This may be the best looking Seiko under $1000. The simplicity and beauty of the dial with the case and bracelet is like nothing else at this price range. Perfect execution by Seiko!
Those lugs are lovely. Such a fantastic case design that works so well with all the elements where this one is clearly greater than the sum of its parts.
Thanks Rob. Love everything about mine, and surprisingly versatile - Can be pulled off semi casual for sure. Size, bracelet, fit & finish certainly makes it great value for money in my mind!
I bought an SDGM001 as my first automatic watch last month. Can't stop looking at it. Really gorgeous dial that shines differently depending on how light falls into it. Now I'm planning on getting a SARX035 for Christmas. Thanks for the video.
I saw the thumbnail and thought "that's the best looking Seiko I've seen in years". Hadn't noticed that the video was 6 years old, from before they started engraving patterns into their dials.
I have the SARX033 - the white dial version with the blue hands. Great watch. In one of your last videos I remarked that the watches looked awesome in your videos and popped out like seen seldomly in other videos. Now I know for a fact that you have your lighting game spot on. Thumbs up.
Love this watch! Such an awesome dial & that bracelet! I feel it has a lil more versatility compared the brights. But it’s still a hard decision! Rob If they are still available this coming Friday expect a email from me.
That's an elegant watch. At first I thought it was the same as my SARY057 but this is definitely the next level feel up. 6R15 as opposed to 4R36 and a much nicer bracelet with milled clasp. That said if you like this but it's out of your budget, check out the SARY, just as nice and quality is excellent.
I have watched this vid like 10 times just today I want one. They should make one in the blue dial from the sarb045. Thats another one I wish I could find. Can find Sarb033 all day long but just one sarb045. Nooo can't have the cool one haha. This level of finishing with the sarb045 dial would be sick.
next on my list ...just debating if it's worth upgrading to the 057 Titanium. At least over time this could be polished/refinished unlike the diashield. Like that its got cursive print and better bracelet than SARB or SARY -half links for getting a good size too. Better looking with 20mm bracelet width (over the 22 of the SARY.) Simple and elegant.
The finish bracelet case lines dial all worth the increase over sarb. Sarx055 and the brightz are unreal too. The finish puts Rolex and Omega to shame.
This does not need to be any smaller it's not just a dress watch. To me its the Everyday Rolex Explorer killer. For a fraction of the price I can't believe anyone would try to compare this to a sarb.
@@steelsteez6118 that's an extremely hard choice I can see why you're torn. I guess it all depends on whether you like the pattern on the Dial or the plain black ink dial. Also the crown difference, I prefer the onyx crown. I'm not sure if there's a difference in case thickness. But at the end of the day I would go with whichever one had a thinner case and whichever one I could get for a better price
Too right. It has literally killed my love for my 39mm Explorer. I haven't worn it in the 4 months I have had the SARX. Each time I put the Rolex on, I look at the dial of the 35 and swap watches.
I have the SARB033 :) it has been discontinued by Seiko. I believe the SARX035 is the continuation. The SARB033 is a little smaller than this, and uses a bit more old school bracelet with rounded corners, plus it has lume whereas this model does not. Other than that, they use the same movement (mine has 6R15 D). What I like on the SARX035 is that clasp, which is the only thing I dislike on mine, because they kind of got their tolerances wrong on that clasp pin, and it doesn't close perfectly flush with the bracelet, there's like a 2mm "wiggle" that makes the gap a little too visible.
38mm is too small and 40+ is too big for me 6.3 inch wrist.. I think if companies makes more often 39mm watches Will be insane cause they Will match bigger wrist People too very good.
I had both, as well as a few other Seiko's in this price range like the Urushi and Enamel. I decided to keep just one, this SARX, because it is the most versatile, and whenever I was wearing something else I would miss it.
What do you call that kind of Bracelet? With those extra polished parts either side of the middle link. I've been searching all over to find an after market bracelet for an SKX013 that looks like this and all I can find are really cheap 5 link bracelets with hollow-ish end links. I've literally not been able to find one that looks like this with solid lugs. That is a GRAND SEIKO bracelet right there, and I really want to get one!
I would buy that over the sdgm versions its more modern I don’t think you would tire of it, but one thing that really bugged me with my sdgm black version is it always looked grubby I couldn’t keep that glass clean so beware if that will annoy you.
I think this might be the watch I'd get after a lot of saving up. It looks better than the SARB033 for me! Although the SARB033 has unbeatable value as well.
hey Rob, do you think the SARX035 applies the same AR coating as the SARX057? The SARX057 has an unbelievable AR coating that makes the sapphire seem non-existent. Cheers
Get you some Long Island Watch gloves! Definitely a great watch, but I’m not calling $700 inexpensive! It maybe worth every penny, but it’s outta my budget.
