Was living in a ski resort town and heard of a couple living in their tiny car with a huge dog. They may have been between houses as housing was bad there... Most likely though they were one of the dozens of squatters living out of their vehicles as they moved from town to town during skiing/hiking seasons.
Either way super upsetting. Don't get a big ass dog if you're unstable or don't have savings or connections to ensure proper living conditions. Heaven forbid it needs to go to the vet at some point.

Wyld Fyre Glad you’re no longer living in such an abusive home! No child should ever have to endure that. I’m so sorry. It seems like you have grown up to be a very strong person though, in spite of all you went through. We all have the choice to either let our past traumas turn us into the people who hurt us, or the choice to break the cycle and use our experiences as a lesson of what not to do and as a source of strength. The latter may not always be easy, but it is always worth it. Best wishes, and God bless! 😊💕

Had a friend that wasn't exactly a neat freak, but he took pride in his appearance and surroundings. Then he married a girl from an online game and they both became completely undone. I went to house sit so they could go to Hawaii and show her grandmother the wedding rings. They had a dog, 4 rescue cats, a room full of snakes, and in their living room was her pride and joy; a ceiling-high pen of domesticated rats. Something like 50 I wanna say. Absolutely unbearable stench. They left their kitchen completely wrecked from cooking something massive. Their bedroom indicated that they probably went at it for hours the night before. I told my mom about it and she drove 40 miles to help me clean the place up. My friend when they got back: "Hey place looks nice, you didn't have to clean." Me: "Yeah I know, but I kinda did."

Its one thing to find single person that lives like that because how they were raised or there's something wrong with their head. That story about Patrick and the NES reminded me of my boyfriend when I was 14 years old. He lived down the block and he wasn’t actually poor, from what I could tell, but his dad was a very abusive piece of shit, and his mom was too abused and too depressed and just too unable to control the home or situation to do any real housework, and the house was a complete wreck. Holes in the coffee table, rips in the couch, filthy kitchen, garbage everywhere kind of situation. His father was in the KKK and while his mom liked me quite a bit, the dad would not have approved, as I am Mexican, so I snuck in through my boyfriend’s bedroom window and it was a couple of months or so (I saw him pretty much every day, it was summer vacation) before I ever saw the rest of the house and realized how deep that family’s problems ran. My boyfriend was a pathological liar who made up some extremely bizarre lies, a trait that a “cousin” of his had told me began pretty much as soon as he could talk. His younger sister was a year or two younger than me, and she kept lying about having had abortions when she had never even been pregnant to begin with. Like three times before the age of thirteen. There were times I saw his mom look at me with these unbelievably sad looks that I haven’t seen anything really close to since, and I’ve seen some sad faces in deep despair. No, his name wasn’t Patrick. I really hope he didn’t turn out as bad as you’d expect, and I hope his mom got free and got some kind of serious emotional help and relief.

little late to the party but...
helping a buddy replace a broken window in one of his rental apartments.
    on the way there:
buddy: "look man, i gotta warn ya, it's pretty bad in there... it's pretty embarrassing. i'm trying to evict them..."
me: "whatever, i'm good for about anything."
it was like Hoarders... one of the ones with rotten food, bugs, and garbage everywhere. seeing it on TV is one thing, standing in the middle of it... it's an assault on almost every sense. i can't even describe the smell. years of garbage bags piled up in every room and hallway, bags on the bottom look like they're composting. little trails between piles at least waist high. about a dozen of those sticky fly tape things hanging from the ceiling completely covered in flies. various other house and fruit flies flying all around. floor is peppered with so much roach and mouse shit it looks like dirt. imagine what that smells like, then add years of cheap cigars and cigarettes smoked indoors with the windows closed, that's what it smelled like.
buddy asks tenant if he cleaned any more since he was there last because it didn't look like it. tenant mutters to himself. buddy asks him why there are no bags outside since today is garbage collection day. tenant mutters to himself. buddy, as if he were speaking to a small child: "it'd be nice to get rid of a couple of bags, don't ya think? maybe you could grab 1 or 2 and i'll grab 1 too..." tenant becomes agitated "ah what the hell, man? it's not hurting nobody, it's not in the way. what the hell's the problem?"
tunnel vision on the job to cope. start pulling off the window trim, baby cockroaches fall out, under the trim, roach shit and/or eggs. within 5 minutes of entering eyes, lungs, and skin feel itchy. pull out window, one of the tenants flips out about the cold air coming in and calls the police on us. police come, they seem very familiar with her, tell her to quit being a psycho and leave. get new window installed asap. as we're packing up, male tenant who's been sitting behind us chain smoking cheap cigars the whole time says "what? you guys aren't going to clean up your mess?" pointing at little bits of caulking and maybe a couple nails that are mixed in with all the shit and dirt on the floor. i could feel my eye twitch as i tilt my head to look at my buddy. i look over at the tenant, "You. Live. In. Garbage. And. Shit." and walked out.
    we get in the truck:
    buddy: "so... i told yo-"
me: "no, yeah, no that's... that's definitely the worst place i've ever been in my life."
get home, strip to boxers on front step outside, garbage bin everything i was wearing and shower. smell stayed in my nose for about 3-4 days.

