Luckily, homemade play dough is fron ingredients found in the cupboard, just like making dough, so no issue, just food coloring added, and cream of tar tar I believe. Yes: 1 cup all-purpose flour 1 cup water 2 teaspoons cream of tartar 1/3 cup salt 1 tablespoon vegetable oil food coloring My mom would let us each pick our color. On rainy days It kept the 5 of us busy... loved those days with warm soft playdough...
Woke up this morning and realized it was Saturday, yay. Then remembered the Zimmerman's were on TH-cam, yay. Then watching the boys play with flour, such a good morning

Liked your term "harvested" no explanation needed. I grew up on what would be called today as farmette. Parents were both brought up on farms (dairy). My mom was raised Mennonite, Pennsylvania Dutch, not related to amish or old order as yourself. Dad was first German generation born in the United States. Parents had chickens and harvested them too. Lots of crops, regular garden and a patch garden that was near the house. Fruit trees... many different types of apples, pears, peaches, plums. Blueberries and raspberries. Nut trees pecan, almond and hazelnut. Lots of canning and freezing. Myself and siblings were all expected to pull the weeds. Truly nice to see you bringing up your children with establishing skills to provide for themselves and generosity to share with others. I truly wish I could have brought my own up as I myself was. Too many of us just take it all for granted, never feeling that accomplishment.
This brings back memories of my mom making huge amounts of egg noodles for our family of 12. 😊 My dad made kind of a picnic table where we could all sit together and Mom would cover it with drying noodles. Ironing pasta sounded bizarre at first but it makes sense when you think about it. My mom just fan-folded the dough and cut it by hand: no pasta machine or pasta cutter. My son had ducks for a while and their eggs were great. I forget why, but eventually they all had to go to freezer camp. Love your kids. First guy is such a good helper, and Mr. Moustache is a hoot! I love Hadassah's name, how beautiful and strong it is. Thank you so much for this video. Subscribing.

Your videos are always a flippin’ Masterclass! I’m a grandma and clearly I’ve not paid attention to all the cool life skills out there. I’m actually a little grieved about it. But now I’m showing things to my grandkids and they think I’m so smart. I plageraize your homemaking hacks, RuthAnn. Shamelessly. 😂 I do see what you’re doing there, though. When those kids work alongside you, you can see right away what kind of dumb things someone (like me) might do at home so you can adjust your explanations and descriptions! Genius. 🥰 That whole spaghetti thing is fantastic. We tried it with ‘fresh’ noodles from a bougie market. ‘‘Twas a hit. I’m so clever. 😉
Ruthann, you are so fun to watch with your children. It brings back memories to this Grandma! Thank you for sharing. That smokeless fire pit is the best. I've always hated campfire smoke as it always comes to me. What a nice company with beautiful accessories!
I read in an old timers cook book to put them in paper bags in serving size quantities and hang in the attic to dry and store them that way. Thanks for sharing.
I love watching the boys helping - even with clean-up! I love all your tricks and tips too. I have never seen the iron trick before. I just made some gluten free egg noodles and they turned out great. Now I want to make a huge batch to iron and dry.
You mentioned that you had wrapped your dough in a plastic bag to rest and develop gluten. Pam over at RoseRed Homestead just did a very interesting segment on the cleanliness and environmental impact of plastic bags vs other alternatives. Worth watching. Thanks for the videos; I know they take time and effort. You are appreciated!
Wow that’s a cool tip with ironing the dough! I never knew that it needed to dry first before being cut. Always thought it was such a pain to make because of the cutting process and how sticky it would get. I’ll have to give it a try and fry it out first. ❤
❤Great presentation today Ruthanne...you do a marvelous job with your children, patiently teaching them and allowing them to be involved in your work. Those boys! Oh my heart! I raised 5 girls and 9 boys, and oh, the memories! ❤ All grown up and now 14 grands and 1 great grands.
I love finding extras the hens like to hide. I usually make cakes but I'm gonna try these
I might be wrong, but I think it was ducks?
I love the little boys wanting to help out in the kitchen 🥰
Dave should do on your farewell tidings every time!! Love the donkeys 🫏 ❤
I think Hosanna passed away a few months back. I worry about Dave because the cows bully him. He seems lonely.
😥
This is how children learn to cook and participate in family responsibilities.
There's a video on YT on making a manual jar vacuum tool, using the the tool for bleeding air from brake lines. I use mine a lot.
Hey ol’ pal!
I used to chat with you on Instagram!
I haven’t watched your videos in a while, but I caught this one today. It’s so lovely to hear your familiar and friendly voice and see your sweet family!
