UPerfect X14 Pro Wireless LapDock: Can we FINALLY cut the cable?

  • TEAM SGG PATREON / somegadgetguy UPerfect X14 Pro review! I'm a huge fan of lapdocks and portable displays. The X14 Pro is a great example of a portable battery powered display, and it adds one HIGHLY requested feature. Folks asking for wireless connectivity, we can now connect phones and computers to this dock WITHOUT a cable. What does that really look like though? Is it as functional as we've been hoping? What about the battery life? Let's take a look!

Something that wasn’t mentioned was that this also doubles as just a bluetooth keyboard and mouse combo. So if your steam deck is plugged into a tv across the room, you could still control it with the lower latency of just the bluetooth.

What I love about this particular lapdock is that UPERFECT now gives the flexibility of going wired or wireless since you still have USB-C IN and HDMI IN port. If UPERFECT can do this similar trick with the X Pro 15.6" detachable screen lapdock, I'd be more than happy to buy one.

    • @SomeGadgetGuy

I got one for $229 and I love it. I sometimes plug in my Switch but I mostly use it with my Galaxy phone with Dex. I am surprised how fast it is. Everything runs so well and the cool thing is when I upgrade my phone, I also upgrade my laptop. And I don't ever have to use my phone as a hotspot or try and connect it to wifi when I'm out and about. My phone is 5g so my laptop is always 5g - Awesome!

Battery life is essential for my on the go lifestyle and the Upferfect X Mini has helped me really achieve a good on the go balance. This wireless option is fantastic for those that would like the option to loose the cable and really should be supported.
I think they have listened to every request we have asked from them, except maybe a 4k version and fast charge in the same Form factor i.e keyboard and screen in a laptop shell.
One thing that few consider is that these devices are also superb if you are trying save on the electricity bill or in an area with regular powercuts and still want to keep yourself or the kids entertained..

I still doubt wireless can replace cable for high speed data transfer and high resolution casting, but casual use should be good enough.
If there's one gripe I have with this particular lapdock, it still doesn't have a third USB port. That is an area where NexDock excels well.

I used to use a Pepper Job portable monitor, bluetooth mouse and keyboard with my Huawei p30 pro smartphone and then Motorola Edge 20 pro. But recently decided to update to a lap dock after getting a bit fed up of having to carry round and connecting to a seperate mouse, keyboard and monitor. Here in Poland the Uperfect X 14 pro wireless was available on allegro for a prise of 1,788 zl or about 407 us dollar cut down to 1699 zl or 387 us dollars compared to the prise of 1900zl or 433 us dollars. I got the lap dock 5 days after ordering it on-line. The lag when using wireless was not bad at all and was not a deal breaker for me. The wired use was better but the wireless was not too much worse. All in all it is better then using a seperate portable monitor, bluetooth mouse and keyboard. The lag on wireless is still better than the lag on wired connection to a laptop. that is my take on this hardware. Love you channel , keep ut the good work.

I use the HP lapfock daily. I use wireless pretty much all of the time. I'm spoiled by the HP and have been waiting on other companies to add the wireless. Now they just need to add premium speakers (the hp has B&O) and I need a unit as small as the hp and I will be grabbing one of these. Otherwise my hp has been going strong for 5 years and will hopefully last another 5 years.

One more thought. This is an amazing accessory for an iPad as well. Instead of getting a Magic Keyboard accessory, something like a lap dock is probably a better option. You can use the extra screen if you have one of the new m1 iPads and you get keyboard and trackpad as you would on a Magic Keyboard cover.

I'd honestly avoid this company. I had their lapdock's battery deteriorate down to an hour battery life, and I spent an ungodly number of email exchanges trying to get them to send me the details of how to ship back their product to fix it, only for them to keep saying how long it will take because the warehouse is in China.
It would've taken lesser time for me to ship the unit back for exchange under warranty and to receive it than reading their excuses about the long repair time. The customer support was insistent on providing me a discount voucher on my next product, but I insisted that I wanted a partial refund instead. 4 months after my initial email for warranty exchange, I finally received my partial refund. 4 months is simply unacceptable, and each day of waiting was just a day nearer to the end of their so-called warranty period.
Therefore, I've concluded that their warranty is a scam and people should steer clear of their products.

Couldn't you connect your Steamdeck to a small dongle with PD passthrough and then connect that to a NexDock or Uperfect device and use that to charge both the Steamdeck or ROG Ally and the NexDock or Uperfect devices? Could possibly connect to a big portable battery as well. Sure it would be cool to have the functionality built into a device like this but a cheap dongle that costs like $20 or $30 would likely cost significantly less than including a 65W+ charging capacity into a lapdock.

Yes, you can definitely do that. At the end of the day, this is still an external monitor but happened to be inside a laptop shell.

Also, quick note on wanting to use a regular computer to turn your phone into a laggier computer, I have a cheap laptop I bought years ago for 500, my phone at the time was a Nexus 6p and it was already more powerful. If I could use my laggy OnePlus 8pro on this pathetically weak computer, I would have more reason to keep it and it would be more powerful.

I bought my secondhand Huawei Mate 20 for the equivalent of $130 and it make an absolute minced meat of my 2014 HP laptop with Intel Pentium CPU despite having it upgraded to 8GB RAM and SATA SSD.
