My God!!!! Rudi goes totally nuts here! Maybe that's how Nijinsky did it. It sure doesn't look like anybody else's version. Thank you for this unexpected treat!
Thank you for watching and for taking the time to write. I was mad for his port de bras in this video, especially the switching of his hands in 5th en haux while turning. I must admit trying it and the wobbles it created were hilarious. To watch him repeat it several times flawlessly only adds more points in his legendary status.
I had never seen a Ballerin like Rudolph Nureyev. I'm Ballerina from I was a child. He inspired perfect technical, musicality, performance and of course talent. I love him.❤️🌹
Old style port de bras. Recalls the motivation that Balanchine taught. That arms brought en haute would be like removing a sweater. Nureyev in all his idiomatic glory. No one like him.❤ thanks for the treats.
Thank you for that treat I had never seen before. We are having a celebration of his choreography of Swan Lake in Vienna in 1948 with Margot Fontaine, for the holidays on French TV at the moment. He’s the dancer of the century, no discussion about it. There’s a documentary you can see on YT. Happy New Year Pam and good health wishes. 🎉❤
This is indeed a treat and a great find, Pam. I was completely unfamiliar with this dance. Thanks for posting it. Also with Ms Jackson. I looked up her biography and she had a fine career. I think it would be intimidating to dance with Nureyev.
Thank YOU David, and omgosh i had the same thought about her... i can only imagine how she must have felt to be so honored. Ecstasy tinged with absolute terror I would think.
@@PamBoehmeSimon She did perform well, playing her character confidently in my ill-experienced judgement. Getting way out of my critical experience/expertise was her pointe work. It portrayed her character's light, sleepy, dreamy roll very well. She seemed to just float along with Nureyev.
Grazie !... 😅
This is fabulous treat! I have never seen this. Nureyev gives off such energy and a magical aura that I was transfixed. Denise Jackson gives a sweetly classical performance. (I have some gripes about the costumes: the lady is supposed to take off her bonnet; Nureyev appears to wear a dreadfully ill-fitting and mud-coloured wig rather than the rose petal tight-fitting cap that is usual). Thank you for bringing this to us.
Thank you what a treat to see this! Spectre is a big favourite for me and Nureyev is impeccable, as always! The Australian Ballet are featuring a production on Nijinsky this year and can't wait to see it! ❤
Wonderful to see this. i have watched a lot of 'Spectres' on YT. If you liked this you will probably appreciate also Manuel Legris with Claude de Vulpian in the Paris Opera version with the same choreography. Legris arms are splendid too and his presence is quite 'horticultural' and rather non human.....
What was date...was this with Royal? Earlier? Later? I saw him in his later years. He was still excellent even tho past his prime. I thought he looked pretty young here, but somone comm ented on his age.
Being a ballet dancer for over 20 years back in the days and Margot Fonteyn was my role model. I noticed current ballet dancer are incredibly better in technique BUT the emotional dancing is dead....boring. that's the difference here and now. Plus they've politicized the ballet world and that's another reason why it's so cold and dead.....no life in the dancers. We need to bring that back.
Every moment of every pose is just so beautiful!
Each cell of his body was just made for dancing!...and the hard training he allways did!...just perfect and precise movements!...
Pam, what a treat!!! I never saw this one. Rudy is glorious and yes, his arms … thank you for posting!!!!
Such a beautiful man and amazing dancer - he embodies the fantasy of her rose suitor. One for the ages.
You can’t keep your eyes off him! Spectacular!

Thanks for this exceptional video❤❤Rudi was full of energy and amazing artistry. His partner also
danced well and kept up with him. Very enjoyable❤😊
@@PamBoehmeSimon Yup he's almost demonic here. It almost makes me laugh. And those leaps, pretty sloppy and yet still demonic!
Leaps didn’t look sloppy to me! What is wrong with your perception?
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video music with us. Happy New Year 2025 ❤
Thank you so much for this. It took me back to seeing him at Covent Garden dancing "Marguerite and Armand" with Margot Fonteyn.
Thank you; I'd never seen this performance before.

you are most welcome, and thank YOU for watching and for taking the time to write.
Yes, the arms are amazing! The lighting however doesn't measure up.

Yes she was impressive too. Keeping it simple and sweet. No one could compete with Rudi here!

if you look at all the pictures of Karsavina, she is wearing the bonnet

Carl Maria von Weber: Invitation to the Dance
Incantevole🥀
... and Nijinsky wowed us with His leaps and bounds. Two of a kind. Who will we choose? Both great spirits of the same rose.

Manual Legris and Rudolf Nureyev danced this role to the summum of their art . These are certainly the best versions of all.
Indeed, rfey are magnificent =
Beautiful ballrt but lighting is so dark hard to see Nueyev clearly. So this happdns at night but lighting could simulate moonlight
I completely agree. Mood lighting wreaks havoc with video quality.
who' s the dancer-ballerina?
Denise Jackson =)

Who is playing the beautiful cello solo?
Let me see what I can find out.

I suppose you refer to his arm(s), bras, and not his brassiere ! the s in bras is silent in French though
Lol yes, you are correct... that would be a brain glitch on my part. Thanks for the heads up. Shall remedy it asap.
haha, I read “port de bras” as a step where the arm in fifth scoops to the floor, then returns to 5th.
Nureyev based his port de bras on the photos of Nijinsky's arm movements.
Swoon....
If he were 5 -10-years younger,it would be better......
shame on you! this is as much an emotive performance as a technical one - and what he brings is 5 - 10 more years of life.