Takle a look at the Orient line of watches, you won't get a better relation price-quality, as this one for example, around 300 US dollars with sapphire crystal instead Hardlex. You can get it in steel if you don't like gold plated th-cam.com/video/uBPBGr5XcfY/w-d-xo.html
I was going to get this cash but ended up getting a moon watch on credit. Lol so thanks seiko for leading me to the Omega Speedmaster saphire sandwich.
Looking to get one............ what size bands do you put on this 20-22, if you change the band............. BTW love you reviews......... Keep them coming...... Thanks !!!
Not the same. The SARX055/057 are Titanium and go for roughly $1000, and the SARX033/035 are Stainless Steel, and go for $700-800. Also the 055/057 have slightly sharper hands, and that blocky "Presage" lettering instead of the cursive "Automatic" on the 033/035. All four are excellent pieces.
Looks so clean without extra lines of text on the dial - hate it when Seiko litters the dial with "X" (for prospex) and other crap text. Super sharp in that inky black!
@bam tang, actually this watch is Seiko's classic "Grammar of Design" style, largely unchanged for 60 years since the first Grand Seiko's, the only thing that makes it modern aside from the improved materials and finishing, is that it is 40.8mm instead of 36mm. It is the opposite of a "fashion-ey" watch.
bam tang I think the term you’re looking for is classically designed. Ergo, the design won’t be going out of style. The only issue I find is that it’s not classically proportioned at 41mm for a dress watch.
R T, the short answer is yes IMO. If you think about it the diameter of the dial on this dress watch is larger than the diameter of most sports watches like a Rolex Submariner (ie narrower bezel means more dial diameter).
Nah, the SARB was an excellent $300 watch when it was available at msrp, but its definitely not the SARX, any more than the SARX is identical to a Grand Seiko or the SARB to a black dial Seiko 5. SARB doesn't have the Superclear AR coating so the dial isn't as inky, Sarb has lume whereas Sarx has clean indices and hands, SARX has a nicer bracelet with polished/brushed 5 piece links, and a nicer clasp that is totally flush with the bracelet, all the SARX SS surfaces have diashield coating, and the SARX is 2.8mm larger diameter (which is neither good or bad of itself, depends on your taste and wrist size). The only thing the same really is the movement and the general classic Seiko 'grammar of design' style.
The size of the Sarb is a lot better for me and I like the hands and that "needle". The bracelet of the SARX may be better but I am not a fan of those polished 90 ties inserts. I would rather have the Sarb033 and the 035 for the same price.
That Saphire is so damn clear! Doesn’t even feel like it’s there!
3 years later. This is still one of my favorite watches in my collection. Besides a sary087. Thank you Rob.
This may be the best looking Seiko under $1000. The simplicity and beauty of the dial with the case and bracelet is like nothing else at this price range. Perfect execution by Seiko!
Sarx057. Similar look but titanium. Still under $1000.
Those lugs are lovely. Such a fantastic case design that works so well with all the elements where this one is clearly greater than the sum of its parts.
The Sarx035 has been my daily wearer for around 8 years now and I still love it
I have it and I seriously think it's one of the best looking watches I've ever seen.
Agree!
I saw the thumbnail and thought "that's the best looking Seiko I've seen in years". Hadn't noticed that the video was 6 years old, from before they started engraving patterns into their dials.
The script “automatic” is gorgeous and simplicity at its very best. No doubt the Baby Grand Seiko
What a wonderful watch - bought it after your review. Thanks
A classic. Thank you for sharing these Doug. Thank you for another excellent video Rob :)
A beauty indeed. Love the sealmless clasp too!
Now this watch looks like a modern dress watch! Great review!
I have the SARX033 - the white dial version with the blue hands. Great watch.
In one of your last videos I remarked that the watches looked awesome in your videos and popped out like seen seldomly in other videos. Now I know for a fact that you have your lighting game spot on. Thumbs up.
Gorgeous dial, reminds me of a grand piano or a well polished slick top
Dial perfection - just incredible !!!
amazing watch, bracelet, case, case polishing, crown, hands, lugs, clasp, awesome !!
Awesome watch, just gorgeous.
Amazing quality watch. Thanks for the review and nice closeup shots.
You are bringing in some Seiko beauties lately. I'll probably just stick to my Sarb but I could use a black dial
Love this watch! Such an awesome dial & that bracelet! I feel it has a lil more versatility compared the brights. But it’s still a hard decision! Rob If they are still available this coming Friday expect a email from me.
I have the sarx 057. These presage models are damn near perfect
That's an elegant watch. At first I thought it was the same as my SARY057 but this is definitely the next level feel up. 6R15 as opposed to 4R36 and a much nicer bracelet with milled clasp. Hope they restock this watch again , or make it 38 mm !
Seiko SARX027 Enamel dial is 😍
Stunning watch. Wish Seiko offered this in a 36 or 37mm. I’d sell my Sarb in a second and pick it up.
SunsetSheen Have you looked at the Presage Zen Garden SRPD97j1? It’s a white dial but 38mm and very nice indeed!
The finish bracelet case lines dial all worth the increase over sarb. Sarx055 and the brightz are unreal too. The finish puts Rolex and Omega to shame.

