It’s the same thing is Nassau. The whole drive between the airport and Atlantis is pretty sketch, that being said, the first place me n my best pal went to was the Fish Fry and made friends with the bar staff and then the last night we were there we went around to the local places, we were the only white people there everyone was shocked when we walked in lol.

So true about the van ride from the airport to the resort. We drove through the poorest of poor neighborhoods, houses are nothing but shacks, rebels walking around with guns, homeless people bathing in the ocean. But once we get to the resort and check in, time to get in the pool! It's got a swim-up bar!!!
This was funny. I spent a good chunk of my life in Mississippi... of course, I was in a suburb that looked like it could've been in almost any other state in the country. Nice homes, good schools (yes, there are a few in Mississippi 😂 there were always a handful of students that got into Ivy League schools and a school in the area always made it on national achievement lists). I just never had the "Mississippi" experience that people joke about, then I finally visited the Delta region and understood. It's still not comparable to what I've seen in Haiti or Jamaica, but compared to other states, I can see why it's the butt of jokes.
I'm from Mississippi as well and I know what you are talking about. There are a few places where things seem more in step with the rest of the country, but 20 miles down the road, it is like stepping back in time. Mississippi can be the best and worst place you have ever been.
I'm Canadian and we go to Cuba. I know exactly what he's saying when he talks about the drive from the airport to the resort. Lets just say there is ZERO stops between those 2 destinations 🤣
8:20 I went to Playa del Carmen Mexico for New Years a few years ago and never once felt unsafe. My wife went for jogs by herself around the city and never felt unsafe. Its like 30 minutes south of Cancun, but way less big corporate resorts and way more quant local beach town.
Most of the violence involves rival groups and not civilians. Although civilians can get caught in cross fire. Also don't do anything stupid like move to Mexico and start selling weed in cartel territory like one American anarchist did not so long ago.
The majority of my family lives in Mexico and I visit regularly. Mexico can be dangerous, especially if you don't know how to act. But it's really not that bad. People often conflate poor with dangerous.

Panama city wasn't bad, but the resort was out in the sticks and outside of that it was pretty rough. Bullet holes in the walls still standing from a bombed out building like rough...
I spent time around BVI, USVI, St Maarten etc. The minute he mentioned the van drive I lost it. Even worse is when you’ve been on island for a month or more. You find yourself mindlessly driving a rentals around and through those same neighborhoods to get to the “good” grocery store.

The interview went fairly well and then at the end, the principal asked me if I'd like for security to walk me to my car and I was like "oh, I took the (public transit) here, there is a station like 3 blocks away." They all looked at me like I was nuts.
Mexico is safer than people think. It’s very frowned upon to mess with tourist since tourists come to spend money. Even cartels somewhat welcome tourists
Mexico isn't as bad as its unwarranted reputation. Sure, there are some cities with a lot of crime, but there are plenty of beautiful, clean, and safe cities as well.
