A52 - Build it once, build it thrice, now the steering rack is very nice. Arete supercar project.

- In a previous video showcasing the suspension geometry, an animation in that video exaggerated the tie rod placement. A lot of viewers lamented the bump-steer it might cause. A farther investigation into it, led me to decide to relocate the steering rack and correct the 1.5 inches off, to a new and nearly perfect location. This video shows that relocation along with some lamination work to create the air scoop on the passenger side of the car.

I like "Today's the day." It like a positive, "I'm getting it done." affirmation. So thankful this guy shares his positive journey forward with us.
"Alright , today is the day" . I'm always looking forward to hear that😊
We are hanging on your EVERY video! I said once that you could do instructional videos for others BUT I think now that your thing is the creation of this masterpieces. If that is the case, then create away!
I'm creating! Thanks for hanging!
@@BuilderCreator You know I will!
Congratulations on the big audience that you’ve gained! I hope I can come see your progress again soon!
Come on down, would love to see you!
Well now that you have over 40,000 people watching you, I guess that means you have to finish the car, what a good way to motivate progress, having 40,000 experts and bosses informing you on what needs to been done and how long it should take Ha! Thanks for the interesting content
Or if I could just get everyone to send me $100. . .That would motivate me! Ha! Speed things up a bit as well!
im always impress when i realize the amount of work this proyect takes, building it from nothing.. its amaizing! keep the videos coming!
I'm glad, because I'm getting less impressed and more disgusted by the amount of work. Ha! Actually things are going pretty good and what else would I do -Netflix?-
@@BuilderCreator i hope you realize... its a pain in the ass, and practically nobody does this because of the amout of work, and more important the amount of knowledge required. And when you start considering the amount of things that could fail... start again from scratch... and sooo much more... this is why you are one of a kind,at least on youtube. You cant find anyone doing this kind of build on the internet, at least at this level! so please keep the strugle on and move fowards. Cheers!! keep the videos coming! they are a joy!
This channel is great... I’m so glad to be here.
I'm glad your here as well.
it's so satisfying to watch the fiberglass matt soak up the resin!!😀keep it up!!👍
I see you've got the 3D printer putting out parts. Any Superstang printed parts in the works?
@@BuilderCreator ya got a cupel of switch mounts part's that I'm designing for my next interior video!! that's where i like 3d printing it's good for making precise parts!!
The car is taking shape .Keep ist up!!!👍👍
Good lord 40k. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this much growth on a car channel.
The car is coming along nicely. The new workshop is looking good. The design slightly reminds me of the DeTomaso P72. Can't wait to see you rip around the tracks.
Kind of the same shape in the side air scoops! Although on the P72 the side scoops are big enough to eat a pedestrian. Ha!
Great to see more progress on the supercar. : )
WOOH! I've been following the channel for quite some time but I'm finally all caught up
Yeah! But now you have to wait each week for a new episode. . .Boo! I'll try to make it worth the wait.
Thought I was a proficient "petro-head". I am humbled. This is amazing!
i'm so excited for the final result of this car
Thank for another amazing video, really enjoying seeing this build
Had to google bump steer. Love this project
Congrats!! You're the best! 👍👍
Fantastic work mate.... keep it up!
look at that, finally! some core cell.
To go with my sore cells!
So cool to see that the chanal grow so fast so big, thanks to buildofficial
Nice work! do you know Arete in spanish means earring? Looking forward to see more details in the transmission engineering
Did not know that. Shiny pretty thing that complements ones face. Very apropos!
Chuck Beck lives in Georgia
He is a Component car genious. Should consult with "THE MAN" that has engineered molds and car builds one after the other !
HaHa! People keep try to tell me I'm building a death trap, then you mention Chuck Beck the man driving a Lamborghini V12 motorcycle. You must not be one of those people worried about builders making their own vehicles! Would love to meet the man.
Well you know what they say, if it's worth doing, it's worth doing over
Have subscribed and love the content.
Thanks for following the build.
Nice
Hello there. I think the is realy impressiv. But have you checked so the steeringrack is turning the right when you turn it right. It looks that it will go the other way. Please check that.
Best regards Conny from sweden.
If not I will just learn to drive looking through the mirror. Ha! Thanks for watching.
Sir, then were you able to figure out the working of that Prius steering column..?
Sometime right before I did the work. :)
Hi. I see black lines drawn on your car. Are they Sharpie marker. My painter said paint manufacturers do not Guarantee paint finish if there is sharpie underneath. I had to put filler over all sharpie and others have had to grind it out. Cheers
Those lines are actually on the back side of the laminate. It is just translucent enough to see through. On that note- A good way to commit suicide and still be able to collect on life insurance, is to walk into a body shop with a can of silicone spray. Ha!
