Bethesda botched the audio mixing on the game's official soundtrack, so now the composer is considering leaving the series. Also, I want the original 264 bpm soundtrack to be released.
@inyrui 1) Most of the other comments I've seen don't give enough detail and/or give inaccurate detail 2) Maybe the reason so many people are commenting about this is because Bethesda is a terrible company and not only was this a shitty thing to do, but their actions could have major consequences on the franchise going forward. Therefore, making sure people know about it and complain to Bethesda seems like a pretty high priority.
I thought this was just that files were very compressed, not that they messed with em? His issue was them not asking before hand to do so resulting in losing octaves and such. Making it sound poor quality.
He's not leaving the series. That was from an easily edited screenshot from some random Twitter account. If anything big like that was happening, Mick would've tweeted it directly
The funny part is they came in and basically told Mick Gordon they wanted a grindcore sound track then backed out when a very small group of people said they didn't like it. Like what the hell?
The problem was 2016's multiplayer wasn't up to id softwares quality the devs misunderstood we want it made better not to erase tdm ctf etc battlemode gets boring after a short time, battlemode isn't good enough or varied enough, I've seen majority of doom fans complain about battlemode
actually, turns out Mick was focusing on the ambient songs first and no combat tracks for the OST, so the lead audio engineer had to step to deliver on the combat songs that fans would be disappointed to not have. Marty explained this all on reddit. deadlines suck and art snowballs on you.
I still have not played any Doom game ever but the way the company researched how they’re previous game did from the fans POV and the fact that they went back and played they’re old games was very impressive
I’m really happy they found the identity of the series and DONT always have to stick with realism but consistency which makes me love it when a game can tell a narrative and also be itself
It’s really cool to see how the developers actually listened to the reception/criticism they got, their receptiveness to the players reactions is probably why the game is as good as it is
I waited a year and a half for Doom Eternal and it did not disappoint. I love it even more than 2016 and I loved that one. The combat is so visceral and I love the art direction of Eternal. The meat hook and dash were brilliant additions.
There's another dopefish Easter egg hidden on the side of a cliff. I believe it's after you enter hell. It's a breakable wall and dopefish's face is sticking through it. I believe you get an achievement for finding it.

I never realised how influencial Nick was to these games outside just the music. You can tell he was really passionate, making his own language true to the lore, thinking about the players and interacting with the community via streams and covers. Nick is a staple in Doom, so we better hope he doesn't leave.
After finishing doom 2016 my initial thoughts as the credits scrolled were: this doesn't feel like a game that came from a corporation like a cachgrab like assassins creed. This felt like a passion project and produced with love from people that cared. If those were my thoughts the second i finished the game then they're doing something right
It's inspiring to see all the thought and heart that was put into Doom Eternal. They actually listened to player feedback and tried to make something fans wanted. They didn't throw out many good parts of the original game, it's still got the same spirit. They kept what made it good and improved it to be arguably more Doom than the original Doom is. It's 666% Doom. I wish the Shadow Warrior remakes could have been a similarly inspiring story...
@@xAquae It was confirmed on Twitter by Gordon himself. Some tracks he produced and other tracks he did not. There is also some other instances where he didn't have control either. And, yes, he did not appear happy in either of the instances where I saw what he wrote.