While we'd like to think it was "fake", the sad reality is that some parents end up corrupting / fricking up their children with the attitude, "I'd rather know they've seen/done this stuff in a supervised (safe?) manner than wonder about what they've done behind my back."
There's nothing necessarily wrong with porn', either... BUT when it's meant for "mature" adults, there's an age limit for watching it.
I've personally met actual adults who gave their kids booze and even pot, so they could "learn what it's like" in a supposedly more safe and supervised manner... AND while I can attest that it's probably not a terrible idea to be supervised in your "first time" with things like alcohol (which can kill you), there's also a reason for "legal age" for that sort of thing... you know... like "the brain isn't finished forming until around 25" for instance. ;o)

That story made me mad, because I relate too much to her situation. I'm 61, and live in a very rural mountain community, and have for the past 16 years. Even though my closest neighbor is about a mile away, I used to have friends in another small community about 5 miles away, and enjoyed coming to the monthly potlucks.
7 Years ago, my abusive husband of 15 years left me and moved in with his ex-wife, who he never stopped seeing all during our marriage. Although my health improved a lot after he left, I was depressed and felt like a failure (found out he was putting Visine in my coffee, which can be deadly). He also wrote crap about me on the neighborhood Facebook page, until he got banned. Thing is, you can tell people it isn't true, but they never stop thinking that maybe it is.
I spent 4 days in a mental hospital because a therapist I'd never met, talked to me on the phone and decided I was suicidal, so he 5150ed me. I was taken down the hill and 40 miles away to a horrible mental facility. All because I mentioned lyrics from a sad old blues song that Nina Simone sang, "Trouble In Mind". She sings that she's gonna lay her head on some lonesome railroad line and let the 2:15 train ease her worried mind. This idiot took that to mean I was planning suicide!
I love old murder ballads, too, but never considered acting them out.
A very nosy "christian" woman in our community used to be a 911 operator and she still has nothing better to do than listen to her scanner so she can get dirt on everyone here. Everyone knew I was "crazy" when I got back home because she put my private ordeal on blast, but as SHE saw it. No one ever asked me what happened.
Now I'm the old crazy lady (although I'm much younger than that old bat) and no one talks to me. Just having ONE friend would make a huge difference in my life, but when I see my "neighbors" at the store, they pretend I'm invisible.

To brighten your mood a little after this video:
I've seen a black and a white cat at my neighbor's window before, and I've always seen her 2 dogs. But once my siblings and I forgot our keys so I asked her if I can climb over her backyard to mine cuz our back door was open (we live in a rowhouse so we couldn't walk around and our back yards were separated by a fence.) She said sure, and when I walked in, everything was so clean, and as I was walking down to the basement, she told me they have SIX cats, and the basement had all these cat stands and stuff for them to play with but it smelled like any normal room and it was really clean. She lived there with her husband and daughter. So yeah, 8 pets and everything was clean and smelled nice.

It's really not that hard to take care of a lot of cats. Most I had was five. Just clean their litter boxes, clean up the random hairballs and shed fur, and give them toys and snacky treats. And lots of head and butt scritches. Cats are ridiculously low maintenance. They pretty much take care of themselves as long as you feed and water them.
You never need a blanket either, because they'll just sleep on your face and keep you warm in the winter. My cats are small furnaces.
A lot of times in homes where they're not cared for, it's because either a medical condition or an injury prevents the people from giving pets proper care. It ends up with them either being too stubborn or proud to ask for help, so the house just deteriorates. Family gives up on them, and they're alone wallowing in their own filth.

