You're looking at it from the wrong direction. In the original fairytale, the prince comes to a "dead" castle 100 years later. He never meets the evil fairy and there is no fight whatsoever. Just because Disney decided to add a fight for Drama and entertainment (and dont get me wrong, Disney's Prince Philip fight is one of my favorite scenes in all of film), doesnt mean that it's to be expected here.
Tchaikovsky began composing in 1888 - orchestrating in May, 1889 - first performance in St. Petersburg on January 8, 1890. His second ballet score - the first was Swan Lake - Sleeping Beauty score/ballet - with intermissions - is nearly 3 hours…! The score read is 160 minutes in length. Tchaikovsky died in 1893 - never knowing his ballet has become his most popular work - with the Nutcracker…!
It is not unusual for Carabosse (the name of the evil fairy in the ballet) to be played by a man. There are some versions - like the Royal ballet - where she's played by a woman (made up to look young) and sometimes versions where the dancer is completely made up to look very old. There are tons of different interpretations of her, you should definitely check some out.

I am very impressed with the entire production, especially the costuming. Very appropriate for the times being depicted. My only surprise was a male used to depicted the evil fairy. He did a magnificent job.
This was a good production, and great costumes. I loved seeing a new(version to me) of this classic ballet, and I love seeing elements of the standard version.
Now, I want to see more male characters take on “female” roles! That was amazing! And who cares what gender a character is as long as they play it as triumphant as this was played! Well done and BRAVO!
Can anyone point (haha) me to the version Marcia Haydee set that uses the Petipa choreography? Iana is stunning, as always, but the choreography and deconstructed sets all seem very flat to me. There are some things Petipa set like the White Swan and the Rose Adagio that just...no, don't mess with them. And I realize I'm in the minority here...
@@stellamarishansen3317 Have you seen her 2nd act variation? Choreography is very non-Petipa, almost minimalistic but she still makes it look impressive because she's such a great dancer.
@@minissa2009 Si lo he visto, me pareció excelente.
(gracias, Google Translate!). The scenery seems very flat, and I remember the White Cat (and maybe Puss in Boots) being costumed with bike shorts. So, not just the choreography. Everything seemed very 2-dimensional. Have you seen the reconstruction of Petipa's original choreography done for I think Bolshoi (might have been Mariinsky, Obravstova was Aurora). There must be 500 people in the cast (small exagerration) but it was fascinating to see how Petipa used the music and moved people around the stage.
@@minissa2009 Hola si he visto esa.
A wonderful ballet with gorgeous costumes, BUT, why the colors washed out in BLUE light? Give the audience some credit for having some imagination so we can fully enjoy the artistry in this staging of a favorite ballet.

Magique et somptueux !
So lovely.
This is an extraordinary production! Wonderful choreography and costumes. The dancers are also beautiful. Bravo!!
Who is the choreographer?
Natcho duato
This was a good production, and great costumes. I loved seeing a new(version to me) of this classic ballet, and I love seeing elements of the standard version.
Now, I want to see more male characters take on “female” roles! That was amazing! And who cares what gender a character is as long as they play it as triumphant as this was played! Well done and BRAVO!
Carabosse has been interpreted by men before. In about 1987 by none other than Richard Cragun!

Beautiful ❤️❤️❤️🥰

Tchaikovsky The Sleeping Beauty - composition (score) is his longest…! Of all of his musical compositions.
I've read that he composed a bunch more music for the 2nd act: countesses, baroness Ed, and 2 or 3 other coterie of courtiers had variations!
'produktion von ' Zauberflotte ' auch sehr schon , wunderbar...

Very beautiful love watching this!! 💟💟
Wonderful 💖🇨🇦👍
A wonderful ballet with gorgeous costumes, BUT, why the colors washed out in BLUE light? Give the audience some credit for having some imagination so we can fully enjoy the artistry in this staging of a favorite ballet.
thanks a lot for sharing! May I ask when is this performance?
