The ones on here that I’ve been to, I love, I love Detroit, Memphis, New Orleans, St. Louis, and Baltimore, it’s very sad to see how we just let them go. “Getting a damn job and being responsible” “Throw em all in jail” 🤦🏻♀️ poverty is so much deeper than that. For starters, all these areas have a lack of resources, especially available jobs and access to good education. So much more to it than just going out to get a job. These videos are interesting but as with all things, we have to take the information and think for ourselves
Thank you! I was waiting for someone to comment about what he said, because it came off a bit ignorant. Especially considering the fact that he probably isn’t from a poverty area. 🤦🏾♂️
Being poor doesn't cause you to murder people. Steal, use drugs, drop out of school, maybe. In the Great Depression people didn't start killing each other. They helped out. There are young people now who wouldn't take a job for anything, running the streets. You know you've seen them. Momma can't control them, won't go to school, wild. Look at those white kids in seattle and portland, same thing. YES god those kids need a job and to be responsible. We know its not a bunch of old people acting up out there.
Respectfully, if someone has enough determination, they can stand on their own. One of my very closest friends grew up in the projects in Detroit, left when he was 15 to live with his g’ma in Atlanta, worked three jobs in college (we worked two together), graduated with a 3.7 GPA in accounting , and is a regional controller for a large residential real estate company. He had help from his g’ma in getting out of the projects, but he put in all of the effort required to build a life he is proud of.
Derek Thompson totally agree. As a father of 3 sons I shake in fear thinking of the day when my boys will have to leave and go out into the world as young men. All I can do is pray and hope that the upbringing they received as good enough to show them a better way.
It would be super interesting to compare these cities with their poverty rates, public education systems, rates of incarceration, unemployment rates, access to healthcare, etc.
I think it would be more interesting to discuss the fact that every one of these cities has been run by Democrats for decades and their downfall coincidentally began when they shattered the minority family by encouraging single motherhood and substituting the government (welfare) for a father figure. In Japan, and many Asian cultures, murder is seen as one of the WORST things you can do to someone (it probably is) but in some of those countries, if you murder someone, 99% chance you're going to be put to death or that is the only option, you don't get "life in prison" in many other countries, it's either you're cleared of your crime, or you're put to death.

He had a look like, that's unbelievable. I'm thinking like y'all from the home of the Bloods and the Crips, we been thought y'all was crazy!
I just can’t believe that so many people live with so much chaos in their lives, with no structure or definition. I can’t help but think about the fact that crime started to increase when the government started anti-poverty initiatives that gave women money for kicking the father out of the home and created a flood of single mothers. Prior to the 1960s, the marriage rates were really high, the crime rate was low, and it was highly unusual not to have a father in the home.
Crime also went down significantly two decades after the Roe v Wade decision of 1973. And some argue that the potential single mothers who would have given birth opted for abortions, and gladly saved society a whole lot of vices and pain from their fatherless children. Such kids would have been grown and troublesome from 1988 onwards, but crimes fell during that time. Others argue that new technologies in policing and surveillance were the reason for the reduction in crime rates over that period. It's safe to say fatherless children are trouble for society.

I have a biography about life in working-class east London (England) during the early 20th century. There was grinding poverty and hardship, but the majority of people were scrupulously honest and proud of it. There's a story of how a small boy came home with loads of stolen tomatoes, having raided a greengrocer's passing cart. His mother took him to the communal garbage disposal point in the tenement and ordered him to throw them all down it. They may have been poor and hungry, but they would not be eating stolen food. Here's an international perspective. I live in a small town in England- 20,000 inhabitants. In 10 years, we've had ONE murder, and that was a woman with a drink and drug problem who'd moved away. She came back to visit her mother, and ended up killing her. She was sent to a psychiatric unit, rather than prison. So, 1 murder in 10 years in a 20,000 population gives an annual murder rate of one in 200,000. I know I'm lucky to live here.

“Getting a damn job and being responsible” “Throw em all in jail” 🤦🏻♀️ poverty is so much deeper than that. For starters, all these areas have a lack of resources, especially available jobs and access to good education. So much more to it than just going out to get a job.

Thank you LBJ, for your "Great" society!

@@TJ-od5fg that’s because the worst parts of Chicago are more dangerous than any city. People fail to realize that the violence in every city happens in certain areas. Not a single neighborhood in St. Louis,Baltimore,Memphis, or Detroit have a higher murder rate than Englewood,Austin or Garfield park from Chicago. When it comes down to it chicago has the worst hoods by far

I'm from Baltimore and I moved 10 years ago I use to think homicide was a way of life until I moved somewhere where it wasn't now I don't worry about walking to the store getting shot by the way I was shot 12 times in Baltimore so I very familiar with the violence but I still have that Baltimore mentality in me which is a bonus for keeping me alive where I'm at live every day like it's your last is what I learned growing up in Baltimore and I wish my bm would let me take my kids away from there 🤔 but if you live there still be safe and watch your surroundings at all times 👀

As a person from New Jersey I was kinda surprised Newark was on the list. I knew it was bad but damn
What happened to all that money Zuckerberg gave "Cueball" Cory Booker to improve Newark?
Im from Jersey City, just as bad as Newark if not worse

Gotta love the fact that you give the option of “if you wanna get killed visit here”😆
Memphis gets a bad rep, but I love this city. Yes there is no denying there is a crime issue in a lot of areas, but don't let that persuade you into thinking the entire city is a dump, because it's just not.
I live here and i tell people the same thing
I’m from Miami and visited Memphis and it’s a great city but I’m sure it has its rough areas .

1:45 - Its not about guns. They arent hard to get here in Canada, even the illegal ones, and our rate is 1.5 (US is 5.35). Its about peoples willingness to kill versus find a less lethal option. Guns dont kill people, people kill people. Without someone pulling the trigger a gun doesnt do anything. And in some places they are more willing to do it than others.

@@Just_another_Euro_dude Japan and Europe have mass stabbings and other means of crime. Speaking of Europe, look at Switzerland's gun laws and you'll be shocked at how many people have guns. It's up to the individual that causes the violence, not the object. There are more guns in America than the people who live in it. The damage has already been done. If you simply just want to take guns away in America, It's too late for that. You really think a criminal is going to follow the law?