Once I went to my friends' house to play and spend the night. It was a typical family mom, dad, two daughters, two younger sons. The first thing I noticed were the ants. Ants everywhere, kitchen, living room, front hall, etc. the entire downstairs had trails of them. Then their two dogs. Their dogs were chained up outside at all times, even in the Texas summer heat. They were thin and now thinking about it so was everyone in the family, I don't think they could afford much food but the house seemed bigger in square feet than mine and the neighborhood was nice. The next thing I noticed was when we went upstairs the girls shared a room with a bunk bed and the boys shared a room with a bunk bed and that was it; no other furniture existed in the upstairs. They had toys everywhere but they looked like cheap dollar store brand for everything and the daughters only had one barbie doll each to play with. It was so bizarre to me. Also, kinda random, but the toys and everything I touched felt sticky and gross, the couch and carpet had stains, and the floor had food crumbs and sticky spots everywhere. The mom served us food on paper towels and in dixie cups. The house smelled of baby wipes and sweat. Last thing I noticed was that the kept their AC off completely at night and set to 82 degrees F during the day, I know cause I looked at the thermostat. Needless to say, that was the one and only time I stayed over at their house. I think it also ruined our friendship because we didn't talk much afterward.

It was up to the ceiling, and the house was so horrible that the only mice we could find in the house were all dead. My dad picked up an old bag of chocolate chips off the top of her burnt-out fridge, and it was just dust on the inside. I cannot even begin to describe the smell, but luckily we had respirators on for the most part.

I can definitely say that when I was a teen I would've been very upset by finding such a thing and been very worried as well as I probably would've called my mom and had her come help me with the situation. Having an adult be on your side when those parents came home would've helped me as a teen feel safe to speak up about it but I wouldn't have just left a baby to be put away, abused and unloved like that. Probably would've even volunteered to bring it home with me. (I loved babies as a teen). Hopefully that baby is okay now.

    • @lizygluck4068
      @lizygluck4068 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@The Absolute Madman then why would the baby be dirty in the closet and if you'd don't trust someone with your baby why would you hire them to take care of the other kids? And even if that was the case why not find someone else to care for the baby? In every case it's still child abuse. Not to mention the baby wasn't acting like a normal baby so could've possibly be on the edge of death or was drugged an about to pass out. Plus why didn't the other kids know anything about that baby? If I saw my younger sibling being stuffed in a closet all dirty and acting drugged even as a kid I'd be asking a hell of a lot of questions and then asking the babysitter as well to confirm what my parents told me.

I have two stories from when I was a teenager: 1. My first boyfriend lived in a really rough area of town in a smaller house but had a large family, when I first went over they had a huge hole in the floor, dead rats under the staircase, cracked tiles, dishes and smelly trash piled up for days. One time I almost vomited when I stepped in a pool of spaghettios that had been spilled and left there overnight. I’m so glad I don’t have to go over to his house anymore and 2. When I was 16 I lived with a friends family for a little bit who had 3 cats, the laundry room was where they kept the litter boxes which were almost NEVER cleaned and everytime I did laundry in there I either had to pinch/clip my nose or hold my breath and shove my clothes in the machine as fast as possible or I would start gagging at the scent. Absolutely the worst thing I’ve ever smelled in my life...

My cousin seemed perfectly fine, she was well dressed, always looked professional when she went to work etc. She didn't let people go to her flat though. One day about 8 years ago, she went missing and her dad got the spare key for her flat. Inside she'd been living in filth. It was a shock to everyone. She was found in a nearby town wondering around aimlessly.
Turns out she'd been struggling mentally for years and was great at hiding it. She's doing well now, therapy helped a lot. She's really ashamed of how she used to live and can't explain why she lived like it.

9:40 This sounds exactly like my uncle. He kept his third child locked in a closet crib in his son's room for the first five years of her life. Wallowing in her used diapers, and they reused diapers. Disposable diapers, not the expensive washable cotton ones. He would regularly rip off stores as well, walking through the store eating foot from the hot rack and shoving the garbage onto a random shelf. When I was ten he used me to steal small items like razors and soap. Then I accidentally left my most prized possession, a tiny keychain stuffed cat there, and in the half hour it took us to turn around and go back for it, he already destroyed it because he thought it was funny to make me cry.
This man has millions in his account from tax fraud, stolen employee funds from his company, and money laundering. He stole $150k in wages from my mother alone. He buys a new Escalade every year. He spent $2 million of his businesses funds building a custom house.
He bathed with his two sons until the older one was ten. Then he adopted three kids from Ethiopia, who he insisted on bathing with. This is where I mention that he has an ebony fetish not-so-well hidden on his pc. And he was a massive pervert.
I haven't been to his house in around fifteen years, but last I heard the eldest adopted girl got an apartment and took her siblings with her.

When I was a kid I didn't like to hang out at my best friend's house. The place was awful. Basically 2 parents that didn't give a frick about anything plus 7 kids all in a 3 bedroom house. Bathroom had a hole in the floor big enough to fall through. Kitchen was like anthrax and SARS just waiting to happen. Then there were all the shiny black spots on the carpet. Used to wonder what the heck they were while I watched one of the younger kids picking at one. Realized later that it was dog crap. No one picked it up so it slowly melted into the carpet and got polished by all the foot traffic walking over it.