PLUS the info on ducks and the recipe! haha
Thanks for sharing such a peaceful home and good food!
Bless you sis!
“Angel food cake is made out of egg whites??”… That was my favorite part. Kid looks excited for some cake!
I do see what you’re doing there, though. When those kids work alongside you, you can see right away what kind of dumb things someone (like me) might do at home so you can adjust your explanations and descriptions! Genius. 🥰
That whole spaghetti thing is fantastic. We tried it with ‘fresh’ noodles from a bougie market. ‘‘Twas a hit. I’m so clever. 😉
Love the little guy with the white mustache! He kept me laughing! Kids make life complete and are such a gift from God
I love the way you interface with your children and I believe in the way you are teaching them…
My favorite part was how you included your kids! What a beautiful video!
I"ve jumped immediatelly as soon as I was notified!! LOOOOVE your videos!
Yay! Thank you!
Kendrick just loves to smile and he makes me smile along with him. Gorgeous kids and such a help to their mum.
I must have missed it, but new outdoor kitchen/eating area is beautiful
Thank you!!!! It’s not completely done yet. But I have footage to show the process
Agreed!
I love the “hoof-tah”. I flashed back to my grandma. 🥰
Ruthann, you are so fun to watch with your children. It brings back memories to this Grandma! Thank you for sharing. That smokeless fire pit is the best. I've always hated campfire smoke as it always comes to me. What a nice company with beautiful accessories!
Aww, your little son had me laughing. He’s so cute with the flour on his face.
I read in an old timers cook book to put them in paper bags in serving size quantities and hang in the attic to dry and store them that way. Thanks for sharing.
😮
Love the helpers and bare footing in the garden... grounding.😅
I love watching the boys helping - even with clean-up! I love all your tricks and tips too. I have never seen the iron trick before. I just made some gluten free egg noodles and they turned out great. Now I want to make a huge batch to iron and dry.
I could watch you and your family all day. You all just seem to truly enjoy each others company.
What a delight to see your little one goofy off in the camera. Just love it❤️❤️❤️
Wow that’s a cool tip with ironing the dough! I never knew that it needed to dry first before being cut. Always thought it was such a pain to make because of the cutting process and how sticky it would get. I’ll have to give it a try and fry it out first. ❤
Yes I never knew it had to be dryer before cutting.
This has to be one of my all time favorite videos of yours! Love seeing the boys help and being in the garden. Do a garden video, pleeeease!!
❤Great presentation today Ruthanne...you do a marvelous job with your children, patiently teaching them and allowing them to be involved in your work. I'm a grandmother now and watching you reminds me why we have our children when we are young..I've slowed down!! I remember your energy, I was once full off energy like you...but now watching you makes me tired . 😅 37:01
Ditto!
Have been cooking/baking forty + years and am still finding sensible kitchen shortcuts and tips from you. Thanks so much!
My husband grew up old order Mennonite in Iowa too! He would be absolutely tickled if I made some homemade egg noodles.
I used a pasta maker like the one you have there UNTIL I WAS BLESSED WITH THE KITCHENAID PASTA ATTACHMENT! That thing is AMAZING!
But then you don't need to let the kids help. And it's noisy rather than peaceful.
You are a very wise mom! I am a boy mom, and I LOVE seeing your little boys in the kitchen! They are learning so many life skills and having fun, too, as they learn the value of work as part of life, not just a chore. And they make me laugh!
This was so much fun,& informative to watch your family all pitch in to help make the noodles !! Thank you for this wonderful video instruction. My farm school stayed with some Mennonites in the Shenandoah valley in Virginia… back in the 70’s … lovely hospitable folks,& I have great memories of that visit !!
“So this is our second bed full of pasta” lol😂
☺️☺️☺️
Ruthann your little boys are adorable. Love Harrison and how fast he was going dealing the jars lol
Those boys just crack me up! There's nothing like being a "boy mom"! Those noodles look wonderful! I can't do pasta without something green on the side though.
You have such a beautiful family! And you are teaching them such incredible skills! Thank you for teaching us too!
Oh my lord! That’s a BIG bunch of dough! 😅
Good little kiddo, Oh you grin alike, God love y’all. Wonderful to see your boys and daughter contributing to prepping food. Amazing
The play dough on the noodles had me laughing
I find play dough in lots of places as well ❤
Love the boys helping, and your patience with boys being boys! So glad I started my day with this video! 😊
I’m glad you’re here!!!
You’re such a calm cool mom!!!
I think you have a beautiful family, those 3 “little” boys are almost too sweet that I can hardly stand it!
