installing new sliding doors is always good, but I want to share with you my experience, I live in Orlando Florida, I contacted the Masterslide company with the problem of my sliding doors (if you ask, I will share the contacts) they replaced the rollers, installed a track cover and a new handle with a lock. Now my door is like new and I'm as happy as a child! And most importantly, I thought that I saved more than two thousand dollars! Just because repairs are cheaper!))) so think before ordering new ones. This is not advertising, this is my case.
Great video, bought a Jeld-Wen from Lowes and this is my project tomorrow. Doesn't seem to bad, have a helper and will take my time flashing. Thanks for doing this video.
you can also put some tape on the back of the locking mechanism, close fully, then disengage the lock bolt and it will stick where it needs to be. straighten accordingly, mark screw holes, etc
Liquid nail is the absolute worst thing to use on vinyl. I do this everyday as a contractor for the last decade. NP-1 or rainbuster polyurethane would be per manufacturer specs to seal around the fin where a 2-3/4 X 8 screw is required not nails. And on a wooden subfloor I’d never install a door without a recess pan designed specifically for moisture. Tyvek tape wouldn’t pass code it needs a pressure design per code. Also the tyvek would pass over top of the screwed off fin at the top of door to prevent water running downhill not taped over it after it’s screwed off. Don’t pull permits if you’re willing to follow these directions.
Great video! I noticed that you didn't use stretch tape or house wrap around the frame of the patio door, why not? Okay, disregard the question, I just got to the end of the video where you spoke about it. :)
Standard practices still apply roof or not. It's an opening into the structure and should be treated same for all windows and doors. Otherwise it's sloppy work.
I love that door I copied the manu number from your video. But how do you make up the distance when you Sheetrock the wall inside. The frame sits back? No? Your working 2x4 framing correct? Great job, love your videos!,
If you are replacing an existing door, do you have any suggestions for breaking that liquid nail seal on the bottom of the existing slider? Obviously you don't want to be too rough with the old door and have glass shatter everywhere. Thanks.
How hard is to add flashing to an existing sliding door? I believe this is the reason i am getting water in my ceiling basement. any advice? also because the apartment is very cold in the winter
Hey Josh, we are in the process of building our own house and our contractor got our 4 panel sliding doors in. What is the height and width of that door? Our rough opening is 6”8 and I know that’s standard height but it feels short. Was wondering what you thought about that? Thanks!
Shouldn't you take both glass doors out of the frame first and install? Much easier to handle and plum without the glass doors, as well as no danger of breakage during installation..
@@TheExcellentLaborer Something that sets up firm also acts as a mortar, and supports the door frame, reducing movement from traffic. In the event the door needs to be removed, silicone might be too adhesive, causing a lot of unnecessary damage in the process.
Nice video. However, did you notice there is no way to lock the door from the outside!! For real, No keyed locking mechanism. This is really something Pella should state on the packaging.
I need to remove and reinstall a similar door so I can have a custom made sill pan put underneath. Anyone with experience doing this? Would the nailing fin survive after removing nails and re-nailing? Any other problems with doing this?
Ok .. question? Might be a stupid one.. did you door have a nailing flange all the way around it? Our door will be sitting on concrete. What do we do about that nailing flange at the bottom?
I bought a Pella door and the are taking it back to remove the nail flange from the bottom since it will be installed on a slab. You then drive screws through the sill. How did you install yours ?
We ended up and removed the flange on the bottom. Then used liquid nail heavy duty for the bottom which also worked as a sealer. Nailed the flange around the sides! Basically just like shown in the video! It’s perfect!
Question I had some sliding doors from Lowe’s installed and before when walking out of my living room out to my patio it was flesh and take a step down into my patio. Now my new doors I had to step up and out which seems like a tripping hazard, is that normal to have a lip on the inside when stepping out?
This is completely unrealistic! No measuring four times and still getting it wrong. No wife questioning if you really know what you’re doing. Frame was too plumb. And where’s the duct tape?! All jokes aside, great video!!! Planning on installing one soon and this will definitely be helpful.
It’s definitely a solid door. I really like mine so far. For the price I don’t think you can go wrong. Yes weather should be fine against the door. Hope that helps!
@@TheExcellentLaborer that’s great to hear! I got mine for $319 minus delivery and taxes but still a great deal. Also, I noticed it has a header but not like a usual window header- is that normal?

Hello guys . İs there any one know how can i order atio vinly sliding door panel . İ mean i don t want all part . Just sliding door part . Than i can replace my self . . There is no place sell only some part of it . Thank you so much
I actually ordered and just received a 150 series 96x80 no blinds. It's marketed as reversible/universal. You can configure it any way you like. It comes with instructions to do so. The different ways involve removing the panel(s) and flipping the frame top to bottom and removing the track and relocating it from bottom to top before flipping or top to bottom after prior to reinstalling the panel(s). Then reinstalling the handle as needed as well as the latch potentially if your combination of repositioning causes it to be upside down and or backwards. Again this is with the no blinds version. And the instructions to do so are provided with the door. Not able to order as left or right. Its just universal and you can bet it will likely be opposite of how you'd like to install it. But definitely doable. I can't speak for the blinds version but I feel like it would work similarly but perhaps not. Pella does have instructions also on there website but they seem to be generic and referencing another model. But looking at my instructions for the 150 and comparing them to the online instructions. It's the exact same process.
@@ericinalaska7648 Thank you for this information. i just purchased this 150 series door without the blinds and i need to reverse the door. so glad its doable.
A 72x80 vinyl 250 double sliding door from pella actual size is 71.5”x79.5”. So the rough opening is recommended to be 72”x80”. You want to have at least a half inch bigger rough opening then the width and height of the frame size. Also the door shown installed does not meet u factor and would not pass code in the Chicago area. So check what the minimum u factor is in your area.
What did you think about those mini blinds?

If you end up doing the flashing under the door, what do you use for fastening it to the floor? Liquid nails ontop of the tape? screws?
Liquid nail is the absolute worst thing to use on vinyl. I do this everyday as a contractor for the last decade. Thank you for this video. I am about to install this exact Pella door. I was wondering if you can reverse the door?
Instead of "reveal" , I would say "gap" between the operating panel stile and frame jamb but great show!
Yeah that term would work!
What would be wrong with caulking the top and sides of the door before hammering the nails in?
lining up lock mechanism can use carpenter square as oppose to eyeballing…

No flashing or sill pan? Seems like risky business - but looks like the exterior has a roof over it so probably not an issue
Would seem like the manufacture’s warranty would be nullified without a sill pan or flashing.
Until you spray it with a garden hose