And I thought my brother and my friend were bad..
    1. My younger brother never washed his childhood blanket, so it began to stink so bad it smelled like death. We thought it was from something like soil falling behind his dresser from his old turtle's aquarium, but nope. He was sleeping with a blanket that he had never washed once he was responsible for his own laundry. He had to keep his room closed because it would make the whole upstairs smell bad. He still refuses to throw the blanket away. It's been washed, but that still didn't get rid of the odor. He is mildly autistic, so it isn't surprising. He also liked to drink MOST of a glass of milk and leave it next to his computer in the computer room (an office with 3 computers, one for each child.) And he would leave those mostly empty glasses of milk sitting there, stewing for weeks.
    2. My friend is our D&D DM. We used to go to his house to play every-other Saturday. When we took our breaks for lunch, he would hand out bowls and silverware that had stuck on food and layers of grease on it. When we started providing him with disposable plates and cups, he would dig them out of the trash or something and reuse them next session. We kept noticing the plastic cups has sticky residue (soda) inside them and that the first couple of plates in the pile were dirty. He also didn't clean his bathroom, so it smelled like urine (for some fucking reason??) every time you'd go in there.. And he had no trash bags in his trashcan in the kitchen, so it smelled awful. The lack of trash bag is what made us think he was reusing the ones from previous sessions, but he could have also been personally using them between sessions and reusing them on us.. My husband and I convincing him that it would be easier to hold the sessions at our place and I would just cook homemade meals and snacks and desserts every session. It had been everyone rotating through making/paying for food, but now I cook and bake for each one and we get clean plates and cups.. He's a great DM and a great guy, but jesus christ he doesn't understand hygiene.

I've got some unusual/weird/questionable stuff myself in my room. I live at my parents' house for convenience and super low rent, and I have the whole finished basement to myself. Such stuff includes but is not limited to:
-An old Hitachi SuperScan Elite 17 CRT monitor and just as old HP keyboard to go with the rest of my relatively modern gaming setup, despite having two larger modern monitors laying around.
-Collection of melee weapons mounted on the wall, including blunt replica katanas, a mini baseball bat, a dowel with a hunk of iron on the end to act as a bludgeon, a sharpened curved hook-shaped stick, a machete, two duct tape flails (one of which has a golf ball core) a couple of super crappy "spears" that would probably break if used, and a nice proper spear with an obsidian tip.
-About 50-60 printed out maps and ship diagrams of the Pacific War.
-A "Most likely to take over the world" award from my old HS History professor.
-One of those fake ficus trees.
-A whiteboard with a variety of quotes from friends and the internet.
-Some random child's art of an airplane, which I found in a parking lot and deemed charming.
-An entire storage rack 75% devoted to my rock collection.
-Several large rocks laying around, including the a flat chunk of easily the densest and heaviest Muscovite Schist I have ever found, which I use as a pillow on my bed.
-60 SP 7.62x54R rifle rounds, currently in an ammo crate on my art table (food for my Mosin)
-A single live .22 charge for an industrial nail gun... which I found at school a few years back.
-Several mangas (GuP and Aoki Hagane no Arpeggio).
-19 IOTBW posters (classic) on the walls which I meant to put up during the second Halloween of the campaign but gave up because there were too many laws about it to be worth the effort of doing it legally.
-A full size corner couch with a fold-out bed.
    -A bottle of rum.
If only my mom hadn't forbidden me from keeping my guns here, I would have them all tucked into my bed with me. And then there's the garage napalm I'm not allowed to bring indoors...

Around 1995 or so my wife and I took our 3 kids to a movie. I was farthest from the aisle. After a while, my wife tells me to switch seats. She was next to the aisle. As soon as I sit down I realize why she had moved. The man now in front of my seat smells like the bottom of a dumpster in the summer. I had to try and watch the movie with my shirt over most of my face. Tears running down my eyes. I toughed it out but should have bolted. The theater was full so no where to relocate.

My uncles ex-wife was the branch manager of a bank in a uni town it the UK. She once had a student account holder who had hit upon the brilliant plan of saving money during their "broke student" phase by bulk buying huge sacks of oats at the beginning of the year, and living off them exclusively. Needless to say, they also ended up with scurvy, and she got involved when Social Services were investigating what kind of messed up circumstances were occurring, and she had to provide them with their financial details, transaction history etc, as they tried to determine how the actual fuck a nominal adult ended up like that
