So what do you do when you reach the big 7 - 0? Learn something new, that's what. I could sit about and join the local Soup and Pudding Club (that's the equivalent of the Darby and Joan Club in England) but I really don't want to die that soon. I have been a photographer for many years but have never made any videos so now's the time. Starting off with a trip to the Lake District we'll see where this takes me.
A few years later .... we fell in love with the Kruger National Park in South Africa and I decided to take a video camera with the specific intention of making videos for TH-cam. I wasn't sure that my vision of allowing the viewer to see through my eyes would work. TH-cam is, after all, based on personality - look at me! - or education - I know something you don't - but I just made the videos I wanted to make and I'm astonished at how successful they've been. There's a place for the old codgers it seems!
Thank you to all who watch and especially to all who leave a comment.

Join me as I attempt to finish Wainwright’s Outlying Fells some 40 years after finishing the 214 main summits. Wainwright did say the Outlying Fells were for ‘old-timers’ so I guess I now qualify!
On today’s walk I tackle a rather strange walk that doesn't go anywhere near a fell, even Wainwright himself says 'This isn't fellwalking' but it is a pleasant walk through woodland that ended in a near disaster!

great one to end the day
It is so rear to see an elephant with such huge tusks. It's worth the whole trip
Did you notice the tusker on the video? Those were massive
I've never seen such huge hoards of baboons.
It has been another wonderful series. Nature has a mind of it's own. unpredictable at any given moment.
very helpful
Glad it helped. Thanks for watching.
Beautiful discovery to your channel thank you for the sharing 👍 👍
Thanks for watching, much appreciated.
The leopard pics are amazing.
... and the leopard herself was amazing! Thanks for watching.
Thanks for taking us on your drive
My pleasure!
An awesome episode again. Well captured
Thanks again.
You've got a good lens there. Good photos
Thanks for watching, pleased you appreciate thed photos.
Very cool. Thx from Oregon USA!
Thanks for watching!
I hate artificial music with nature with a passion
Would you prefer I left on the original sound so you could hear all of the car engines at the sightings?
Your video was truly beautiful and inspiring. As a fellow creator, I appreciate the effort you put into it. Sub and 👍3
Thanks and welcome.
Love to see the brotherhood of these lions.
Yes, it's amazing how they interact with each other.
"Black hole square"? Did I get it right? Never heard it before. Walking from downtown to Campo de Ourique is quite the distance but passing through some interesting spots. Good video with good tips. Hope you had a good time in Lisbon.
Black Horse Square due the statue in the centre. Maybe it's just the English being too lazy to pronounce Praça do Comércio! It certainly was a long walk to Campo d'Ourique, and all uphill, but we got to see some beautifully tiled buildings that we would otherwise have missed. We're going back to Lisbon (on a cruise) in December and we'll visit some of the places we missed. It's a beautiful city and we'll have to book a week there at some point. Thanks for watching.
funny i just did this fell saturday gone.. went up whin rigg and illgill round burnmoor tarn onto it... lovely area... did ya pick up irton pike while you were in the area.. nice easy stroll up the forest... thanks for sharing, tek care lad :)
The Burmoor Tarn approach semed to be better to me, is there a path? Irton Pike was one I did about four years ago when I also picked up the Circuit of Devoke Water. I actually filmed that one with a GoPro but for some reason the sound was messed up so much of the footage is unsuable. Thanks for commenting.
Monkeys are the reason the fridge is inside
absolutely cracking video we will be there in May and will enjoy using your guidance on our day
Glad it was helpful. One update is that Hagia Sofia now charge a whopping €25 entry and you can't even go into the ground floor where I went so, maybe, just watch the video again! At the moment all the other mosques are still free.
Sintra is a must visit if your going to Lisbon for 3 days or more. Take 1 day for Sintra. eat in the town square. the must see attraction is The garden de Regularia. take the 45 minute train from the main station, around 7 euro each way.
Absolutely agree. We'll visit the Garden de Regularia next time we get to Lisbon. Just love the city and will certainly go again.
useful nice video. thank you
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching.
