I know he didn't believe in a literal Heaven or Hell but if such a place in fact exists, I hope he is in Heaven watching down and inspiring the next isolated disenfranchised teenager with his music. I discovered him in 2001 and he's exactly what metal sound I was looking for too.
This is the first LIVE performance I've been able to find with the Original Lineup performing material from Sacred Heart. Love It. No fancy stage show, just Marshalls. Their Best Album IMO. Vivian was and still is Amazing. That Guitar Tone...WOW. Thank You!!!!
For those watchin' I can tell ya'll that the 1980s were an incredibly special time, especially in metal. I remember as a sophomore in high school coming home from Record Bar with my new copy of "The Last In Line" and just being blown away with how good it was. I have been a DIO fan since that day in 1984.
Thank you so much for the remastering of this terrific performance. The DIO classic lineup just absolutely crushing it!! This is an amazing demonstration of the entire band showing what consummate professionals they were. The material is so difficult, rich, and groundbreaking. Vivian's solo at 24:30 is one of my favorites of all time. And of course, Ronnie's incredible storytelling and vocal control is just unmatched. I remember listening to the first two Dio releases over and over just marveling at how masterful and tight they were. RIP Ronnie - truly one of the GOATs of metal!!
Oh Ronnie, that powerful beautiful voice, the charisma and passion..that enormous stage presence!! ..and that smile literally melts me 🥰🤘🏻🔥❤️ what a man!! 😍
Thanks for the upload! Ronnie James Dio has gotta be the most underrated metal god vocalist in history. Dare I say I even prefer the Dio era Black Sabbath more than the Ozzy era stuff. I know, right!!?? Fucking blasphemy! When I was younger, I thought the Ozzy era was better. Now I'm 48 years old and my tastes in music have changed. Ronnie wrote some amazing vocals when with Sabbath...much more in depth than Ozzy and the rest EVER did!

It was common practice back in the 80s to cut concert videos down to under an hour when officially releasing them. I’m not sure why but I assume it was due to some technical limitations
This was recorded with Vivian Campbell on guitar, but by the the time it was released He had been replaced by Craig Goldy. So the editing doesn’t focus so much on Vivian which is a shame because he was very innovative on his solos on this tour
*Rainbow in the Dark* near the end really shows off his guitar skills - he seemed to not have his best day during that concert, but the playing in that song is spot-on.

I learned most of Holy Diver by ear, solos and all in '83 and the work on that recording changed my style as a player...twas so original. But Mr. Parasite Exterminator, I must agree. I was disappointed in his lack of control on this recording. Solo to Last in Line and Rainbow were good here. I really enjoyed the Live at the Spectrum for his playing was still young and new. Vivian was one hell of a guitarist, by far the best Dio has worked with. It's a shame he was kicked out.
Campbell took a promotion to work for Def Leppard after Dio's wife refused to give Campbell a promised raise.
