    Hair stylist here... The mason Pearson brush is all about the name. It’s JUST A BRUSH. If you guys want to know some good ones, let me know none of them are over like 10.00. I also have been a theater/film wig and hair mistress for 25 years. I’ve been around the block a few times . Make up brushes... Wayne Goss brushes. TOTALLY WORTH IT .

      I’ve got naturally curly/chemically treated Afro hair and the mason Pearson changed my life to put it lightly! It allowed for deeper scalp exfoliation and a shine on the hair. Any others you’d recommend? X

    I’m a dentist and I definitely agree: get an electric toothbrush!

    • @askalemuralia
      @askalemuralia 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      My dentist said that you can use an electric brush unwell and then it won't make a difference. She recommends the classic one, as it requires more effort and therefore you'll always input that one because if you don't, the difference can be felt much harsher than the difference between a not properly used electric cleanings. Not sure if this was coherent, but what I'm trying to get to is I have a classic one and I often feel like I could probably clean my very back teeth better with an electric one. What do you think? P.s I'm also a lazy teeth brusher especially in the evenings ^^"

    I work for a premium beauty brand so nearly all my skin care is free. My mother was a skin care fanatic and she had amazing skin and no wrinkles at all( even though she loved the sun a lot) Her secret was to use something a bit "greasy" as she got older and I have to agree with that. I just turned 50 and I have no wrinkles. I use the Weleda Skin Food only as an eye and lip contour. I do believe most modern formulas for eyecreams do litlle to protect the fine skin around the eyes. I always like to equate it like when you want to keep leather supple, you need to work some grease into it! haha as for shampoos and conditioners I have to disagree. I have very long thick hair and cheaper products are an absolute nightmare for me! I need salon quality ones because in addition the water where I live is quite hard. I use organic castor oil for my eyebrows and eyelashes in my night routine. I like to add almond and/or argain oil to my body lotion and use the argan for my hair applied overnight before I want to wash my hair ( I only wash it every 3 days). The brand Fushi has great organic oils.

    • @schnauzerlover1
      @schnauzerlover1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree on the “greasy” part. Just before I turn in for the night I apply a little bit of pure Shea butter as an eye contour because I find it’s so good for the “crow feet” area. I also use it as lip balm. Perfect.

      @@brooklynwaterfield5776 yeah it's thick and oily hard to spread though , the parfum is a bit strong. I bought it last month. I think for greasy one any butter would work or a cream like embryolisse. I would be careful and put just a bit to avoid milia.

    As a dentist I can say there’s much more than just investment needed for a good tooth brush to be actually beneficial for your teeth. A sonic toothbrush like your Sonicare is worth the investment as an electric one, no matter the price can do more damage than benefit. However a classic toothbrush with soft bristles is just as good as any Sonicare and there’s absolutely no need to splurge on a device for better oral care. Anyhow love the video :)

  • @ralphandleosmom9075

    When I was younger I splurged on skincare. I would never do that again. Most “splurge” lines are over fragranced and therefore bad for skin. I look for effective ingredients and formulas now plus prescription products as needed (retin A for me). I splurge on makeup, clothes, shoes and handbags now. Again, though, I look for quality not price.

    To be honest, I agree with most but I don't agree with moisturizer, SPF and Shampoo/conditioner. There are tons of great moisturizers in the drugstore and a lot of Asian SPs are cheap and better than those in Sephora. There is no need to spend money there . However, when it comes to shampoos/conditioners, more expensive shampoos are not using Sulfates and other harmful and drying ingredients. I would invest in a good shampoo, nothing in 100-200$ range, that's outrageous but a brand like Purity makes a great shampoo that takes care of your hair. L'oreal and other brands are using a lot of harsh chemicals that are bad for hair, your body, and the environment.

    I love your philosophy behind why you choose to splurge at the end. The “I don’t know you” part had me laughing and smiling because for so long, TH-cam was saturated with “beauty you tubers” that plugged for a product so hard just because they made commission off of a code, but had no value behind it and would stop using it as soon as their new sponsor came in. You talk about these pieces with value highlighted behind them, breaking it down to how important it is to get your money’s worth of a more expensive product. I wish you would have been around when I was 15-20 😭❤️

    I respectfully disagree on the skincare and haircare sections.
    Skincare - less is more. I caused contact dermatitis on my face because I used so many serums with active ingredients. Less is more. As dr Grey here on TH-cam said, you need prescription retinol in the evening with an affordable cream with no perfume and alcohol (I like the Cerave in the big tub) and sunscreen in the morning (you can skip moisturiser if you don’t need it). I add hyarulonic acid because I’m dry. If you’re in the U.K., I can suggest Skin+Me, they are licensed dermatologists who mix your personalised serum with prescription retinol, and other active ingredients, amping up slowly the prescription retinol in it. It’s delivered monthly to your door for 20£ per month.
    Haircare: I’m platinum blonde and more expensive shampoos like the Oribe and Olaplex make a big difference for treated hair.
    I agree with all the others, it’s a great video. 😀

    While most expensive products are good, more than once I’ve been disappointed because some of these products didn’t respond well enough, that’s why I have a theory that the best way to find out is to test them before buying than regretting later. One example that taught me the lesson was the Charlotte tilbury finishing powder: all my friends were super happy with it and when I finally got it, my skin would get very shiny in a couple of hours and for a 50 euro powder that was just unacceptable. I now use a finishing powder from makeup revolution pro and it blurs and keep my skin beautifully for a good 8 hours. So yes, I no longer keep the philosophy that an expensive product will do wonders and a cheaper one won’t.