I never got into the multioplayer in any latest Doom titles, and I know Battle Royale modes are pretty much dead, but I would have loved to see Slayer/Sentinels Versus Demons mode that ties into the story, that would have been pretty awesome, especially if we can use those giant mechsuits against those Hellish Titans!
I think any complaints about 2016 being boring came from casual gamers who usually play open world games and whatnot. If you play Doom, you're playing it for horde shooting. The latter half of 2016 is the best part! Some of those fights are nuts! Not to mention the introduction of bosses. And even then, it wasn't completely one note. There was searching and navigating, soaking in the atmosphere, climbing and platforming, and incidental hallway combat connecting the big arenas. If 2016 is one note, what the hell would these people think of the original??
@@RacingSnails64 Ehh not really. I also am a fan of the fast-paced FPS genre. While I personally am not too familiar with the classic arena shooters like original doom or quake, I love games like Titanfall 2 and call of duty(when played with rush-heavy style), and I'm quite confident enough to say that I am fairly skilled and dedicated at the genre. With that being said, DOOM 2016 didn't really blow me away. There just wasn't much that it offers when it comes to variety and challenges. Yeah, sure things you listed are there, like exploring and atmosphere, but there are games that do those things far better than DOOM 2016 and even if they were top-notch, I personally value gameplay way more when it comes to games like DOOM. Gameplay-wise, it's super great. For a single-player game. While it solves a lot of modern single-player FPS cliches and generic gameplay, most of the fights still can be handled with few simple strategies that you get to form just by playing a few hours without giving much thought to it(though I do agree boss fights give you some variety and a reason to develop new strategies even if it's for just that single fight). It's especially problematic when multi-player games are the norm nowadays and people are used to fighting opponents who are equally skilled or better than you which naturally leads to players having to adapt and develop new strategies. (Note: I'm not saying single-player games are pointless, I'm just pointing out the fact that it's much more easier to make multi-player games feel more dynamic than single-player games.) For the same reason, I am in love with DOOM Eternal. I am constantly thinking of what I need to do to overcome the situation. Not only that, even after beating the whole game multiple times, I still get to learn new tricks and strategies, making even the same fight feel different. Just the Master Level version of Super Gore Nest alone, my playstyle has changed so much trying to beat it, then trying to beat it more efficiently. All that being said, I'm not saying you enjoying the game thoroughly without feeling repetition is a bad thing at all, since I also really enjoyed the game during my playthrough and it's a good thing that there's a game you love to play. But I don't really think it's fair to assume people who feel bored about it are not invested enough to enjoy it. So, that's my take on it. Also, games are fastly evolving media, and it's not really far-fetched to say the original is one note in today's view. Its value is greatened when compared to the peers of its time.
One fun thing you missed that is worth a mention is Mark Fischbach (Markiplier)’s dad Cliffton got his own book in the Slayer’s private quarters, as a thank you to Mark, honoring his passed father who got him into the original doom.
Reading some of the comments here Since when did a game being "too videogamey" a bad thing ? I actually like that the game doesnt take itself seriously and the overall art style.
The video game-y aspect was pretty good in both doom and doom eternal (no one alive can run jump climb or shoot as fast as Doomguy) but I think I much preferred the sci-fi and hellish atmosphere. Doom eternal requires more thought (like certain weapons being more effective and requiring a more tactical approach) aesthetically Doom 2016 looks much better to me. Meathook and headshot staggers makes the game so much more fun though. I’m not forced to just use plasma rifle on shield guys, so there’s leeway in your approaches, but again I prefer the horror and hellish atmosphere and sometimes the music of 2016 far more, even if the gameplay isn’t as bombastic or as complex. Not saying atmosphere makes the older doom better, it’s just what I value a bit more. I did play 2016 on Ultraviolence and Eternal on Nightmare but didn’t ever have problems with ammo or the marauder. I do miss being able to chainsaw Barons though, that stuff was awesome.
@@princetchalla2441regarding the weapons, sure the enemies have weakpoints that requires a specific weapon to kill them easily. But i dont think the game is forcing the player to only aim at their weaknesses all the time. You can still kill them the usual way and they don't feel like bullet sponges to me at least. Someone on another vid compared Eternal to DMC(one of my favorite game of all time) and i couldn't agree more. It gave me the same satisfaction when learning the mechanics and getting good at it.
Noctis37 ok let me rephrase, the gunplay abilities like the meathook and remote detonation let me kill the shield guys in multiple ways rather than spamming the plasma rifle, so there are multiple approaches that makes the combat more engaging. However, I prefer the Doom 2016 game for its atmosphere, music, and aesthetics.
I think Mick was being rushed to finish so someone higher up took it upon themselves to get someone else to do the mixing. You can't rush greatness and iD/Bethesda/whoever should have had some more patience.
@@bangasou12 Its actually worse than just compression. the audio quality is fine but they reduced the dynamic range so everything sounds 'sameish' on the OST volume wise on songs Mick didnt mix
I find it funny that in both Doom Eternal and Breath of the wild someone suggested "why not use the "meat/hook/shot" everywhere" and was met with "that would ruin this part of the game so no" :D both amazing games
At 11:04 as well there is a big red book on the left side (it can be seen) which says “how to comb your mustache” and that is a reference to Markipliers Father who had a great mustache.
The only problem with DOOM Eternal keeping a consistent tone is that if you were to come straight off of DOOM 2016 the tone shifts hard. So the game itself is consistent, but the universe is not, which broke my immersion pretty quickly when I started up Eternal.
