      It is not unusual for Carabosse (the name of the evil fairy in the ballet) to be played by a man.
      There are some versions - like the Royal ballet - where she's played by a woman (made up to look young) and sometimes versions where the dancer is completely made up to look very old. There are tons of different interpretations of her, you should definitely check some out.

    Fascinating study in the variety of the various ballerina costumed-skirt length styles. (1) full length to floor covering foot. (2) mid knee “romantic skirt”. (3) soloist “pancake tutu” - supported-hoop frame by wire at waist bodice. (4) the American Tutu - which was created by the Russian courtier Barbara Karinska for Balanchine (choreographer-New York City Lincoln Center Ballet) - skirt without wire, skirt spread by various-layered sheer fabrics at the waist-bodice.

    Tchaikovsky began composing in 1888 - orchestrating in May, 1889 - first performance in St. Petersburg on January 8, 1890. His second ballet score - the first was Swan Lake - Sleeping Beauty score/ballet - with intermissions - is nearly 3 hours…!
    The score read is 160 minutes in length. Tchaikovsky died in 1893 - never knowing his ballet has become his most popular work - with the Nutcracker…!

    As someone who was introduced to the music through the Disney animated version, i must say this is splendid! Although I did expect a more exciting fight between the Prince and Carabosse. On the level of the Nutcracker and the Mouse King. Oh well. I'm just here for the sake of watching fine culture.

    • @LeaF-vo2mx
      @LeaF-vo2mx หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're looking at it from the wrong direction. In the original fairytale, the prince comes to a "dead" castle 100 years later. He never meets the evil fairy and there is no fight whatsoever. Just because Disney decided to add a fight for Drama and entertainment (and dont get me wrong, Disney's Prince Philip fight is one of my favorite scenes in all of film), doesnt mean that it's to be expected here.

      Она и создана для Михайловского, а в Берлин перенесена позже.

      Это ужасно,никакого отношения к Спящей красавице это не имеет,читайте сказку. Это современный костюмированный бал в ночном кабарэ.Чайковский в гробу перевернулся.

    Can anyone point (haha) me to the version Marcia Haydee set that uses the Petipa choreography? Iana is stunning, as always, but the choreography and deconstructed sets all seem very flat to me. There are some things Petipa set like the White Swan and the Rose Adagio that just...no, don't mess with them. And I realize I'm in the minority here...

      No soy una especialista pero prefiero definitivamente la coreografía de Petipa. Los trajes pueden variar y la escenografía tbien pero para mi esta versión tan despojada perdió el clima de cuento de hadas q hace a la versión tradicional memorable. Salenko como de costumbre se adueña de su personaje y el resto del cuerpo de baile la complementa çon corrección y talento.

    • @minissa2009
      @minissa2009 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@stellamarishansen3317 Have you seen her 2nd act variation? Choreography is very non-Petipa, almost minimalistic but she still makes it look impressive because she's such a great dancer.

      @@minissa2009 Si lo he visto, me pareció excelente. Salenko y el cuerpo de baile hacen de cada rol una creación. Pero me cuesta aceptar la nueva coreografía después de haber visto tantas veces el original. Me hace falta como te dije .el entorno de cuento de hadas q no se ve en esta versión. Es como q extraño esta obra maestra creada x Petipa. Son dos cosas distintas pero definitivamente prefiero la coreografía original.

    • @minissa2009

      @@stellamarishansen3317 totalmente de acuerdo!! (gracias, Google Translate!). The scenery seems very flat, and I remember the White Cat (and maybe Puss in Boots) being costumed with bike shorts. So, not just the choreography. Everything seemed very 2-dimensional. Have you seen the reconstruction of Petipa's original choreography done for I think Bolshoi (might have been Mariinsky, Obravstova was Aurora). There must be 500 people in the cast (small exagerration) but it was fascinating to see how Petipa used the music and moved people around the stage.

      @@minissa2009 Hola si he visto esa.
      Versión con Obratsova, una bailarina q me deslumbra pero personalmente prefiero en ese rol a Olesya Novikova, su seguridad, control, versatilidad y su manera de desarrollar ese rol me parecen extraordinarias. La entrada de Aurora en el 2do acto increíble. De todas formas todas las bailarinas de esa generación Obratsova, Osipova, Somova, y otras como Tereshkina a la q personalmente amo x su fuerza, increíble control (Nikiya en Bayadera) y su capacidad de adaptarte a distintos roles totalmente diferentes entre si, van a ser difícilmente superables!!!

    A wonderful ballet with gorgeous costumes, BUT, why the colors washed out in BLUE light? Give the audience some credit for having some imagination so we can fully enjoy the artistry in this staging of a favorite ballet.