When I was being taught to fibreglass, the rule was cloth required a squeegee and chopped strand matt required a roller. You never see surfboards being made with rollers or gel coat, usually not even a flow coat, cloth doesn't need it. It gives a decent finish anyway. Chopped strand matt really does need a good roll to get the air out and a decent gelcoat to give a nice finish.
It was the job I did, before coding, if you search Jbodystyles sideskirts here on TH-cam, you'll find the only video I made where I make some sideskirts, the video quality is poor, because it's over ten years ago, that's if anyone is bored enough to actually search for it
That was a rather long winded way to say, yeah, cloth doesn't need a roller.
Edit to add, it's this here
th-cam.com/video/IpNkWwFo__Q/w-d-xo.html
Edit to add, none of that stuff is for sale anymore, although I do still have the molds,.but my shed ain't big enough, and I code now, so, yeah, not a plug for business.
Coding, like writing requires just some space in your head for materials! Ha!
@@BuilderCreator lower overheads lol
You should make a strap of some kind to hold your glasses in place, so you don't have to pull those weird faces to try and keep them on. It's an easy fix, and makes life so much more pleasant.
Keep up the good work! I know this is unrelated but in a previous video I saw that the car was a bit tight and if you were gonna take this you have to wear a helmet and Im just wondering if youd even fit in there?
Yeah, that was a borrowed seat from my sons buggy; about 3.5inches thicker than the actual seats will be. I will fit fine. With a helmet? . . We shall see.
@@BuilderCreator Alright Im exited to see you drive it in the future! Good luck!
wich steal type tubes you are using to build chassi frame? 1020, 1045 or other one?
4130 (chromoly) DOM
@@BuilderCreator thanks for fast reply and congrats for the project
Announcement! No one is getting any Christmas presents, I used my credit cards to move resin around... Listen, we all have to make sacrifices!
If I could just get hold of my wife's credit cards we could really save some money. Ha!
Building a supercar, I would've opted for titanium tubing for the structure.
Building with titanium, I would have opted for you to fund the project! Ha! Next round perhaps?
@@BuilderCreator I always thought about how cool it'd be to create a supercar. I have a great last name for one that would compete with the other big names haha.
What is your goal / estimate AUW? (In kg preferably!)
1000kg dry (2200lbs) Presently at about 600kg so I'm doing pretty good.
@@BuilderCreator Very impressive if you keep to that estimate. Gordon Murray’s T50 has shown the world that lightweight supercars are not a thing of the past
I followed Steve Smith's "The Trans Am and Corvette Chassis Design/Theory/Construction" book to determine the position of the RnP. There was no bumpsteer whatsoever on my 1954 Pontiac. Here's the method I followed: www.route66hotrodhigh.com/PlotRnP.html
I hope you don’t mind I stole your ‘ today is the day’ in my latest video, you should watch it.
Oh, I don't mind, but if it gets taken down for a copyright strike don't blame me. Ha! Feels good getting a project out the door!!!!! That is a day!
Shifting? Transmission?😏
Today is the day
Sure is. . .all the way till midnight! :)
Why don't you use an Electric Power Steering
I will be using an electric power steering assist. (Toyota Prius unit) The assist will be located under the dashboard.
i would not want to crash in this fiberglass cardboard car
Correct: sadly he is not interested in driver protection.
Said Richard Smith
@@BuilderCreator Jay: I do admire many aspects of your project. Equally tho, as an engineer, I have profound fears for the integrity of your "tub" and how it would perform under stress and duress as well as (heaven forbid), an accident. Important information is out there, but you seem totally oblivious. Good luck
@@richardsmith9509 I am not oblivious. It is so early in the process that 80% of the composite structure has not even been built, the steel structure is not yet placed, and I RARELY describe future design features, yet you continually beat upon this drum of safety concerns after watching a few videos not knowing what safety features I may have spent countless hours preparing to implement. I appreciate you coming and being part of the channel, but please start your comments like the one above; it goes a long way, compared to the "this is a death trap" approach.
@@BuilderCreator Jay....I'm trying really hard to remain positive. In my 25 years of motorsport/road-racing I learned so much. Its second nature: I will leave this with thinking of the design as working from the inside out and NOT from the outside in.
So will you be old enough that they take away you're drivers license when this car is finished?
Maybe I should add autonomous driving features?
Too painful to watch.
Take an aspirin!
