I grew up in a home where we dressed out our meats and canned everything we could. I presently live in an apartment with a majority of older residents. They always look at me like I am crazy for all the canning I do (don’t butcher, obviously, but can meat when it goes on sale). I just smile knowing I won’t go hungry if hard times hit and will have something to share with others who might also have need. God IS good, always!

Agreed. There's a woman on here who gets asked that question often. One day, she brought it up and, in a shrill voice, exclaimed, "I get up earlier!" She then laughed like it was the most ridiculous question ever asked. "Getting up earlier" is a disingenuous and condescending answer. We all get 24 hours. The real, honest answer as to how so much gets accomplished is excellent time management skills. Some people are born with a natural gift for it and others need more help.
Edit: I will say, however, that getting up early/earlier helps, too. But it's more about management of time than time itself.

Thank you Ruth Ann; I love farm life. Even as a child, I wanted to be a farmer's wife. I married an engineer instead. I love watching you teach us about the " old ways" of your mother and grandmother. My children are all grown and I have grandchildren; I am a retired teacher and have time now to try some of the old ways. It's fun and rewarding. I didn't write this on your previous video, but I want you to know that sending your children to the nearby outstanding school is the right thing to do. It's important for children to learn from other children, to have the responsibility of turning in homework, to participation in school activities. You are fortunate and I'm glad that you are taking advantage of this rare opportunity.

If new cheesemakers want an aged cheese that doesn't take 6 months to age, try colby. 4-6 weeks age time!

I will never make my own cheese, I’m in France, after all. 😊 But I do appreciate posts like these. They are so educational. Thank you! Cousins on my husband’s side have a small goat cheese production in the Poitou area. Every time we visit, we say hello to the goats. They are very curious creatures and so interested in the new human coming to see them. Love it!

I've made hard cheeses and several different fresh, but never curds. This will be a fun one to try because I definitely have my eye on the caramel sauce. I'm pretty sure I need that in my life. 😁 Thanks for another excellent lesson, Ms. R!

What a beautiful way of life and family! I grew up in small town WV, raising gardens and canning, so I know how to do that much, and I'm thankful for that, but watching you and your family makes me wish that I had known so much more then!! I so very much enjoy your videos and your knowledge!! ❤

I really love your videos, Ruth Ann! I have a huge curiosity and so I get mentally involved in many things even though I won't ever need or use them. I will never make cheese curds because I'm allergic to the protein in milk, but it's fun to watch. It relaxes me and quiets my mind.

I will be using your line in the future…”I clean up 100% of my messes, so it is ok.” 😂😂😂 So do I. Some days are messier than others. Many thanks for explaining what you can add to make the cheese if you do not have access to raw milk. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge with us. I appreciate it so much!!
