on the producers. Matt’s like a child, putting himself and others at risk. Not understanding his physical soothing actions as a kid aren’t right appropriate as an adult (rubbing his moms thigh). Omg if I thought I was in love with someone and saw that 😳

From the last couple of series ‘I’m not ready’ there seems to a running theme, I feel sorry for Matt that he was thrown into this series, the time span to form a relationship during filming is highly unlikely and is more damaging to contestants. The show runners need to evaluate the show, before they lose viewers.
There is no upside for most men with marriage in western societies.
Maybe Matt will come back and compete for Michelle’s heart for “the dramatic season ever.” 🤷♀️

Matt was never ready. So many people go on the show and question their choices at the end of the season. Omg an engagement? I'm not ready! Why do they sign up then? Matt has a lot of issues to work through before entering another real relationship. Commitment issues seem to be his biggest flaw.
I feel bad for Matt, I think he went into this thinking he was ready and that this would be the answer. Unfortunately it’s pretty obvious he has some unresolved trauma that he wasn’t aware of or ready to face. I hope that this is a wake up call for him to go to therapy to find the answers he needs. I also think that’s why he called things off with Rachel, it’s pretty obvious based on his conversations with his mom and his dad, that feeling solid in the foundation of the relationship is the most important thing to him, so it’s understandable that the new information about Rachel disintegrated the foundation he thought he was establishing.

He was never after marriage at all. Even the dates weren’t romantic. We saw his immaturity, and so many of us knew from the start there’d be no engagement. It’s the shows fault by casting boys instead of men. We want men with relationship experience. This has nothing to do with divorced parents or his dad. This isn’t the 1950’s...I know a ton of happily married or living together couples with not the best examples growing up and I’m 50. The generations under me have had it much easier too as therapy has been a regular thing and old stereotypes have been broken. Matt came on the show for adventure and fame, and he got everything he wanted, including living the single life with Tyler C.

🇨🇦 I was all for Matt picking Michele. She's a beautiful, strong, independent woman and she loved him. Then as I started watching more, Matt has alot of issues and would have brought Michele too many of his problems, so I'm so grateful she got away! Michele needs a man to her equal and Matt certainly isn't that. I'm so looking forward to Michele being bachelorette this fall.
