IMO for why RWBY isn't green lit for season 10: The reason has to do with the writing, they've power crept the world of RWBY so much that they physically just don't know HOW to end it, thats the problem with villains that are evil just to be evil and especially ones that are pretty much immortal and way more powerful than everyone (Power Creep). They hyped up Salem SOOOO much that they can't find a good way for the story to actually make a turning point for Ruby to win in a way that isn't cheap. The only way I can see this realistically ending is if the two brothers (gods) get involved directly to end it. Otherwise there can really be no "satisfying" ending to RWBY because of all the poor writing choices in the past and having to deal with those choices now. Which is unfortunate cus I love RWBY and have stuck with it in its good and bad times and want it to have a satisfying end.
@@DocMicrowave Definitely agree with you, i feel like they did the horrible power scaling specifically cus of how powerful Salem is and how she is an immortal being that has next to no weaknesses automatically makes half the characters useless in the plot (like Glynda Goodwitch who hasn't really been seen since season 4 i think but was supposed to be this super powerful huntsman in season 1). I also definitely see what you mean when you say it varies depending on the scene, like Ruby MASTERED, or at least knows how to use, her silver eyes and never uses them again (or whenever shes about to "use it" she gets hit with a sneak attack or something right before she finishes).
@DocMicrowave since Raven can use a portal to get to Yang quickly, it's not so odd. But there may have been another reason. I believe the writers' reason for it was to allow the meet-up at the end to happen as quickly as possible in-universe. And also to set up that Raven is important again in the Vacuo arc. The "epilogue" is 6 minutes, but there was more to it that involved setting up the Vacuo arc. The writers cut that part out though because they didn't want to show it yet, whatever it is.
@DocMicrowave the epilogue is actually canon and would have been in the final version of Volume 9. It will now be in Volume 10. Volume 9 had 12 episodes originally, but 2 episodes had to be cut because of budget. The epilogue is the second half of Volume 9's original finale. (You can see that it is labeled as Chapter 12 in the videos.)
@@DocMicrowave There are a few faulty things here. 1 - in my interpretation, the ending of Volume 9 (as we saw it) was originally how Volume 9 Chapter 11 ended, and the epilogue is how Volume 9 Chapter 12 would have ended. The arrival in Vacuo does feel conclusive, but more stuff happened afterward that got cut. 2 - The crossover movies did not take time or resources away from the main RWBY series _at all_. That's not how budgets work. They each had their own pools of money to work from. It's sort of a long story but the crossover films saved V9 more than they hurt it. V9's delay was caused by some of its own production issues, and the crew worked on the crossover _because_ V9 was having problems, not the other way around.
If RT has to start relying on fan donations to get RWBY going, then they are clearly not doing well financially. Don't forget about all the scummy things that have happened behind the scenes at RT (bullying, underpaying staff, lots of crunch time, just to name a few). Think before you give them your money (better to spend your hard earned money elsewhere).
They should just do a gofundme at this point. People want it badly enough. Let the fans chip in to make it happen. Maybe that could push Crunchyroll enough to fund the rest of it.
They couldn't even do fan funding back during 2021 when the snow storm hit Texas. Remember when MurderofBirds and Calxiyn set one up because the crew were struggling during those times? And they were told by RT at first they would accept the funds but then later they were prohibited from taking those funds. I don't think a Patreon or GoFundMe will ever be an option.
For me, the most exciting news here, at this time, is the release date for the Volume 9 soundtrack. In particular, I've been eager to hear the full version of the song "Worthy."
Hell, the way WBD is going we’re probably seeing the best-case scenario. “Not dead” is a helluva lot better than some of their other properties have faired. RT’s gotta tread lightly and stay on the right side of the spreadsheet, make themselves useful to business daddy, and keep their nose clean. The trick is gonna be jingling enough keys to keep the fans sidetracked long enough for that to happen. I still think we’ll eventually get V10, but if it’s before Fall 2025 I’ll be (pleasantly) astounded. Curious to see what they’ve got in store for Camp Camp and RvB……
I like to think the deleted scene Is Canon because it's a good scene and I don't want it to go to waste. Sure it wasn't 3D animated, but there was storyboards and voice acting involved.
Good on you for reminding folks that CRWBY has been in this funding situation before, and fairly recently. That definitely helps combat any latent "the sky is falling" tendencies. Also, as much as I enjoyed the animatic, I can absolutely see why it was cut for budgetary restraints. The Ever After was grand and complex enough already, and having to make up the crowds and scenery for Vacuo for a very short scene that doesn't get any reuse in Vol 9 feels like a misguided use of those resources, however earnest. It kind of reminds me of how I feel about Alyx--she has a fully rendered model, but she was barely in any scenes beyond the opening, which makes me think she likely had a much bigger or maybe a more fully rendered presence in the first draft (maybe fully animated flashbacks instead of just motion graphics?)
Thank you! About Alyx, I don't think the flashback illustrations were meant to be 3D because that would get expensive quickly. I'm almost certain she didn't appear in any scenes beyond what was shown even if her minimal presence feels off. As for the cut episode, part of that animatic shows a timestamp of at least 14 minutes, so it would have been a fuller episode of catching the plot back up to Vacuo's situation. However, as you said, the reunion is nice but the Chapter 10 finale still hits the narrative beat well enough without having to create so many new assets. It reminds me of how the Volume 7 premiere was once the Volume 6 finale - it works a lot better as a premiere because of how much it introduces rather than concludes.

