Michelle Payne rode into history when she won the Melbourne Cup in 2015. Rachel Griffiths brought the story to the big screen. Melissa Doyle went behind the scenes with the director on her first feature to find out why she believes this is the ultimate Aussie sports story.

Its 2020. We're suffering from a worldwide pandemic. I just saw this movie and I absolutely loved it!! I've played portions of it over and over again. Beautiful!!
Omg. My daughter has been chasing this dream for a lot of years. . My heart is with her but also stops every time the phone rings Driving her to the track at 3 am every morning. Watching her blossom into a beautiful rider has been a dream for me. Love the girls strutting their stuff

I was about to sleep when I noticed my wife watching this movie.....sat down (I thought for a while) and ended up finishing the movie...watch it.

Finally Just watched this after wanting to see this since November last year. While In Co Vid 19 isolation we set up the outdoor Aussie cinema (TV) by the flre and it was gold 😍

Loved the movie - but it made me very angry at the horrible treatment Michelle faced just for pursuing her dreams - including sexual harassment and not been given the same chances and allowances of the men.
She was right in telling them to get stuffed. Go Michelle, you’re a true sporting hero!

From the 'shorts' I've seen so far & bad acting by All. That's all I need see. A shame it was handled so badly, bad actors etc. because it's a good story. Looks as bad all over as Red Dog

I woudlve loved to of heard what the jockeys where saying to her after the race.. thay need go pro's or cameras on their heads just for the fans and moments like this.. this moments we miss the ones after the race what happens after the jockeys weigh in.. just think us as fans would love more of an insight on a jockey before during and after a race.

Is it just me or is there a lot of women riding in Aussie races? I’ve been “playing” Australian racing for awhile now, from the States and I see A LOT of female riders. And, they beat the guys consistently....In America, there’s only been a few female riders to race, compete and consistently beat the best male jocks, at the top tracks. Rosie, Julie and Chantel etc.

I worked Caulfield track and noted a greater female presence in the industry. It's monstrously difficult in the U.S
Beautiful story and it makes very happy seeing a woman breaking barriers, but it aggravates me seeing unnecessary attacks on men, as if all men are chauvinists. It's gotta stop. We need women to conquer more positions not to start a war between men and women.

no, not really, started with a handshake, but developed into a hug ..... what's the big deal? I would say Paddy he is an "old school" type dad ... he is in his 80's ... a lot of that generation were not that showy affection wise ... Also, he would be aware he was being filmed, it may have stilted his reaction (you also don't know if that was the first take of that shot ... it may have been a couple of takes in, so felt a bit not so special
When you're on a 100-1 shot there is no pressure. Nobody expects a 100-1 shot to WPS. Pressure is riding a 1-10 shot in a 20 horse field.
TJ Not sure if you're familiar with the Melbourne cup. First run in 1861, its a 24 horse handicap over 2 miles, the richest turf race in the world and the race that stops a nation The favorites are usually 6or7-1 and it's bloody hard to pick a winner.
Frankie Dettori has 500 odd group wins , one of the best jockeys of all time, he's ridden abt 15 Melbourne cups over 20 years, including a few favourites but has never won.
There's no pressure riding in the Melbourne cup because it takes more than skill and a great horse, it also takes luck and courage.
Doesn't even know Michelle was running (in Cup) by 3.30 pm. & Griffiths thought she was the one who should direct the movie. OMG. She should keep to acting. You'll soon see why.

The sacrifices jocks make to stay at riding weight is hell to most humans they’re a special type of sportsperson and anyone that tries to take away the ability and years of experience necessary to become a jockey let alone a successful one is a fool

Michelle unfortunately if the fat controller was riding that horse it was winning DK WARE had more persian rugs and electric volts running through those veins you could of been a sumo wrestler riding that horse and it was winning.

If frankie dettori didnt take out half the field we wouldnt be talking about it. The horse was no doubt on something also. But im sure the movie wont mention either of those things, or the fact she told the owners to get stuffed after the race. Which is why she was taken off the horse next season. Theyll be to interested in promoting girl power. I havnt seen it dont really want to.
