It's logical for such a video to be made. The seminal Wolf 3D and the monolithic DOOM series have already been covered. Surely the standard for all true 3D FPS should next be explored.
Finally, a video that isn't about a specific character or game from a series that already had to many videos., And it's also not a Nintendo series as well. I want more of this DYKG, where there's more variety and things don't feel too samey.
Sniff Sniff Did you know? DYKG recently released five videos in a row on Crash Bandicoot, Tekken, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Pepsi Man, and Katamari Damacy? I get that they do a lot of Nintendo stuff (I'll grant that the last 5 were of Nintendo exclusive stuff, 2 of which were Smash Bros, and that's kinda weird), because, let's face it, it's easier to do, and it gets a lot of views, but let's not act like that's all they do.
I definitely second Fact Hunt, Larry puts a lot of effort into research that most other video series don't(not to knock DYKG, either). Larry being fairly older and British also makes him more experienced with a gaming scene that was pretty different to America's or Japan's in the 80's, which I think adds to the uniqueness of his series.

Awesome video DKYG. Those were some mind-blowing facts. Also how the hell did I never heard about that Wolfenstein web browser port?! John Carmack is a programming GOD
1:41 It should be "Dolchteufel", not "Dolchteuful". Additionally, "Geruchschlecht" makes no sense, it should be "schlechter Geruch" instead. "Shattensendener" is also wrong, it should be "Schattensendner". German fails :P
It should also be noted that "Nein, so was!" does not really translate to "Well, I'd never!". It would rather be something along the lines of an awkward "Well, I'd never have thought!", but more like: "No, who would have thought?!" or shortest and in my opinion most accurate: "No, that's something!", an expression of surprise. Guess getting shot can be surprising, but as a death scream it's kinda funny: "Well shit, now I'm dead. Who'd have thought that would happen today! Just great!"
Maybe the typos were on purpose? Like WW2 soldiers talking mediocre to bad German in old movies? Or bad spelling in wartime Bugs Bunny cartoons... And the developers kept this up in later titles? "Behold das Ubersoldat?"
+Awesome Puranichu It's the new TH-cam system that everyone is currently up in arms about. Basically, people are losing their monetization for anything "offensive" that isn't "advertiser friendly". Basically, you aren't allowed to make videos that depict violence, hate, death, blood, gore, and whatever choice of possibly offensive thing you can think of. This shows violence, blood, gore, nazi symbolism, and I'm sure some other things. Therefore, not advertiser friendly. If you want more info, there's no shortage of content creators talking about it. But hey, advertisers these days are choosing morals over money, I for one think that's amazing! A successful business is one that doesn't stoop to trying to market their product to everyone they can. It's better to just keep your business as obscure as possible, too much money could corrupt them. I could come up with a ton of sarcastic "these businesses are idiots for not wanting to actually market a product over a few red pixels," but I think I'll stop there, you get the point.
Swastikas and Horst Wessel lied = big nono, and TH-cam will demonetize you if it's your video. Which can be really annoying for history videos. TH-cam cannot tell the difference between a Neo-Nazi recruitment video and a video on the history of WW2, lol.
4:48 This was actually semi true. Not all Germans were Nazis but they changed up the social structure of the entire country to the point where it seemed like every German WAS a Nazi, to the point where the greeting amongst casual people was saying Heil you know who.
And don't forget the great-grand daddy: Midi Maze. Who is also the grand daddy of LAN FPS games. Or Ad-Hoc if you wanna be technical about the term "LAN".
Quite the nostalgia trip for me looking at this. Wolfenstein 3D was a game of my childhood, teenage years, and college years. I'll always love the original 6 episodes!

Use of Nazi symbols is NOT forbidden in "popular culture" in Germany. Movies are for example absolutely no problem, be it entertainment or historic purposes. Fuck, those movies even get rated with child appropiate ratings, like the Indiana Jones movies. Comics CAN show Nazi symbols, but it's a bit more problematic, see for example the struggle with "Maus". Videogames however are not recognized as an art form. As thus, they don't enjoy special protection and the inclusion of Nazi symbols makes selling of these games within Germany.. let's say tricky. Silent Hunter 4 for example had to be called back because they forgot to edit ONE Swastika in the manual. Games like Call of Duty get notoriously censored in that one regard over here and in the later iterations of Wolfenstein you don't fight Nazis in the german version, but rather a fanatic group called "The Wolves" (even though of course everybody here knows they're Nazis). But the statement that Nazi symbols can't be shown in any popculture is flatout wrong guys.
