This first book in the Bailey Bay Cozy Mysteries Series by Catherine Waltan is a suspenseful, magical and fun reading series starter as the young witch Rosalind along with Shadow her black cat familiar, and school mate Cole attempts to solve the mystery of three children being kidnapped by someone using dark flame magic, which is rare powerful and normally healing. Waltan lets the reader know rather quickly that Rosalind's father was publicly executed back in the land of Dreynnen where witches and other supernatural beings live for his illegal attempt to wipe out the magic-stealing Ashlings. The result of that is the moving to our world by Rosalind and her mother, where things take a turn for the worse when an Ashling steals her mother's magic when she tries to protect Rosalind from it, which in turn brings on a life-threatening illness as witches can only live for a short amount of time without their magic. The usual good vs bad characters are all described in great detail both physically, magically and emotionally. The character called "unknown" is a cruel power-hungry revenge-seeking witch who wants to become a God by sacrificing three innocent children to bring Lord Horace back from the dead and help rule the world, while along the way make all the people who were mean and dismissive, regret those actions. The story flows rather smoothly with just a few hiccups along the way.

Black cats, and other animals- are harder to facially read for emotional cues. This tends to make them less adopted. But they’re no different, emotionally, from their lighter colored siblings.

Going on to the next person Cole should have made a bigger pause and then gone coal with more emphasis so that you could see the transition better, but I'm still grateful for having this book read weather my hands are my eyes are currently working properly using voice to text and can't fix anything.

I have never considered black cats any difference than any other feline, my first pet was a child that was given to me by one of my father's secretaries who was being rotated back stateside he was a tiny little kitten lady who had just had him for the last six months of his life didn't know if he was a hairy or Gladys so she had named him Harry Gladys his first time at the vet at 6 months of age told us everything we needed to know he was a hairy not the Gladys, I've always been different my whole life, so I can certainly relate to the character, but I've never understood why people think blind can't serve any different than any other feline... But I suppose that has to do with the way the world has been persuaded by Christianity to think of cats, and those who like them. But I suppose black cats in particular because they they are black and Christianity thinks of anything black as being bad... You wear black outfit and you must be fill-in-the-blank. The fact is Christianity has always been small minded but it isn't the only one religions are also and are equally the same up to a point in Judaism it doesn't matter what color the cat is it is considered an animal that is useful to the household, and you're not allowed to harm creature that is useful to the household specifically cats and dogs, the reason given is that they did not speak out against the Jewish people as they tried to flee their enslavers, and according to some the even went so far as to bring them pieces of food, but that last bit is b debated on. Judaism lots of people wear black lots of women do too and it doesn't mean anything, witchcraft is about not knowing where your particular gift comes from if you know it comes from the creator of the universe then you are not a witch, but if you're not a hundred percent certain of where it comes from things might have to be investigated to find out where they do and you would be expected to help in that investigation to make sure that it isn't some dark force using you as a pawn or puppet. And if somebody who knows people who weren't Jewish as far as I know anyway they were being used by such forces if you want to call it that yeah I'd say that's pretty accurate. But that's a different story for a different time, and their ways to deal with such people and those who might be using them to create the harm they might be trying to create, I've met people like that like I said and I've met the spirits that they used to to turn those who are easily persuaded into being their pawns, I learned as a child from my father how to make ways to prevent them from being able to carry out their machinations. Most people of science and logic don't really believe in such things and they're smart not to doesn't mean they don't exist that just means that because they don't believe they have stronger walls no less likely to be messed with, because in a way that's all it is a type of science a persuasive type of science, in a manner of speaking and while there may be something of a supernatural nature in it, such things cannot defy the area of scientific explanation, at least not completely. I have studied other religions another things including ones that use magic as a part of their belief system and there's nothing really wrong with that. I studied it because all my life my father had told me that the best way to understand what any missionary might try is to study every religion that you can find but make sure you know yours better than they know there's if such a thing is possible. I have read so many things on the occult even books that later on disappeared from libraries, some of which were very old my dad and I figured it was the Christian majority were trying to ban books at the time.
So I always hung out with the odd kids because I was one I was a nerd when nerves were not popular.

Shadow reminds me of two cats want a beautiful black cat that would be loved by my my kids poisoned by a very evil neighbor, I wish done to her that what she did was come back upon her because that's one of the universal laws, I didn't have to do anything kids didn't do anything but eventually she went crazy and died. My kids were the first content with that they felt that the Creator had done something, but they were young at the time now they don't believe much in anyting, the other cat was this cat I call boo
Boo was a strikingly in his black look he was cat he had what was apparently the markings of kimono I found out that this is call a kimono cat and that they are extremely rare... He had a habit of curling up around my neck. And when people saw him they thought that I was wearing some sort of stole like a mink stole right up until they complimented me and said what a beautiful stole I was wearing, and then he pop-up is head I actually loved him because of the fact he'd spook people when he did that. Not that I'm anti-social, I just don't like it when people call to try to sell you things at your front door or try to mission arise you. I was young at the time not yet twenty.
I have never met a cat that looks like him or acted like him since I've met plenty of cats that are sweet and amiable and like to sit on your shoulder none quite like him.
And I've had plenty of remarkable and special critters and felines.
