  • Will we ever get all the lights working on this car? Only the flashers are left to repair. Easier said than done.

      I actually doubt the wiring will be all that bad and with the help of Nick at Vintage Thunderbird Repair the vacuum lines will also be a snap. In fact, he's already done a great video on on them.

    Patrick, sorry to hear about your car. I hate to hear and see stuff like that. it makes me want to cry, its verry sad to see a old car that has survived the test of time come to a very sad end.

      Hey Gordon,
      It actually looks worse than it really is. Nick of Vintage Thunderbird Repair did en excellent video showing which vacuum lines go where. I'll be referring to it a lot. I also have a vacuum line routing drawing compliments of Auto Anatomy.
      You'll see, my friend.

    Happy New Year John. One job at a time and do it well. That has been what you have said right along. You inspire me to work on m T-Bird. It is coming along nicely. The lip stick and mascara is easy. The underlying wiring, nuts, bolts and endless age related issues (both car and me) are a challenge. I will get my car done by spring if I don't run out of money or time first.

      Well, well, well... I'm done. Yikes, what vacuum disaster under the console! Have you got vacuum diagrams to help you? It must be pretty miserable crawling around in the cabin. I've done my share of fishing around behind the dashboard. Not fun!
      I have to admit, I was getting a little sad for you when you were confronting that mess, until you showed us what happened to that man's T-Bird two days before Christmas! All that work wiped out in a heartbeat. I was first bracing myself that the guy got in an accident. Sadly ended up even worse.
      Hang in there, it can only go in one direction from here. Progress to completion!

    There is a copper disc with I believe 3 raised places made to contact the 2 contacts on the piece that came off. There is also a small spring. The whole setup will come apart easily so be careful when you reassemble it

  • @vintagethunderbirdrepair9426
    @vintagethunderbirdrepair9426 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey John, I guess its too late to tell you not to let the flasher switch come apart like you did. DOH!! There is a spring and round copper plate in there that will go flying as you described in your video. If you lose these pieces I don't think you will find them, hens teeth, and I don't have them either! You need to find those parts.
    Get an analog voltage meter so you can better see quick changes in voltage like when testing the flasher. Digital volt meters suck for that.
    The fat chrome moldings along the edge of the center console that lead up around the AC vent and also down under the steering column holding the ignition switch are all interconnected. This means that you cannot take them out separately, they are all screwed together. In the video you can see the one to the right and above the AC vent is still installed meaning that the one it attaches to that goes along the right side of the center console is broken now because it was removed without removing the screw to hold it to the one still in the car. The one holding the ignition switch is also attached to the one going along the left side of the center console and both moldings must be removed together so not to break the attaching tabs.
    The chrome pieces on the edge of the roof console that hold the visors are heavily pitted on your car and the roof console itself has leprosy. Ill send you good ones for no charge if you like, let me know. I have a pile that will never go anywhere.
    Hey Patrick, I want to say I feel your pain but I don' think anyone can really know what that must feel like to watch your car burn to the ground and melt. That sucks. I'm very sorry.

    • @joernone
      @joernone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nick,
      Yeah, I never expected that switch to pop apart. 😋 But there is a plan B for that bugger. You'll hopefully see it within the next two videos, but I will try to find those parts that went flying.
      I do have a few analog multimeters, but right now we're trying to get the flasher relays to work properly. It's turning out to be a chore, but we'll get it.
      Almost everything in the interior of this car is broken in one way or another. As I said in the video, it's been completely torn apart. Oh well, such is the life, my friend. No need to whine. I just have to dig in and make it happen!
      I do very much appreciate the parts offer. I accept, but the cost of shipping will be reimbursed. Sound like a plan?
      Regards,
      John

    These wonderful cars required a high octane gasoline. Phillips 66 Flight Fuel worked best for me when I had one but that was in the late 1960s.. So, what can you use today to protect the internal engine parts or have I not gone back far enough to find that discussion on another video?

    • @joernone
      @joernone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Glenn,
      Hello there.
      Premium gasoline coupled with a bottle of octane booster and diesel engine oil to protect the valve seats are the way to go. There's plenty of YT vids on both subjects as a lot of folks need to know.

    Just picked up a 66 and started my repair list. Any idea which video of you 105+ has fuel line stuff? My car has a rubber line zip tied to the underside of the car, I see a two piece line for sale... just not seeing any info/pics/videos of the mounting/routing.

    • @joernone
      @joernone  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Joel, congrats on grabbing the '66. Good stuff.
      The gas line on my Bird had been recently changed by the previous owner, so except for the very front section behind the wheel I didn't have to mess with it, thus it wasn't covered in the videos. If your line is rubber I' recommend that you snatch up this one from Mac's Thunderbird. The price is right and you'll need that short piece as it's what runs behind the wheel. I also recommend that you get the line that runs from the fuel pump to the carburetor.
