The 10 Most DANGEROUS Cities in California

  • Holy crap! These are the places in California that are CRAZY dangerous!
Overall, crime in California is way above the national average. Currently, California is the 12th most dangerous state, and it’s getting more dangerous each year. There’s a lot of places here where it’s really safe, but some TERRIBLE areas where you shouldn’t go, even in the daytime.
So here we are in California. This is south Los Angeles. Now back in the 90s, this place was a real war zone. But most of the troublemakers left south LA decades ago, and now, this place isn’t so bad anymore. California’s full of surprises like that. In fact, look at this graph. In the early 90s, California’s crime was just about the highest in the nation. And today, it’s gone down a lot. But not in places like the ones we’ll talk about.

Not sure about today, but in the 20th century, you had folks from Bakersfield or nearby that lived their whole lives there that talked like Okies or Texans. Their parents went there during the Great Depression and brought their ways with them and they ended up talking and thinking like them.

As a British visitor, I found San Francisco incredibly scary, far worse than LA. The area near to the civic centre was full of homeless and addicts. I know people can’t always help their circumstances but it was very intimidating and disappointing. For years I had a romantic view of SF from television and films. The people were rude, not friendly and unhelpful, which was a contrast to the better parts of LA where people generally wanted to make us welcome.

@@YA-qj8fx I have always loved America because people are generally very kind, particularly if you need help but SF was very intimidating. When in Las Vegas we went on a coach tour with some lovely people from West Virginia and Wisconsin to the Grand Canyon and we are still in touch 25 years later and as I say the nice parts of LA, people were open and friendly. I suppose SF due to its immense wealth from Tech industries, will be a draw for disenfranchised people trying to make a new life, hence the homeless problem.

There’s many groups in the city that want to change Oakland for the “better” but essentially collect donations, don’t do anything and just pat themselves in the back. This place is the Wild West.

I got some free counseling sessions afterwards and had to get a copy of my police report. One day my counselor said "did you know you're actually a black man?" (I'm totally white, my assailant was black, not that it really matters) I asked her what are you talking about??? She said, "on your police report they put your race down as black." Why would they do that? Easy--it's so they could list as 'black on black' violent crime and that way they wouldn't have to investigate it. While I did have a lot of good times there too, I'm never going back to Oakland. Or CA.

He wasn’t that sharp, but told me he came with his parents from Mississippi when he was 10 years old and bought a home in the early 1970’s for $25,000 and been there every since in the same place and that he’d love to come to Alaska one day where I live. A common working man that lives in San Diego proper can afford it because he’s been there so long. That’s the key unless you’re in an extremely professional career or rich!

The local homeless would buzz his intercom and scream “Let us into your garage! We wanna break into your car!”. They also tried to break into his garage, but he would bring the hose through his living room and spray water out the window onto them, driving them away. He sold the house and moved away after that. Just saw San Francisco in the news and it was about a glass shortages for vehicles. The car break-ins are so out of control, the vehicle window replacement companies are having a tough time finding enough replacement glass windows to make the repairs. At the nicer hotels the staff will ask their tourist guests if they are planning to use a rental vehicle. They have been recommending to use transportation services such as Uber or taxis to their tourist destinations. Even in broad daylight you can witness car break-ins at all the popular tourist spots. Tony Bennett's iconic song for San Francisco no longer applies due to the eyesore and crimes that plague this once beautiful city. I worked at the Legion of Honor and the de Young Museums (probably the museums he was talking about in the video,) and we had big electronic billboards, and 3x5 cards that we had sitting on the front desk for every guest telling them to NOT LEAVE ANYTHING OF VALUE in their cars, that it was a high theft area. Inevitably there’d be someone crying and glass everywhere in the parking lot several times a day. Police patrolled, but until they start prosecuting these crimes, nobody was gonna stop. My husband and I have had our car windows smashed constantly when living by Golden Gate Park. And our car stolen a bunch of times when living by Twin Peaks. They target tourist because they assume they’ll have valuable stuff in their cars. It’s why I never want to live in a touristy area again. A famous author was murdered for his camera while standing out in front of his own house in the Haight Ashbury district a couple of years ago taking photos. They’ll smash your head and grab the camera from off of your body.

Boring though, because there's nothing but souvenir shops and little restaurants that only serve hamburgers and french fries. And imagine having to ride a boat every time you want to go to a department store, hardware store, grocery store that has everything, or to see a specialist doctor or dentist. And in the winter you can't even swim.

Around 1980, I drove down one of Oakland's boulevards at night. At an intersection of two of the widest, and busiest streets were about a dozen scantily dressed 'night girls' packed in a circle. I think they served as a collective lookout for cops. I guess the 'coast was clear', because when the light turned green, the circle opened up to reveal a topless woman in the center. I guess that's one way to advertise.

You can be surfing in the ocean and two hours later be skiing down a mountain. We have deserts and forests,Mountains and sea shores and everything in between. We have more diversity in everything than anyplace else in the world. If you want to hang around the cities and get mugged that is also available too. The Tenderloin area in San Francisco has the largest open air heroin exchange in the Northern Hemisphere if not the world. We also have Six Flags in Northern Cal and Magic Mountain in the south.

Cops say it all time that they wouldn't follow up on a police report if criminal trys go after property owner. What I'm told by em "its not what we know, but what we can prove" always ensure evidence points towards them as aggressor. A living born in San Francisco native is also hard to find; these places along the warm bay attract people from all over the country and the diversity of industries allows for a strong economy that attracts people from all over the world. I live right next to Richmond and North Richmond is especially iffy. My friend had been robbed multiple times in her own home until she moved more up Hilltop. My brother’s car was jacked and found abandoned in Vallejo without its battery and sadly, his sweater. Ask anyone that lives in or around Richmond and they’ll tell you their own stories or stories they’ve heard. My parent’s car were literally broken into multiple times without them taking anything. They wrote “mofo” on the screens piled with dust and just created a mess without taking anything- confusing but funny. I also take the Richmond/Beryessa Bart route and the stops around Oakland-Coliseum always brings the scary looking people. Drug addicts that pace back and forth and overall unpredictable.

Me and my boyfriend at the time stopped at a burger place to get food, and while we were waiting, two tweakers started fighting each other in the restaurant. One pulled out a pocket knife and the other picked up a chair. The one tweaker put the chair down and grabbed a broom instead, and threw it at the other tweak. They started screaming and running all over the place. Everyone in the restaurant were bursting out laughing, all me and my ex could do was just sit there shocked.

Berkeley here: this city has gone down dramatically in the 18 years I've lived here and there are no signs of it getting any better, only worse because of it being sandwiched between Oakland and Richmond. Strongarm robberies of people's laptops are a regular occurrence in the coffeeshops, day or night and the police response is next to useless - they're too busy doing whatever it is that they do to address crime problems in a meaningful way. The streets are decrepit and nearly undriveable in some places, with so many homeless encampments with feces and vomit on the sidewalks to make your walk a little more interesting. The homeless are often aggressive, sometimes coming into places of business, like restaurants and cafes, to hit people up for money or to destroy the restrooms with excrement or graffiti.