For real! They showed a new episode of Camp Camp at the con, and it was amazing. You should look forward to it! All I'll say is the episode was written in a way where the writers probably thought it would be the final episode at the time, so it offers narrative closure. I thought it would be the final one forever, and then a few minutes later they revealed there would be even more episodes!
Winter saying it's better Weiss isn't here to see this (basically that Weiss isn't alive!) to me sounds like she's suffering dangerous levels of depression. I have a feeling Qrow is going to end up lending her a hand because he seems to be doing surprisingly well and will likely be the best person to talk her out of her cynicism and isolation given that's where he used to be. Along with helping Willow with her recovery from alcoholism. Given the hinting in vol 2 of chemistry between them I have a feeling they're going to end up a couple by the end and that Robyn might end up being more like a friend, she seems to have a lot of playful comeraderie with him which may be replacing Clover except I don't think we'll necessarily get the end game romance - maybe a romance fake-out miscommunication though where she tells him "uh... sorry... I thought you knew I'm actually a lesbian" (would make sense that she's interested in May Marigold given she's the Maid Marion depiction). I'm also saying that because given there's only one on-screen main canonical LGBTQIA+ romance I think we will see more, and that Scarlet and Nolan will finally appear on screen. On that note am 100% sure we will see other pairings before the end, obviously Weiss and Jaune as hinted, and likely Yatsuhashi and Velvet whom the books seem to hint at a particularly close partnership between. I have a feeling if not Robyn then at least some of her huntresses will turn out to be lesbian or bi. Given the books mentioned that Coco is a lesbian I am thinking Coco Adel will probably end up with one them - whoever is age-appropriate and has the most style as Coco loves that badass stylish women... though it'd be interesting if she ends up having her head turned and her ideas challenged by a girl who is totally butch that she initially underestimates that who ends up surprising her (cause function over form seems the fashion among the Atlas people). I can totally see a rivals-to-lovers arc or implied arc happening with Coco and one of the other particularly dominant and strong-minded women. If it weren't for Ren I'd 100% have predicted her and Nora as a perfectly complemented match, including in their combat styles and weapon choices. 🤔 Also we still don't know the orientations of the remaining Ace Ops.
I started watching rwby about 4 months ago and just finished the series about a week ago, and this news is really disappointing. I don't think it will be the end of the show, it could slowly die down but considering the demand they likely will eventually get funding after a few years, but ngl rly disappointing to finally get caught up thinking it was in a stable position and then be told its gonna be delayed by years at best and might not even continue.
I agree that it's pretty odd of a place for a hiatus. And I know the overall reception was strong - they shared a bit about that at RTX, too, but I forget how they worded that. But RWBY isn't canceled or anything. It's basically just looking for more money to be able to continue. So we'll see Volume 10 once they are able to make it happen.

