DIY Sliding Patio Door Installation (In Stucco)

  • Here we installed a replacement vinyl sliding patio door into a stucco wall. Although the stucco was not DIY, the rest of this installed was. Replacing a patio door is not complicated if you understand the process. Removing the old patio door, preparing the opening and following a few simple strips will lead to success.
    The actual installation of the replacement patio door is the same for any wood framed home weather the home has wooden siding, vinyl siding or stucco. The exterior finish will differ based upon the exterior of the home. In this video the exterior is “stucco”. Our best option with finishing the outside of this door was to hire a pro to make this patio door look awesome.

    Thanks, just the video I needed. The only thing I will do differently is to NOT use duct tape to hold the plastic in place. In the Las Vegas heat, you're apt to get duct tape glue impossibly stuck to your new door frame!

      Thankfully we did this job in the winter so sticky tape residue wasn’t an issue. There was some excessive silicone and packing tape on the frame but some mineral spirits took care of it. Thanks for watching this video!

    Great vid and editing. A few questions if you dont mind.
    1. Where are you located?
    2. How much time did the stucco guys spend doing the fill-in/patch (both 1st and 2nd times they came)?
    3. How much did you pay them?

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the kind remarks. I am located in Las Vegas. The stucco guys were there for about an hour and a half the first time and an hour the second time. He charged around $300 but we had him do some other repairs also

    Was there a nailing flange on the bottom of the door
    If so does it have to be cut.off
    Thanks nice job

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for watching, yes. The door was shipped sitting on a beefy 2x4 that was screwed to the bottom nail flange. We unscrewed the 2x4 and removed the nail flange with a razor knife. In the past I have removed all of the nail flanges of a door like this an installed them like a “replacement door”.

    mrfredsdiy - I live in Vegas and am looking for a good Stucco Repair guy/Company to finish the stucco arounf my newly installed slider...
    Mind sharing who you used?

    Didn’t know you could use a roller for stucco, what kind of paint roller did you use?

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Great question! Stucco has such a deep texture that a very thick or “deep nap” roller should be used. We used a 1” nap roller for this project.

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The door in this video was from Home Depot and with a few upgrades it was about $1,500. The stucco guy charged about $300. Thanks for checking out the video!

    Never cut the stucco with saw like that nor in a straight line.

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for checking out the video! A diamond tipped saw blade is perfect for cutting stucco and It would be impossible to cut anything but a straight line with one. At 5:50 I mentioned that the stucco guys would be finishing the job. They used air chisels to stagger the straight line to make the repairs.

    How much did you pay for the stucco work?

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The stucco guys did this door area, a window and other repairs. The price was around $300.

      @@MrFredsDIY Great thanks. I received a quote for an Anlin slider 95 x 80; $1,178 out the door. Will install myself but not sure if I want to do the stucco or farm it out.

    "You can do this Patio Door in Stucco installation yourself... Hire a Stucco guy." Some things are better to hire out.

    • @MrFredsDIY
      @MrFredsDIY  ปีที่แล้ว

      I’m halfway there with you but DON’T hire a stucco guy to do a patio door installation! You are correct, some things are better to hire out so hire a stucco guy to fix the stucco like I did.
