you draw a card from call of the ring even if you keep the same creature as ringbearer... you choose a creature when the ring tempts you every time, you are just choosing the same creature from gatherer: 6/16/2023 Call of the Ring's last ability will trigger any time you choose a creature as your Ring-bearer, even if that creature was already your Ring-bearer. and I am fairly certain you can stack the triggers so Sauron reolves first so you discard your hand and draw five cards I over ramped him so I could always get him out early... mindstone, sol ring, fell war, all 2 mana signet, all the 2 mana take 1 damage for colors signet, still running comanders sphere, inherited envelope, and the draw guild signet, treasure nabber, and dockside.... I figured I wanted to be able to always empty my hand and be able to use goblin welder as a way to get back bolas' citadel and maskwood nexus and have adequate mana to kick a rite of replication on a nazgul but there is a very real chance I build two completely different decks around him just because I am such a LotR nerd and then I don't bore my LGS group... I want to use a redirect spell from a key creature onto sauron as a dream one day so it fizzles, but would they be given the option THEN to pay the ward cost or would it fizzle by default because it wasn't paid at cast?

Sorry but for Sauron as the commander, how to you make opponents discard for the likes of waste not and tourach? the rings tempts you, the discard and draw is the player not opponent no? or am I missing something.
Doesnt this need way more protection to be viable? If players are packing a bit of Interaction our commander will be dead quickly and the deck falls apart. I get the ward but sacing a legendary isn't a big price to play at turn 5-6?
Having played this deck I can attest you don't really need protection for your commander. Sacking a legendary creature or artifact is a HUGE deal because often those cards are the linchpins to your opponent's decks. That essentially makes any singleton interaction a 2-for-1 (and that's not mentioning that you still amass an army from the spell being cast). Now admittedly this deck isn't as powerful as some of his other brews but I've had a couple games where between the amass triggers and reanimation package opponents can't deal with me.
Haven’t played magic in years but wanted to build a LOTR deck to get back into it.. thanks for this video; all the other Sauron builds on yt were aristocrats. Sorry but no fun for me
@@decktechsfordecks i just played with it yesterday at my LGS and it was super fun! Orc + Reaver cleaver is broken i was getting a ridiculous amount of treasure, bought a few upgrades like embercleave to add to the deck too!
Seeing as my comment is now a year after the fact, I just wanted to piggyback off the Toxrill choice in here. So, as I'm sure you've seen, here in September of 2024, a new card called 'Maha, Its Feathers Night' came out. "Creatures your opponents control have base toughness 1." Pair this creature with Toxrill and your opponents cannot keep creatures in play at all. Verrrrry mean. Bring them both back at the same time with Victimize and you're cooking. You're instant arch enemy at that point, buuuuuuuuut.... .