THIS. I felt like I'd missed an entire chapter or something. Also, the tone of Eternal is all over the place. Sometimes it's goofy & tongu-in-cheek, & other times it wants you to take the story seriously. What a mess.
Honestly the originals are like this, too. Doom 1 was very oppressive in it's overall tone, only when hell on earth was released did they go more colorful and have varied areas, well as colorful and varied as the build engine would allow. Even the difficulty is similar; going from a somewhat easier game to flatout brutal in the sequel. Ever play plutonia experiment? Will put hair on your chest just from starting it up.
I ended up beating DOOM 2016 in preparation for DOOM Eternal, starting up the sequel pretty much the day after I finished the first one. And as someone who really, _really_ liked the tone that 2016 had, Eternal was certainly a bit of a slap in the face. At first I didn't like how everything felt more "video game-y" (brightly colored ammo pickups, your guns being spinning neon green collectibles instead of something you find lying around next to a corpse, etc), and the more blatantly humorous tone (particularly with the UAC hologram dialogue), but I brushed it off around the latter half of the game. I liked the final few levels a lot, especially the Makyr homeworld area, and the Icon of Sin was one hell of a final boss. I can only imagine what it was like for long time fans of the series to finally see the whole thing instead of it being stuck in a wall or whatever. I appreciate that Eternal wanted to appeal more to the series' roots with the general tone, as well as the demon designs, but personally I prefer 2016 for pretty much everything aside from gameplay.
Funfact about about the Daisy painting in the fortress of Doom: it was fanart done by Xous54 on Deviantart way back in 2017. It’s awesome that id included this.
You did miss one Easter egg in the books, Markiplier's father who passed away had an Easter egg in the game. I believe the book was called "How to Comb Your Moustache", and the author is his father. Mark pointed it out in one of his episodes of that playthrough. That was the only thing I noticed. Great video, keep up the great work.
One of the books is also a memorial to the TH-camr Markiplier's father, "How to Comb Your Mustache" by Clifton M. Fischbach, an awesome little easter eggs added
What was the reason to include an Easter egg to Markipliers father? Sorry I don't follow his videos or channel at all. I assume some of his videos talked about his father?
@@GoodlyPenguin I believe DOOM was the first game (or one of the first) that Mark ever played, which his dad introduced him to. The DOOM team at id must have watched his playthrough of DOOM 2016 and figured it would be neat.
Eternal is a wonderful game. However the one thing I think 2016 does better is the original demon looks, the Mancubus comes to mind. To me that was the coolest looking demon
i wish they would add a deathmatch mode, maybe having a slayer and one of each demon on each team, or have a mix of all of them on either team. battlemode is fun, but it doesn't have the same feel as some of the game modes in doom 2016
I still think a deathmatch mode where you had to fight another Slayer (or slayers) in the midst of an arena battle with demons would be really fuckin cool. You'd still have incentive to kill demons because they're your source of health and ammo, but you also have to worry about your opponent(s). It would be difficult to balance but could be a really fuckin cool gamemode
2:43 "balance" Ya, if you call making every weapon only useful against certain enemies then yeah. Doom 2016 gave you the freedom to take enemies down however you liked, Eternal's combat is lock & key
That's complete bullshit. You can use any weapon you want. If your talking about weak points, shotgun grenades and ballista bolts are alternatives to the percicison bolt so I dont understand how its lock and key when you have plenty of combat options
Yeah... 2016 was unbalanced, the super shotgun with the double tap upgrade is more than enough to get you through the second half of the game. You CAN still use the assault rifle but why the hell would you? It's fine if you prefer that kind of design, and I do love Doom 2016, but I can just turn my brain off for the last few hours even on Nightmare difficulty and honestly it's a little dull. Eternal DOES NOT require you to use certain weapons on certain enemies to succeed, but every weapon has its use, its strengths and weaknesses, just like the old games. Still not perfectly balanced by any means, but at least I still use every weapon right to the end of the game.
There were like 3 weapons in 2016 that actually did anything though. The rest were laughably ineffective, weak, lacked punch and were wasteful if you actually planned to take down any number of targets with them. Eternal ensuring you use all of your arsenal in some shape or form not only is completely sound from a game design standpoint, but the fact they are situational is 100% inline with how the arsenal in a Doom game is meant to operate. That being said, the game doesn't actively screw you over for mainlining certain weapons. Just don't blame the game for getting harder when you do it.
What I love about both games is the metal soundtrack I'm so tried of rap being in games so it was nice to hear music I love for once plus the fact the fact in was recorded here in austin tx makes it even more awesome for me
i'm pretty sure people started talking about isabelle and doomslayer being friends pretty much as soon as the rumours of doomslayer coming to smash got fairly widespread
nope. the meme started because Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing were set to be released on exactly the same day. The Smash rumors came about because of the joint release date
@@littlesnowflakepunk855 the announcement that Doom Eternal would be delayed until March 20th came on February 2nd of this year. rumours of Doomguy in smash started because an anonymous 4chan user claimed to have a leak that he'd be included, in December 2018. I don't think the memes of them together really started, however, until June 2019, because the same leak accurately predicted Dragon Quest Hero and Banjo & Kazooie, so their announcements around that time seemed to add weight to the alleged leak. also that literally makes zero sense, smash rumours don't start because nintendo games share release dates with other games, they start because people claim to have leaks.