Loved all your videos! Thanks so much for sharing your lovely adventures!
Glad you like them! Thanks for watching.
When are you going to do more filming in the Kruger as I love the Kruger videos that you did.
There will be more Kruger videos but it is getting more and more expensive to get over there. At the moment we are planning to go back next year possibly in late August but it might be later depending on finances. If I could I'd go two or three times a year! Believe me we are more frutstrated than you are! Thanks for your interest and your patience.
Very nice. What a magic place
Magic and addictive! Can't wait to go back.
Good camp. Very nice sightings.
Every camp has its own unique points. Letaba is good but I'm not sure which is my favouirite.
Magic. Amazing sightings. The lions, wow. Can't wait to get back there
Yes, that was a special day!
That's where we plan to start our 11 day tour of the south. We were there years in 2017, seems to have grown
It's a good base with the opportunity to go north as well as south. You'll enjoy it.
You are brave !! 😊
Just got to give it a go! Even if I fail at least I'll know I tried.
What an ignorant coarse man. Lies galore. The walk from port is not unpleasant at all and he says Not much to do in Gibraltar! Beaches, cable car, caves, siege tunnels, world war 2 tunnels, museum, light house, castle, botanic garden, duty-free shops, northern defences, restaurants, pubs, art galleries, marina's and views to Africa. Plus his camera is out of focus all the time.
Cheers cracking info
Pleased it helped. Thanks for watching.
enjoyed that lad.. nice graphics with the route description, am not clever enough to do that.. did ya see the horses on flat fell.. was about a douzen on there when i was up recently.. good stuff, tek care :)
Thanks for watching, Dave. Sadly I didn't see any ponies, I think the sound of me gasping for breath might have frightened them away!
Love these beautiful side streets of Valletta. Thanks! 😊
It's a beautiful city indeed!
Fascinating
Thanks for watching.
If we purchase tickets I advance, do we also wait in that line?
Buying tickets was not a problem, there was no queue there and, as far as I could see there was no 'fast entry' gate. Once inside everbody ends up climbing the same stairs so I don't see any advantage in buying tickets in advance although there might be times when the ticket office is busy so it could save a little time.
What a wonderful two videos I did two fords trips on p&o ❤❤
Thank for watching, glad you enjoyed them.
I don’t believe the comment it was another named ship. I went on it’s sister ship and this has always been a Fred Olsen ship, it was over ten years ago.
I've checked and it was indeed originally the Crown Odyssey built in 1988 for Royal Cruise Line. In 1989 it was sold to Norwegian where it operated as Crown Odyssey until 1996 when it was renamed Norwegian Crown. Fred Olsen bought it in 2006 and renamed it Balmoral.
Well done, great video! Thank you from a new subscriber!
Many thanks for watching!
Thank you your video was great! I would love to do this tour. What is the approximate time it took to tour both places?
We left the ship about 8 am and walked to the train station at Messina to catch the 09:15 train and were in Taormina by about 10:15. Had about 4 hours in Taormina which was plenty and caught the 14:28 train back which got to Messina at 15:36 so that gave us a couple of hours in Messina. The cruise port in Messina is very close to the town so you can judge your time in Messina depending on your all aboard time. Thanks for watching.
Thank you for this video ! Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
My wife and I love the always-relaxing style of music and your way, which comes with age, as you take us on your unpretentiously prepared adventures. Thanks for doing what you do!
Thanks, your words are much appreciated. When I started doing these videos I didn't think they would be at all successful as nearly all travel type videos on You Tube are by young people saying 'Look at me' and that's not my style. They seem to have found an audience though and I've been astonished at how many views I've had and the number of subscribers. Quite unexpected! There will be more Kruger adventures in the latter part of next year but in the meantime I've got a few Lake District walking videos coming and maybe a bit more cruising. Hang on till next year if that's not your thing!
Thanks!
Thank you so much! I'm pleased you enjoyed the video.
Amazing video. Loved the camera angles on the metro escalators. Thanks !!
