It all started for me over 30 years ago...ONE documentary brought it all together and educated me to the history of Gospel Music. That was Say Amen Somebody...I had never heard of Willie Mae Ford Smith ...I had heard of Thomas A., Dorsey ...Dr. Dorsey's Immortal Song, Precious Lord was and is well known thruout the world. I had heard of The Barrett Sisters...but didn't know much about them. After "Say Amen'.." I began to research and find out more and more....which of course led to Roberta Martin and her contribution ...with the availability of the internet it just increased my knowledge and added to my appreciation for this great music and the great musicians who have nurtured it and helped it grow. My dad loved Mahalia Jackson ..and I thought that she was the only Gospel Singer...ha ..little did I know..and Im glad now I do know now .....I feel somewhat sad in that it doesn't seem that singers today carry on the tradition quite like these did.

I thank God I was there when The Martins did that memorable reunion at The Smithsonion. it was so moving and I felt Raptured in God! When they opened with "Only A Look" I wanted to just scream out in The Holy Ghost. So many of the singers who sang that day are now in Heaven and I miss them for I loved The Martins and many of them were personal friends.

Archie Dennis was a wonderful man of God. I came into contact with him many times when I was working for Nancy Harmon. He was a precious man of God that really lived the life of Gospel music.

    Thanks again
For history of gospel where and when gospel was felt different and song from natural feelings. Not style and luxurious. Thank you again.
You know my mindset what my interests is. God bless.

I just discovered this group through hearing a recording of Delois and her sisters. Her voice was so beautiful that I sough out more and found this group.Gospel at this time was so different. They are singing about the nature and character of our Lord and Saviour, not what he can give us. There's such a distinction in this type of music between the gospel I am used to. I can't get enough of them, where can I find more interviews? Sheet music? etc? I have gone through all their material on Spotify and I can't get enough. Thanks for uploading this. God bless you.

Roberta Martin, and The Roberta Martin Singers presented the very best of Gospel Music. They're theme song, "Only A LQQk," words and music composed by, Anna Shepherd, and arranged by Virginia Davis. However, it was published by Roberta Martin Studio of Music in 1948.
