I was tasked with making curtains for my niece's baby's room and was asked to add three rows of ruffles to each panel. I'm not a professional sewer. I've winged pleats before but now I'm looking for a technique that will make this easy and quick and even. I think I found that technique with your tutorial. I feel like there's much more control in the spacing of the pleat using your pin method. I can "mark" my machine where the pin will go in and tuck the fabric up against that needle and that will guarantee nice, even pleats. Thank you so much for this much needed tutorial. I'm guessing to disguise frayed fabric at the top I should just make the fabric into tubes to be pleated and sew them on. When it comes to that top ruffle, they want fabric to cover the edging. I think I'll see how it looks, take a photo and send it to her, and let her make that determination at that time. Your technique might come out so clean she might want to leave it as is. So glad I found your tutorial. Thank you for sharing!

I"m 'sew' glad this helped you. It's kinda hard to visualize what you are saying, but think about this: Just fold over whatever depth you need upward of where you will be stitching so that the uppermost edge is a fold, and you are pleating doubled fabric. This is what I was doing with the silk on my daughter's wedding gown - working with a double layer. I think that will solve your problem.

Hi Londa. I just discovered your videos. You are a wonderful teacher. I was wondering if tiny pleats could be made even enough with a ruching technique to prepare a piece of fabric for smocking. I've used a pleating machine in the past, but I don't have access to one now.

Where can I find a dress pattern for a newborn baby to sew "smocking" . The only store on internet is the dress already completely done: sewing and embroidery too!

Look up Children's Corner in Nashville. This is for English Smocking.