Wrong video? Presumably you mean Naples which has some amazing metro stations. Thanks for watching.
How busy was the train to Taomina? Do I book them in advance? Thanks so much for such a helpful video. Loved the segment that showed pathway down to the port
Not busy at all either way, no need to book. Glad it was helpful.
Thanks, nice video.
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching.
Do you recall which ferry port you docked at on the Asian side of the city (which route you took)? We will be there next may and want to include a visit to the Asian side that is convenient from the cruise port.
We took the Dentur Avrasya ferry from Kabatas to Üsküdar. Chose this one because it runs every 10 minutes throughout the day and therefore gives plenty of opportunities to get back to the ship on time. Kabatas is a mile from Galataport heading right as you exit the port (basically straight along the main road, you can't really go wrong) or you can head left and catch a tram at Tophane to take you two stops to Kabatas.
@@oldcodgerwithacamera Thank you for the helpful information.
Thanks for posting the video. Looking at Google map, it looks like your ship was docked at the newer cruise terminal. Had it been on the older pier further out, it wouldn't have been so easy to walk into town. I've not been to Lanzarote, but friends who have been all said that Arrecife is not especially interesting; ok for a day trip from another parts of the island.
I think most ships now dock at the new terminal. I'm glad I'm not the only one who wasn't enthralled with Arrecife!
I have never found Arrecife as bad as your making it out to be and always spend sometime there when on island. Guess you should have done some research before you went. Also you are giving the wrong impression of the bus service as other lines are much more frequent than the one you chose and I find the bus service excellent compared to some places. Most people wouldn’t take the bus to visit places such as this in Lanzarote as car hire is reasonable and may be better option if ship was in port for most of day.
Congrats, I enjoyed it 👏
Thank you, I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
would love to go to Tenerife to climb Teide.. scared of flying so a ship might be the answer haha.. nice video and channel, very down to earth, tek care lad :)
We used to go to Tenerife every Christmas and I’ve climbed Teide six times. It’s quite easy although the one time when I sprained my ankle at the top and took about six hours to hobble down wasn’t fun! Those were the days and now I’m huffing and puffing up the Outlying Fells! Just come back from two weeks at Ulpha and Finsthwaite and managed to bag 26 of the tops and I’m determined to do the rest before I get the Zimmer frame. I’ll be posting videos of my exploits but by the time they’re ready you’ll have them done and dusted.
@@oldcodgerwithacamera think I'll be doing the ulpha fells next saturday.. I'd be tempted to take the cable car to teide but would like to do it from the very bottom atleast once.. I hear you need a permit to get to the summit
Thank you very much for this video. It's very helpful. I have a few questions if you wouldn't mind. How did you finally end up finding the bus stop in Kusadasi? Were you concerned at all with the schedule and timing of the return bus? My concern would be not knowing if the return bus has an erratic schedule or if it sometimes does not show up thus we would miss boarding our cruise. Did you happen to look into take the bus on to Mother Mary's house?
It’s a bit difficult to give you instructions here on how to find the bus stop but here is a link to a map I’ve created that you should be able to download drive.google.com/file/d/1-RZOpdioXUz_ZOAO4I48WcPgzUeGQ1Oj/view?usp=sharing If you have your own mapping app (or Google maps) the GPS co-ordinates are 37.85650, 27.26387. It's a 1 km walk and should take about 20 minutes. The buses run almost continuously throughout the day about every 10 to 15 minutes in summer and 15 to 20 minutes in winter so I wasn’t worried at all about getting back although it was a late departure with all aboard at 19:30. We had time to go back to the ship, grab a bite to eat and then go off again for a walk to Pigeon Island. Being very generous if you allowed and hour and a half each way and three hours at Ephesus that’s six hours overall and if you got off by 8 am (always be one of the first off!) you’d be back by 2 pm. As far as I am aware there is no public transport to Mother Mary’s house so you’d have to take a taxi. Hope that helps. Let me know if the link works or doesn’t.
Thanks Old Codger! This is exactly the sort of video I was looking for.
Glad it was helpful!