Omg. Im watching on my big tv and it looked like their was no crystal...lol...stunning watch
Hope theres a 38mm version someday for the smaller wrist person...
38mm is too small and 40+ is too big for me 6.3 inch wrist.. I think if companies makes more often 39mm watches Will be insane cause they Will match bigger wrist People too very good.
Nice watch, I like the bracelet
Case and bracelet are made by Casio , in the same production line they make the Casio Oceanus series .
I was just about to get a Tag Heuer...but hold on...👀
The sides seem a little tall. Wish they made these watches a little thinner. Under 10mm would be ideal.
Is this the best black dial, or an enamel black dial is better
.?
Looks amazing.
Pure quality!
I'd rather get an SBDC51 for this money.. But its still an awesome watch.
Greetings from Germany
I had both, as well as a few other Seiko's in this price range like the Urushi and Enamel. I decided to keep just one, this SARX, because it is the most versatile, and whenever I was wearing something else I would miss it.
The SBDC51 and this Sarx 035 are my two Seikos.

I experienced the same thing with my SARB033. Didn't show up as much on the SARB035 because of the cream dial.
I think this might be the watch I'd get after a lot of saving up. It looks better than the SARB033 for me! Although the SARB033 has unbeatable value as well.

I like to get my prints all over things, no gloves for me.
Random Rob glad you don’t wear gloves.

Imperial Trooper aren’t you the self righteous guy! I think how he buys it is his business and not for your ass to judge! Lol
@@Bobsbargainbasement hu...? I said nothing about him.
Looking to get one............ what size bands do you put on this 20-22, if you change the band............. BTW love you reviews......... Keep them coming...... Thanks !!!
How would you say this beauty is compared to the SARX055 you looked at a while ago? Torn between the two honestly.
They are basically the same. So preference would be what dial you like more. The black dial would be my choice. But I would wear it very often.
Anyone knows the weight of this watch?
I live in Pennsylvania. How can I buy one of these? What store would sell this watch? Thanks for the post. Beautiful watch !
Folded end links?
Solid
can sarb 033 use sarx035 bracklet?
Yes, actually I did the opposite, put the sarb bracelet in a sarx 035

Looks so clean without extra lines of text on the dial - hate it when Seiko litters the dial with "X" (for prospex) and other crap text. Super sharp in that inky black!
I have this watch... neglect my other watches because of it.
This or the SARX045?
Kĩ thuật quay tốt quá. Đồng hồ đẹp. Bạn mua nó giá bao nhiêu vậy?
Huh?
power reverse?
The 6R15 has 23 jewels, beats at 21,600 vph, 50 hours of power reserve with +25/-15 sec/day
I'd love to handle this side by side with a Grand Seiko. The SARX035 seems like a legit, less expensive alternative to the GS.
Shrink this case to 38.5mm and give it SARB033’s deep brown dial and you have the perfect watch.
41mm is too large for as a dress watch. I wish it was 39mm. The bracelet is much nicer than the Sarb033.
If was 38-39 would be amazing dress watch.

Hello Rob, if the price was the same, do you think this SARX035 would be better value than the Tissot Gentleman Automatic?
Yes
Good question
I ended up getting the Seiko and am very satisfied with my purchase.

✌🏻👱🏻♂️✌🏻
Nice.
Thanks for sharing.
1st. Also, beautiful watch!
It seems to be much bigger than 40 mm.. Strange
Once you go black......….
Huge gap between the crown and the case, unacceptable for SEIKO watches
Nice but child’s pay compared to the 055 🤷🏻♂️
Too Big
Just another generic watch no one will notice. But FANTASTIC quality tho!! WOW
Imperial Trooper sounds like you’re a Dick! Haha haha
TIP: SARB033--almost identical still available @$480 new!
Not at all identical. Do you see that dial on the SARX?
"almost identical"
Nah, the SARB was an excellent $300 watch when it was available at msrp, but its definitely not the SARX, any more than the SARX is identical to a Grand Seiko or the SARB to a black dial Seiko 5. Still available. Same movement as the SARX. 1/2 price. Superficial differences.

The crown is not pressed against the case. Very poor quality for a watch at such a high price.
50 Dollars watch, Brand SEIKO, . . . 5000 Dollars watch also brand SEIKO, Huh! No proud wearing hi-end SEIKO watch
Brand disaster . . . .
No speaky Engrish!
