The game does have a few memorable moments, like when you stomp on roaches and they turn into little ghosts, or going on a boat ride with a captain who sings that bizarre "cucumber song". Personally, I never felt as if I was doing anything but passing the time.
My best friend and I used to play this when we were 11 year olds. We're now almost 16 and we just opened up this game for the first time in 4 years. We had a blast and never got bored for the five hours straight that we played it. LOL
@@sussyhamburger7 This was such a cool comment to come back to. Yes! We are both 28, still best friends, and of course visit each other's islands on New Horizons 😀 We are now teachers and she has a family, crazy how time flies!
I’ve been playing new horizons on the switch, and I really want to play this, I’ve played new leaf and I can probably say that new horizons is probably the best way to experience animal crossing, I really want to own this game and get into it but GameCube games are very expensive right now, loved your video man
I actually bought this game for my Gamecube fifteen years ago to this very day, and I've had fond memories of being able to play it just in time before the holiday season had officially started. :D
i truly enjoy animal corssing on the game cube and city folk on the Wii... such a relaxing game to sit back and enjoy for hours on end... great review and excellent production quality Snow...
HOLY ****!!! Dude you just pnwed this review in a major way. This is one of your best yet Bracey. I have never played Animal Crossing but always wanted to give it a try since I have played some of the Harvest Moon games. I for sure need to get an memory card though huh? Maybe I can find a complete copy on ebay with the memory card the game came with. Awesome review man...like seriously badass.
Yeah... This game pretty much took my life... Figuratively speaking. AGES playing it, only beaten by a few games. I had to get rid of it eventually, and I'm trying to resist getting it again. At least until I'm back in school, then I don't need my life. It's gone anyway. Awesome review yet again. This is exactly the kind of reviews I've been missing. No jokes, no acting if you even want to call it that. Just straight up about the game. Keep it up!
@NEScapades There are a handful of games you can get in the game. The memory card that came with the game gives you 2 NES games to start the game. You usually get a new one on your birthday and times that you would get presents.
LOL did you name the town? Tuna Town!! I've never played this but always wanted to because I read you could play full NES games in it. My local Kmart still has like 10-15 brand new copies of this. That's a great feature, being able to use your buddies mem card to get stuff from his town. Excellent review.
when i was really little my grandparents always looked after me when this game came out i was addicted 2 years ago i was cleaning out my room and i found my game cube i started playing it again but i was to busy in my life to play it . My grandfather lost his hearing and didn't get out much i felt so sorry for him
omg i think i can safely say that this is one of the only games that brings me a lot of nostalgic. i cant tell you how many hours i played this during the summer.
Halfway through this video I suddenly realised I'm still watching it. If that's the effect of the review no wonder people playing the game are so hooked. I'm scared to start playing this game now lol.
While I am a huge fan of the Gamecube, I somehow missed this one when it was first out and didn't get into the series until the DS game. I was reluctant to try it because I'd heard stories that if you go away for as little as a week, your town gets overrun with weeds and all the neighbors hate you. However, once I started playing, the game's charm won me over in a big way. Incidentally, if you can track down the fansub, I highly recommend you check out the Animal Crossing movie (which really, REALLY needs an international release). It's not the greatest movie, but for fans of the game or anime in general, it is very enjoyable.
I've never played an Animal Crossing game but I always hear great things about them. It might require too much time for my tastes, but it looks like it'd be pretty fun.
I had this game for years and I found it the other day, but it was too scratched to play. I bought a new copy at gamestop and I fell in love with it again! Im trying to collect kiddie furniture and my town has pears. :P
I remember back when playing Animal Crossing daily for hours on end was the only thing I could think about while I was in school. Couldn't wait to get home. Animal Crossing is a very special game that will always hold a place in my heart. There's a story behind it, but it's somewhat long. Feel free to PM me if you want to hear it, though. Subscribed to you, BTW.
@stratamaster78 Thanks Heath! Shouldn't run you more than $20 at the most for a complete copy. It's a fun game to pop in once a day or so to check on your town.
@goffmen I really need to get the Wii version sometime. I am really pumped to see the 3D one on the 3DS though! I picked one up just for that game when it comes out!
One thing I've always wondered about animal crossing is does the game actually have an ending, or is this simulator just so open ended there is really no way to end the game because there is always stuff to do.
Just bought it yesterday, CIB, for $22. CIB copies are getting harder to get, but player's choice listings are abundant on eBay. What happened to your channel? Did you sell your collection?
@ssiv226 I used to, and played it quite a bit. I did end up grabbing a copy of City Folk recently for the Wii and I've really been digging that version. My favorite one is always going to be the GC version though; it just brings back a lot of fond memories!
@xXBlueDiamondsXx Aww, sorry to hear that. It's a wonderful story though! Always great to hear when a game can be more than just a game in someone's life, and provide awesome memories.
If I buy this and play it in my wii, can I store this games memory on my SD card? I know there is one for the Wii but this one is like 6 bucks. Plus If i like it I will get the one for the DS, and then the 3DS
this was the first game i got when i got my gamecube for christmas, i played this so much im pretty sure it almost wasted as much of my life as the wind waker did. i wonder what my village is like after all this time away... i lost the disk but the memory card still exists so somewhere in the digital dimension it is out there living, with all the animals sending me mail asking where i have been.
i rented this at a game store a couple years ago, and i fell in love...but unfortunetly so did my mom...i later bought it and havent played it much cuz she plays it everyday lol
@NEScapades It's worth picking up for sure. It's also done pretty well in terms of holding it's value. I never see a copy less than $20 or so. And yeah, TunaTown is where I roll. :D
This game is so great I love it so much, the best part I loved about this game were all the NES games you could play! That part got me into retro gaming haha.
Confession: I NEVER got into AC. I purchased ACNH today, and I swear I think I missed out an amazing gem on the GC. I still have a GameCube too! Lol I’ll never sleep on Animal Crossing ever again 😭
@bunnydo22 Same here. I spent WAY too much time on this one. Funny thing is, my guy friends would be like "Hey dude what are you playing" and they always gave me this really weird look when I would say "Animal Crossing".
"Go to Nook or the terrorists win." I laughed harder at that than I should have...
retrosnow is youtube's best retro video game reviewer. hands down. keep it up. you're goin' places.
Your review is probably the one that gives this game the most justice. Good job!

I'm the same way. This came out when I was in 3rd grade and now I'm in my second year of college. SO many memories, still play it constantly
This video got me playing the game again, stated a whole new town, thanks for helping me remember what a great game this is lol!!
LOL! "Go to Nook's or the terrorists win."
Fantastic review for a highly underrated game...really brought me back with this one man :)

Oh my gosh. I knew this would bring back feelings but I clicked anyway
Yep, you're right. Not sure where I got 1999 from (getting old I guess, haha). Thanks for the heads up and correction.
@HarriHaffi Not that I'm aware of; I know it can cycle for upwards of 20 years.
I've never played an Animal Crossing game but I always hear great things about them. It might require too much time for my tastes, but it looks like it'd be pretty fun.
@TheCompletionist It doesn't really have an ending that I know of. I've heard that the game cycle can go on for about 20 years!
I had this game for years and I found it the other day, but it was too scratched to play. I bought a new copy at gamestop and I fell in love with it again! Im trying to collect kiddie furniture and my town has pears. :P

TANOOKI FOR CRYING OUT LOUD TOM NOOK IS A TANOOKI!
***** Because most people outside Japan have no idea what a tanuki is (Tanuki Mario notwithstanding). Oh well.
I've come up with something- maybe Tom Nook wears that apron to cover his...you-know-what, and he states that he's a raccoon so no one questions it.