The file leaking isn't an accident, someone at id doesn't like DRM remember Doom started as shareware.
Borderlands 3 has a doom reference as well with the hellwalker shotgun! It's pretty metal
It’s really cool to see how the developers actually listened to the reception/criticism they got, their receptiveness to the players reactions is probably why the game is as good as it is
The scene transition at 3:08 from the Marauder fight to the Slither was awesome!
I waited a year and a half for Doom Eternal and it did not disappoint. I love it even more than 2016 and I loved that one. The combat is so visceral and I love the art direction of Eternal. The meat hook and dash were brilliant additions.

I never realised how influencial Nick was to these games outside just the music. You can tell he was really passionate, making his own language true to the lore, thinking about the players and interacting with the community via streams and covers. Nick is a staple in Doom, so we better hope he doesn't leave.
F
Ah yes, Nick,
My favourite video game music composer.
Another fact: the sound track release wasn't edited by Mick Gordon, and the way it was edited vastly displeased Gordon.
This is speculation.
That sucks 😕
mick did mix a handful of tracks, but the rest were mixed by bethesda. they did so awful with them that mick might not work with them any more. :(
@@xAquae It was confirmed on Twitter by Gordon himself.

Damn, I was hoping to learn where in “The only thing they fear is you.” Mick Gordon uses the Lawnmower.
Every time I played Doom 16’ I literally never got tired or bored. Still one of my favorite game ever.
(Note: I'm not saying single-player games are pointless, I'm just pointing out the fact that it's much more easier to make multi-player games feel more dynamic than single-player games.)
For the same reason, I am in love with DOOM Eternal.
11:45 dopefish is way too creepy in 3d
I dunno it’s kinda (being a very big stretch) cute in a way
One fun thing you missed that is worth a mention is Mark Fischbach (Markiplier)’s dad Cliffton got his own book in the Slayer’s private quarters, as a thank you to Mark, honoring his passed father who got him into the original doom.
Reading some of the comments here
Since when did a game being "too videogamey" a bad thing ?

The only problem with DOOM Eternal keeping a consistent tone is that if you were to come straight off of DOOM 2016 the tone shifts hard. So the game itself is consistent, but the universe is not, which broke my immersion pretty quickly when I started up Eternal.
that's cause it's much more close to the og games.
And it took me way too long to adapt with the ammo system from 2016
I ended up beating DOOM 2016 in preparation for DOOM Eternal, starting up the sequel pretty much the day after I finished the first one.

Eternal is a wonderful game. However the one thing I think 2016 does better is the original demon looks, the Mancubus comes to mind. To me that was the coolest looking demon
I like how Animal Crossing is Eternal
I actually loved the multiplayer from 2016. I'll miss it.
Your one of a thousand
i wish they would add a deathmatch mode, maybe having a slayer and one of each demon on each team, or have a mix of all of them on either team. battlemode is fun, but it doesn't have the same feel as some of the game modes in doom 2016
I still think a deathmatch mode where you had to fight another Slayer (or slayers) in the midst of an arena battle with demons would be really fuckin cool. You'd still have incentive to kill demons because they're your source of health and ammo, but you also have to worry about your opponent(s). It would be difficult to balance but could be a really fuckin cool gamemode
i love how much love went into this game.
2:43 "balance" Ya, if you call making every weapon only useful against certain enemies then yeah. Doom 2016 gave you the freedom to take enemies down however you liked, Eternal's combat is lock & key
siskavard not as cut and dry as you make it sound. If you get good you can find there are multiple strategies for every situation.
@@RaVisions I'd agree with you if there wasn't a huge ammo restriction. So yeah, you can use whatever weapon you want - inadequately.
What I love about both games is the metal soundtrack I'm so tried of rap being in games so it was nice to hear music I love for once plus the fact the fact in was recorded here in austin tx makes it even more awesome for me

nope. the meme started because Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing were set to be released on exactly the same day.