If you are referring to the 2D animated shorts that are currently being released, those are "RWBY Volume 9 Beyond," which are separate side stories and are not Volume 10. If you are referring to the statements the crew made at RTX 2023 about how "They're working on what they can," those statements don't mean it was greenlit. Greenlighting something means giving a project a budget so that every last person involved is paid to make it. Not only two or three people. But if you're referring to something else, please let me know.

it's more of a problem for RWBY though because of the decline the show and RT as a whole has been on for years. that paired with alot of poor financial decisions (like making RWBY unavailable on their own site and putting money they don't have into other projects like rwby x justice league) makes it less and less likely that they can get volume 10 greenlit or fund it via crowdfunding. i dont know if RT is really capable of playing the same game as other creators at this point
I agree with the general sentiments about the company's decline, but I have to add something. I understand why people think it, but the Justice League films themselves being a poor financial choice for RT is not so true. The money for those movies came from Warner Bros, who were not financing the show proper. So that money could not have gone to the show itself. Kerry actually clarified that those films were made partly because RT couldn't greenlight anything else, so those movies were kinda the only way they could guarantee they could keep the crew employed. That's not exactly reassuring to hear as a fan or anything. They're plainly not doing well as a studio. They barely even exist right now. Most likely yes. Though once the greenlight announcement happens, it will likely not take as long to develop as Volume 9 did. Volume 9 had a lengthy "delay" after Volume 8 because of the two movies. Plus some production setbacks behind the scenes. Assuming it's the only thing they'll be working on, Volume 10 should be speedier to make than Volume 9 at the very least.

Good question. I explained this at around 00:57 in the video. "Being greenlit" means being given the money to make a show. So in other words, Rooster Teeth Animation does not currently have the money to make Volume 10. It doesn't mean that they "stopped" making it or that RWBY is canceled. It just means that they aren't able to make it right now, but they are constantly looking for ways to get the funding they need so that they can eventually make it.

I thought V10 was greenlit at the same time V9 was. I loved RWBY, at least until V9. There were always little things that I just tried to overlook, but the overarching story and likeable characters and enjoyable interactions carried the day. Until V9. V9 was like a completely different show, with 5 of the same characters - sort of. Nothing of the overarching story against Salem, nothing about Qrow and Robin and the survivors of Atlas, nothing about Vaccuo, and nothing about Ren and Nora. We got a bunch of new characters, that I couldn't care about because I knew they had nothing to do with anything, and once this volume was over, or even the episode, we would never see them again. Jaune went back in time for 30 years and did nothing except wait for the girls to show up. I hate V9. V5, which was the previous worse Volume, I still enjoyed. V9 took all the momentum the show had been building and brought it to a dead stop. I went from looking forward to every episode to just not wanting to watch it anymore. If there is no V10, I will be sad the Kerry killed a show with his stupid fkn Wonderland idea.
Volumes 7-9 were greenlit all at once, but now we're waiting on Volume 10. I know that the lack of focus on Remnant was a huge turnoff for many, and it's unfortunate to know that it was there originally but had to be cut for budget. But I would still encourage looking at Volume 9 through the lens of Ruby's character and the world building of the show overall too. In my opinion, this isn't the last we'll see of the tree or Blacksmith, especially since they're tied to the brother gods.
@@robinrising_ The tree and the Blacksmith are a way to "fix" Salem. If there's anything of value in V9 to be salvaged, that's it. It's unnecessary. If you still doing world building in V9, then your not building new, your retconning what you did before. There was no need for any of this, and it brought the series to a dead stop, when there was so much going on. Now how do we find out what happened to the rest of the characters? So much of what could have been great was sacrificed on the altar of "let's got to Wonderland". It was a filler arc of no value.