I am not after the newest trend in makeup, although I really take good care of my skin on daily basis, I watch you like I catch up with my friend. Weird, I know! Take care and stay always safe and beautiful inside and out! ❤️

    The point is you do not need to spend so much. I did the same mistake investing in La mer, sisley, guerlain. Most of the cosmetics she mentioned are full with ingredients which are not good for the skin. I have checked the products she mentioned with an app called "Codecheck". Everybody can download it for free and check. Personally, I like products without harmful ingredients for my skin, such as Lavera, which are very very affordable. The others you pay for the name.

    I looove Andreea and all her makeup and hair tips, BUT for skincare, just go to your dermatologist (one you really trust) and splurge on what they recommend after the evaluation of YOUR skin. The needs of every skin are SOOOO different depending on your age, your genes, where you live in, your hormones, etc. The WORSE mistake you could make is go out and buy whatever you see someone else recommending, even if you feel related with their speech, they describe your skin type problems or give a testimony on how they used to have skin problems that are now gone....you could be damaging your skin or/and making your skin look worse.

    I agree with the Aveene lip balm (the stick, not the one in the jar). I have very dry lips and that's very good. But I would invest in a good lip mask. With regards to shampoo, I would invest in case of scalp issues. Cheap shampoo can damage it!

    I have been a holistic master esthetician for over thirty years and I teach beauty and aging naturally in my three holistic skin care salons. I love watching you and with absolute respect your cleanser is SO important and should be like, face food for your skin. I do think if you are a foundation and concealer wearer you should wash twice. I don’t believe in wearing foundation and concealer because I do feel it is the number one cause of acne and aging besides the sun. I know you are a make up artist and I love your work. What I say is simply my professional opinion after taking care of hundreds of thousands of clients over three decades.
    With absolute respect for all you do.

    I invested into haircare and it changed my life. I have superfine hair. So often things dried it out or pulled it down.
    My skincare is a true mix. I use everything from the drugstore to all the way high end. I like to try very similar products in different companies.
    Makeup: colours I love and often use: splurge. Colours I love but not use often: save.
    I have super fair but super olive skin. My complexion colour product availability is limited and I do not care or look at formula or price anymore. First comes colour :D
    Tools: with my superfine hair I barely use any tool. I don't even brush my hair for half of the week, cuz detangling with my fingers is enough. Brushes: the lottery comparison is very good! I got a set from the Lidl isle.... My best brushes ever even compared to KvD and IT ... So I always try my luck ;) I hope however that one day I can actually afford and invest into some big labels. Once I learnt how to use brushes it was a game changer how my makeup looked and now I can also tell the difference if I'm using my bad eyebrushes or the good ones!

    Bonjour Andrea. Merci pour la vidéo. I agree with all the recommendations you say in your video. I am a painter and was an art restorer in Florence Italy and I believe the brushes are THE investment to do and the products that will sit first on the skin should be made of good ingredients. The good brushes have the hairs well glued into the ferrule and the ferrule is well glued on the handle. I used the same rules for my makeup brushes I use for my makeup brushes. Thanks

    funny that you said we should splurge on make-up brushes! I thought that, too! But now I am a firm believer, that you actually don't have to spend that much money for a single brush (for example 50$). I recently bought the rephr brush for bronzer (actually because of your recommendation :) ) and at first I LOVED it. But I have to say that it shed EVERY TIME I use it :( I don't know why. It's not a crazy amount, but it will always loose one to two hairs and that's crazy for a brush on that prize level! Whereas my Real Technique brushes never shed and are actually very soft and do their job as well! ZOEVA brushes, too! So you don't actually have to spend that much money for one brush in my opinion.

    So basically you love expensive makeup 😂 Jokes aside, I have found great products at the drugstore but it is true that it is a bit of a russian roulette and through the years I have found myself with piles of drugstore makeup that I didn't enjoy and would think "well at least it was just x pounds". And when you sum up the cost of such an amount of disappointing products, it adds up pretty quickly. But for me, it's not even about the money. I personally cannot stand having loads of products I am not passionate about. And the truth is, with expensive makeup, and if you know they are cult products and that they are recommended by makeup artists you love like Andreea, I would much rather save up my money towards the few products I am really looking forward to having, and I am very rarely disappointed when I do make the purchase. And I find that, inevitably, I cherish them so much more because it took work (to make the money to buy it) and thought and longing for months before I finally decided to make the purchase. Rather than just casually grabbing for a 5 pound something at the drugstore on your way to the till, and which you will forget about in a month's time. So for that, after this many years, I am much happier having a smaller collection of high-end products that I know will never fail me.
