Great teaching, ironic the American Flag is directly behind him as he helps undo "Evangelical Patriotism".

Acute political criticism from British theologian, N T Wright, and Duke professor, Richard Hays, reminds us that Mary's Magnificant has the sentiments of a Bernie Sanders supporter!

Ok...after listening to the question n answer. These guys know as any bible scholar knows, that the bible is written in allegory. It is not meant to be historical. Oregin, a theologean of the 3rd century said that the people need to think it is literal....that they aren't intellectually sophisticated enough to understand allegory.

If you wanted to know Truth, you would. You don't.

If you actually listen to Hays, he absolutely does NOT affirm allegorical interpretation. He argues for inter-testamental figural reading. Quite different!
Transcending mere literalism is not the same thing as bypassing it. At all.

@@chaddonal4331 I don't expect anyone in any position of prominence to admit the allegorical nature of the stories in the Bible.
Religion is used for social, political and economic ends.
Some colleges have required professors to vow, in writing, not to make certain challenges regarding the Bible.
