Hi! It's nice to meet someone else who was diagnosed at a young age. I was diagnosed at age 7. I'm 27 now so that makes almost 20 years. However my parents knew for awhile beforehand. I could "talk" by age 3 but my speech was mostly incomprehensible until I was 8 years old (I had to learn not to let my mouth hang open loosely). I took mainstream classes in school but only because the alternative was a special education class that would not have academically challenged me at all (I did need to have speech therapy, occupational therapy, and a lot of help with social situations). I had a few friends growing up, but I did not realize until I was older that the friendships were often one-sided on my part.
I had a lot of issues with one-sided friendships growing up too. I just didn't have the social skills to notice. It's led to me often being paranoid that my current friends are just pretending to be my friend.
