    Great series! Give Croc Bridge another try - admittedly not great nightly bush sounds but game viewing there is great, in August at least, also good chance of seeing cheetah, and also a good camp to start or end with. And also give the braai another go - with wood!

    Brilliant series, It's really whet our appetite for our upcoming trip in Oct/ Nov 2024. Hopefully we've got our timing right for lots of sightings and many more birds too. Great videography really brought the Kruger to life. Nice to get the insights to the various camps you stayed at - the accomodation at Shimuwini looked fabulous, also Talamati looked really nice too. When we were last in Kruger in 2018 we stayed 3 nights at Berg en Dal and saw so, so many rhino - they still had their horns back then - bit sad to see them all dehorned nowadays but needs must in order to protect these wonderful beasts from the evil poachers. Thanks again for your hard work putting these videos together 😄😄😄 I've had a few goes myself and fully appreciate the time and effort you must have invested in your work. Cheers, Steven

    • @oldcodgerwithacamera
      @oldcodgerwithacamera  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Many thanks for your appreciation especially of the effort it takes to produce these videos. October and November are probably the best time for sightings as the bush will be quite sparse and the migrant birds will be arriving. Agree about the rhinos, it was quite shocking to see them freshly dehorned but what I didn't realise until later is that the horns grow back and once they get rounded off a bit they don't look as bad. I guess though, at some point, they will have to be dehorned again. Have a great trip.

Best is always to enter through the south as you did, spend the first 2 days getting to punda and the slowly work your way to the south as the sun will be mostly on your back and you will see much more. ps I braai twice a week, and the trick is to never use charcoal :-)

      Thanks for the compliments! I guess a few things must have changed in the last 30 years? Not the animals (although, presumably, more rhinos) but the infrastructure and, perhaps, there were less visitors? It was only in the last 5 years that we discovered Kruger and have been hooked ever since. In the days of mortgages and bring up a family we could never have afforded it but it's now getting more and more expensive each year so at some point we will have to just rely on memories like you. Glad you enjoyed the videos.

      Long story. I’d always wanted to go on a safari since I was 15 but it was way out of reach then and seemed to be until a few years ago. In 2017 we found a very cheap ‘repositioning’ cruise going from Cape Town to Venice. We love Venice so booked this and thought ‘What can we do in South Africa before the cruise?’. Started looking at things to do and came across a 10 day guided tour of the Kruger. Booked that and fell in love! Realised that we could easily do the Kruger as a Self-drive and went back again and again. Current series from earlier this year is our fifth visit. Only started making videos a couple of years ago and A Month in the Kruger was the first time I set off specifically to try and make a video series.

    Wow, that series was awesome to watch. Thank you for uploading your adventures! 🤩 We've also been to Kruger last year, but in July, so I watched this and always thought, haha, only a few weeks before we drove these roads. We only had 8 fantastic days in KNP and stayed (in perimeter bungalows or riverview tent) at B'n'D, Lower Sabie, Satara and Orpen before we headed for the Northern Sabi Sand because of the leopard density there. In fact we wouldn't have needed to go there as we already had 5 leopards (my absolute favourites) in KNP 😂. You had so many amazing sightings and I'm a bit jealous you've been there again since. But I'm going back to Botswana in July, so I can't really complain 😊. Looking forward for your next videos and by the way, my first self-drive trip to KNP was also in 2017... 😂

    Nice to see thank you. We planning a trip to Berg en Dal later this year. We have always gone up north to Letaba, Satara & Orpen. First time to Berg en Dal, sounds like a good area to see Animals & a nice Camp. Did you enjoy your time there?

    • @oldcodgerwithacamera
      @oldcodgerwithacamera  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I like Berg en Dal as a camp, it's completely different and the scenery is some of the best in the park. We've never had much success with sightings on the main road approach to the camp or the gravel roads which go up into the mountains but the nearby waterhole can be great and many people have reported leopards in the area especailly when you get on to the S25. I recently read a trip report from someone staying at Berg en Dal who saw leopards every day for ten days in a row but we have never been that lucky!

    Hi , just watched the last episode & really enjoyed the whole series. You stuck to what is the most important for real wildlife travelers , accommodation , the various camps & of course roads traversed . We have never been to the northern parts of the Kruger so it was great to get some insights into that part for a future journey . Enjoyed that you identified the birds in particular , I'm not a birder but interested in what species is seen. We went in Sept/Oct & although from South Africa it was a bit to hot even for us but we did however see a lot of animals , in fact in 8 days we saw the big 5 three times & wild dogs which we have never seen before . Hope you surviving the cold UK weather & look forward to your next visit in 18 months . Thanks for sharing your lovely experiences

    Just discovered your great Kruger videos! What zoom do you mainly use? We are headed there in Sept on self-drive and want to make sure which zoom range works best …. Thanks! Cliff

      Many thanks. Video is filmed with a Canon M50 with 50-200mm lens and stills with a Canon 7D Mk II with a Sigma 150-600mm lens.

    Thank you very much for this great series. It felt like a month in the Kruger for my husband and me. We visited the park about a month after you, from 26 June to 24 July 2022(Punda Maria, Shingwedzi, Mopani, Letaba, Tambotie, Skukuza). We were fortunate with wonderful sightings, even four sightings of cheetahs. I have a puzzling question for you. You were in the park for 32 days and paid around R25500. How did you managed that? We were in the park for 24 nights and paid R32000. We booked the BG2 bungalows and CCT2 tents where possible. We had a Wildcard,which I am sure you bought as well. Anyway, I hope you will enjoy your next visit. We are planning to go to KNP sometimes soon. Fanie and Elna JvR. (Zambia)

      Many thanks for your appreciation. I don't recall mentioning the cost of the trip (I may have forgotten and I don't want to watch every video again!). If you can give me a clue as to where that figure was mentioned I'll check it out and get back to you.

      Crikey, that was well spotted! There were two bookings, one for May and one for June. The one you can see at R25500 is the May booking for 15 nights. The total cost for the 32 nights was R52237 so a fair bit more than you paid but the accomodation was generally 3 bed units and there were a couple of more expensive camps.

      Several cameras. GoPro Hero 5 mounted on the windscreen which is voice controlled so I don't have to touch it, DJI Pocket 2 for speaking to camera and side shots, Canon M50 for most of the wildlife videos and a Canon 7D MkII with Sigma 150-600mm lens for still photography.

      Can't do anything about the ads but monetising will only make it worse.

      @@oldcodgerwithacamera but it would help you to do an earlier trip than you hoped for and viewers don't mind, really. I remember when the ground hornbill was so Endangered that Ondestepoort took an egg out of the nests leaving one chick to hatch. When hatched they had a puppet hornbill feed it. That way they managed to get the numbers up.
