Hey Laura, didn't you once say you also reapply the slow-release fertilizer every four to six weeks? Is that correct? If so, do you skip the weekly fertilizing (with the water-soluble fertilizer) that week or do you do both (since the slow-release is heat-activated)?

I’ve avoided hanging baskets because I just needed your wonderful guidance on picking plants, how to plant it and how to feed and water them . You do not have to "pinch" or "dead head" Supertunias. The trimming back thing Laura does once, midseason. The whole point (benefit) in buying the Supertunias is so that you never have to deadhead them. I can't believe anyone ever grew petunias before these hit the market. I couldn't imagine individually pinching dozens of blooms off a plant.
Question, please answer if you can. I'm a novice at all of this and have purchased my first home where I can actually do whatever I want to do. In addition to that I have moved to a different climate. Was in Las Vegas and now in the high sierra's. The front of my home faces south west (more towards the west) and my little garden bed out front only gets sun from 2 or 3pm thru the rest of the day. I dont know what type of plants I should be trying to put in there. Shade? Part sun? Part sun seems to be the answer but a lot of plants that I like , I have looked up and eventhough they are classified as "part sun" it says that they do best in part or full sun. I'm so confused! What should I be looking for?
My Life My Smile a lot of gardening is trial and error. Don’t live in confusion! Just pick a plant, plant it and see how it performs. If it dies or isn’t really thriving, try something else until you get a combination that works for you! What are some native flowers that grow where you live? Try those and see what works. I can see the sierras from my house and now I’ll wonder how your garden is when I look at them 😂

Is the triangle garden gone and the veggie garden and new brick path where it used to be? Did the driveway shift? What happened to the old white archway there? Anyone? 😬😄

It depends on the plants but most do like to dry out a little before watering again, if your basket is too wet you will drown the roots and cause them to rot
Some of the Supertunias do not like a lot of water. I think the Bordeaux and the Blue Velvet are two that don't like it while the Limoncello, Latte and Bubble Gum variety will take whatever you throw at it. At least that seems to be what I observe from Laura's videos.
BTW I have just now starting to see the “Surpertunia Vista” series at our local Home Depot. Unfortunately I can’t find the water soluble or slow release fertilizer anywhere locally. I’ve opted to use Jacks water soluble fertilizer. Anyone have good success with it? I know I can buy PW fertilizer on-line but I would prefer to skip the shipping cost. Thanks
Hi Laura I bought a hanging basket with the plastic lining for Mother's day. The person who sold it to me said it was a great feature. Should I try to put a hole in it? I don't want to give my stepmom the basket if it's going to possibly rot.
Sometimes those plastic liners already have small holes in them like the size of a paper-punch hole. But the plastic helps to retain a bit more moisture than the coco-coir liner. The best way to tell is to give it a big drink of water and see if any comes out the bottom.
I live in The Dallas-Fort Worth area. I bought some Supertunias and have followed all your tips but I am not getting good growth yet. We are in our rainy season so the temps have not been consistently high. Does the temperature affect the growth of Supertunias?
I've noticed her supertunias start to really perform in the summer months. Late June, early July, they start to look amazing so yeah, maybe it's too soon.

I think you should poke a hole in it if it is going outside. Otherwise, it will overflow or the plants will sit in too much water.
