This is absolutely my favorite of the recent covers shes done! This is an epic version of this song. She immediately gets my vote for the next HUGE soundtrack theme song!!
Part of Floor's appeal (for me) are her gestures/mannerisms while she sings...while I may not always understand each word...her movements and facial expressions help me fill in what I'm missing...Great Reaction! 👊

I think what you said about Floor singing what is needed for the storytelling is one of the major reasons I became a fan of both Floor and Nightwish. Love your reactions I learn something every time. Floor can practically surf the music with her singing, with just the right amount of power and technique to own the wave. This cover is a great example, so are Shudder Before the Beautiful and Music: whether it's a massive wall of sound or something light and technical, she always seems to pick the perfect line...
My appreciation of Floor's singing comes from a slightly different direction... After hearing her absolute mastery of every genre that she attempts it seems like she has her basics so down that the mechanics are almost forgotten for her during her performances and she is totally immersed in emotions and story-telling, using her voice like a master craftsperson uses their tools... Just an observation from an old geezer... Your reactions and analyses are always entertaining. Thank you! Ciao!

I think you're absolutely correct, Julia. Floor's ability to not only tell a story with her voice but to connect us-- the listeners-- to the song she is singing on an emotional level. This is probably why people seem to instantly fall in love with her. I mean, she has the technical vocal chops, as you might say. But what she brings as an artist is that *je ne sais quoi*. The icing on the cake.

Most singers sing what they can in spite of the song. Floor sings what the song needs.
Exactly, there are people saying that floor is not a specialist but a generalist. But forget that a generalist who always performs well is also something to adore. The biggest reason is that not the singer, but the song determines how it should be sung. Have some doubts? Ask metal tuomas, who never composes the same thing since we have floor. You can hear it both in older songs with several athmospheres and styles like ghost love score but also newer songs like Greatest show on earth
@@fixxa6455 ,agree that versatility/generalism makes for a diverse, far reaching, amazing catalog of vocal work. Love not knowing what Floor will create next: keeps me excitedly coming back for more! Mystified that detractors levy the "not a specialist" label as a negative. If someone doesn't like Floor's performances, just move on!

Yeah, I wonder why nobody did a reaction of Susanne's performance. In my opinion, the version of M83 featuring Susanne Sundfor is much better! It's more epic more emotional ! Her voice, her performance is stunning, just awesome ! Floor has also a incredible voice, but I still prefer the original!

@@dimoraes0902 Interestingly, the very first time I saw Floor ( last year!) was with Nightwish at Wacken 2013 doing " Ghost Love Score". Now THAT was an introduction to a singer! After I picked my jaw off the ground, from outside the park, I noticed they were on the Ronny James Dio stage. And I honestly thought " The king is dead! Long live the queen!" ( Yes a " Kill the King" reference came automatically).

Thank you Julia. I'd never heard of Nightwish or Floor until a few days ago and thought I'd see what all the fuss was about and OMG... I'm addicted. I am a 45 year and counting E.L.O/Jeff Lynne enthusiast.E.L.O. are a symphonic rock/pop band that do things differently so the Nightwish Symphonic Metal sound is pleasing to me. Here Floors voice elevates this song and the emotions that it illicits. The beautiful guitars and instrumentation throughout remind me of Hans Zimmer's "Time". I also like the original by M83 and Susane Sundorf. Susane's voice is very different to Floors but also very beautiful. Thank you. Paul 👍😊

First, I just really enjoy your analysis of Floor's singing expertise and the detail you go into. Years ago I was blown away by M83's Oblivion. I always thought that Floor would just kill it if she covered it. Well, she did not disappoint. Her interpretation is just perfect. It is definitely worth listening to Suzanne Sundfor's original and the orchestral arrangement. But Floor's interpretation is amazing. Thanks for covering Floor.
I’ve heard this song performed live in concert by M83 (Kaela was the singer at the time of that tour) and she gave me goosebumps!!

Good cover. Although I like Floor and almost everything she touches I was still dreading to watch this cover. To be honest I was actually surprised how much of the same feeling she can bring to this song as the original with Susanne Sundfør. Susanne has more innocent/desperate voice that fits little better in this particular song. It´s a shame there is no longer a really good hd version of the live performance of the original "M83 Performs Oblivion Featuring Susanne Sundfør" in Jimmy Kimmel Live on the youtube anymore. I might be bias but not toward Floor on this one, but she still is one of my favorite female voices to listen

It was worth the wait to watch this. "Floor doing Floor things." Best observation, however, is that Floor doesn't need to show off - We know what she can do. The best of anything comes from a master who knows how much to add, to take away, and when less is more. Just like a master painter never leaves a canvas a brown mess, unlike the child artist first learning to paint. Floor takes compositions and interprets them, and we are better for it.
