  • My 3rd Reaper boss fight. This one was more tricky as you have to rely on melee crits to destroy his body parts, its the only way to kill as him as he will regen health from normal hits. He has 4 different Auto abilities so it's vital to keep the disrupted affliction on him via a purgator or a librarian with psychic scream. To destroy different body parts you need to attack him from different directions including the front, sides, and flank.
If I did this fight again I would bring two interceptors, one purgator, and one Justicar.
For anyone interested in watching me live stream my twitch channel is / jubei216 . I mostly stream in the evening eastern US time.

Hardest challenge in the game IMO, only fight I’ve ever lost. And that was 40 hours into a grandmaster game, F.

Damn man sorry to hear that. This fight is all about the critical hits, make sure to use the stratagem that gives all your knights 50% crit chance for 1 turn.

@@Jubei216rei agree on critical hits. Rolled into the fight on Legendary with improved understanding of the game and 2 Interceptors with 60% base crit and -slaughtered- him with more ease than on Normal.
A key point I eventually realized, that the game does nothing to explain, is that bosses have different body parts you can crit chop off on different sides of their body. Munificus has two superb ones on his back called Supplicating Heart and Supplicating Lungs. Breaking those gives him a permanent -25% Crit Vulnerability, and a permanently lowered stun resistance respectively. But even that comes with a catch: the rear facing is protected by Lashing Tails, which launch any Knights that try and actually attack the back into orbit. So they key there is to initiate the back attack with a Purgator Psilencers Disrupt Shot to numb the tails. Could cut them off. Oh! Another valuable approach is to have my Apothecary give an Interceptor +2 Stun Iron Hands, standard equipment for my Apothecaries. Ringing his bell with Stun means even more free crits.
I definitely see the value of the Crit Stratgem for chopping off pieces. I rarely have time to get it, so I make do with Hammerhands and Astral Aim, plus that high base crit rate. Instead, I rolled with Tide of Shadows, the 100% Immunity let us run through all the plague slime he spews without getting sick, and shake off any plant bloom spawn we didn’t get around to. And of course Infinity Gate, helps move everyone right on top of him for the big finish no matter where he jumps. Other than that it’s just managing all the plant spawn that comes out, and a final bonus game of managing greed at picking up all the pink seed pods scattered all over the map.
All told, I appreciate how combining all this leads to a very winnable fight. There’s just no way I would have figured this all out in one play through without a guide.

Slightly confused I had only beaten this reaper once and failed the campaign so after a while I decided to try again killed every reaper apart from this one on the new game and I’m now fighting Mortarion on the final battle really confused to how I skipped this

@@BlackTemplarpudsey you only fight four Reapers… the first three are the colors you choose by having Vakir research them. Then, at the end when you go to the Warp, it picks one of the two remaining as the Guardian of the Garden. And the fifth one you just won’t fight that game! Maybe they sneak away to start Nurgle’s next evil scheme. But you had a 20% chance not to see him and got lucky!

I kinda dig it. Warhammer 40k is as much a "grimdark" setting as it is a wargame where you paint miniatures with two thin coats of flashy colours. And with XCOM being inspired by such games (turn-based, bird-view, square-based movement, etc.) it made sense to me.

From what I've seen there is a tutorial stage with Khornate presence. But it is all too brief and little variation is showed. So no Khornate Astartes. Slaanesh and Tzeentch are entirely absent from the game sadly.
