  • Officials say four people reported shark bites off South Padre Island, Texas, on the Fourth of July. Three of them were taken to a hospital and the other was treated at the scene. The attacks are now among at least 15 in the waters off U.S. beaches this year.

Sharks chase fish into shallow waters to trap their prey, which notoriously swims in giant crowds called “bait balls,” which is when accidental encounters with humans become a bigger risk. They're not hunting humans.
I’ve watched these animals feed. They swim into a school of fish with their mouths open, thrash their head back and forth, somebody swims past and gets tagged. Then it's called an "attack" when it isn't.
It’s not like every time you go into the water, there’s something waiting to take a chunk out of you.
Anyone who has gone into the ocean has swum with sharks. They just may not know it, but they have.

@@annebreitrick6116 I figured. Hey... I have a question for you if you know something about sharks or if anyone reading this wants to chime in....
So ironically, a couple weeks ago curiosity got the best of me and I started down a rabbit hole of fatal shark attacks in the U.S.
Why is it that attacks are always back to back? Like once one happens, several more follow. What causes this behavior? For example, the fatal attacks in the U.S. by region always seem to usually be back to back and sometimes just a few short months apart and then an attack won't happen in that place for years. Why is that? What causes this? I just find it odd that lightning strikes in the same place.
Notable examples would be the Jersey attacks that inspired _Jaws_ and then fatal attacks in Hawaii, Florida, and the rare fatal ones in Puerto Rico. PR for example had 2 in the same year and then none for decades.

@@JohnDoe-cd6ro I don't know much about sharks, but your question is interesting. Is it a repeat offender shark? Was there a change in water currents, or a shoal of prey fish in the area or a lack of prey fish?

Stop the beach fishing. It's dangerous to try to draw one kind of fish to your lure and assume you won't draw another. Find a pier! Bigger sharks are smelling the bait. Make it illegal to fish from the beach.

I swam with tiger and bull sharks in FL and was lucky they were in a good enough mood to leave me alone. My girlfriend's friends were on the local news sitting on their surf boards with record numbers of sharks swimming below them around Cocoa and Daytona Beach, caught by the helicopter cameras. They usually don't bite when they can see it's a human.

Instead of dragging people around, how about applying pressure and stopping the bleeding? Applying a tourniquet with strips of cloth? Geez, this isn't that hard.
And once you've done that, you can't lift a woman to a car or hopefully a way the ambulance to get them to a surgeon? It's really hard to watch the dumb people as they film and do almost nothing or literally nothing.
