Prelude to a Pastoral Afternoon (Prélude à l'après-midi d'un faune), composed by French composer Debussy, the originator of modern ‘impressionist’ music, is considered Debussy's first representative impressionist work and one of his most popular masterpieces. Inspired by the poetry of his friend Stephen Mallarmé, Debussy created this dreamlike symphonic poem with exotic melodies and elusive harmonies, thus ushering in a whole new era in the vast history of music.