@DocMicrowave the epilogue is actually canon and would have been in the final version of Volume 9. It will now be in Volume 10. Volume 9 had 12 episodes originally, but 2 episodes had to be cut because of budget. The epilogue is the second half of Volume 9's original finale. (You can see that it is labeled as Chapter 12 in the videos.)
@@DocMicrowave There are a few faulty things here.
1 - in my interpretation, the ending of Volume 9 (as we saw it) was originally how Volume 9 Chapter 11 ended, and the epilogue is how Volume 9 Chapter 12 would have ended. The arrival in Vacuo does feel conclusive, but more stuff happened afterward that got cut.
2 - The crossover movies did not take time or resources away from the main RWBY series _at all_. That's not how budgets work. They each had their own pools of money to work from.
It's sort of a long story but the crossover films saved V9 more than they hurt it. V9's delay was caused by some of its own production issues, and the crew worked on the crossover _because_ V9 was having problems, not the other way around.
If RT has to start relying on fan donations to get RWBY going, then they are clearly not doing well financially. Don't forget about all the scummy things that have happened behind the scenes at RT (bullying, underpaying staff, lots of crunch time, just to name a few). Think before you give them your money (better to spend your hard earned money elsewhere).
They should just do a gofundme at this point. People want it badly enough. Let the fans chip in to make it happen. Maybe that could push Crunchyroll enough to fund the rest of it.
They couldn't even do fan funding back during 2021 when the snow storm hit Texas. Remember when MurderofBirds and Calxiyn set one up because the crew were struggling during those times? And they were told by RT at first they would accept the funds but then later they were prohibited from taking those funds. I don't think a Patreon or GoFundMe will ever be an option.

Hell, the way WBD is going we’re probably seeing the best-case scenario. “Not dead” is a helluva lot better than some of their other properties have faired. RT’s gotta tread lightly and stay on the right side of the spreadsheet, make themselves useful to business daddy, and keep their nose clean. The trick is gonna be jingling enough keys to keep the fans sidetracked long enough for that to happen.
I still think we’ll eventually get V10, but if it’s before Fall 2025 I’ll be (pleasantly) astounded.

Good on you for reminding folks that CRWBY has been in this funding situation before, and fairly recently. That definitely helps combat any latent "the sky is falling" tendencies. Also, as much as I enjoyed the animatic, I can absolutely see why it was cut for budgetary restraints. The Ever After was grand and complex enough already, and having to make up the crowds and scenery for Vacuo for a very short scene that doesn't get any reuse in Vol 9 feels like a misguided use of those resources, however earnest.
It kind of reminds me of how I feel about Alyx--she has a fully rendered model, but she was barely in any scenes beyond the opening, which makes me think she likely had a much bigger or maybe a more fully rendered presence in the first draft (maybe fully animated flashbacks instead of just motion graphics?)
Thank you! About Alyx, I don't think the flashback illustrations were meant to be 3D because that would get expensive quickly. I'm almost certain she didn't appear in any scenes beyond what was shown even if her minimal presence feels off.
As for the cut episode, part of that animatic shows a timestamp of at least 14 minutes, so it would have been a fuller episode of catching the plot back up to Vacuo's situation. However, as you said, the reunion is nice but the Chapter 10 finale still hits the narrative beat well enough without having to create so many new assets. It reminds me of how the Volume 7 premiere was once the Volume 6 finale - it works a lot better as a premiere because of how much it introduces rather than concludes.

As a camp camp and rwby fan, i am crying both happy and sad tears.
For real! They showed a new episode of Camp Camp at the con, and it was amazing. You should look forward to it! All I'll say is the episode was written in a way where the writers probably thought it would be the final episode at the time, so it offers narrative closure. I thought it would be the final one forever, and then a few minutes later they revealed there would be even more episodes!

Winter saying it's better Weiss isn't here to see this (basically that Weiss isn't alive!) to me sounds like she's suffering dangerous levels of depression. I have a feeling Qrow is going to end up lending her a hand because he seems to be doing surprisingly well and will likely be the best person to talk her out of her cynicism and isolation given that's where he used to be. Along with helping Willow with her recovery from alcoholism.
Given the hinting in vol 2 of chemistry between them I have a feeling they're going to end up a couple by the end and that Robyn might end up being more like a friend, she seems to have a lot of playful comeraderie with him which may be replacing Clover except I don't think we'll necessarily get the end game romance - maybe a romance fake-out miscommunication though where she tells him "uh... sorry... I thought you knew I'm actually a lesbian" (would make sense that she's interested in May Marigold given she's the Maid Marion depiction).
I'm also saying that because given there's only one on-screen main canonical LGBTQIA+ romance I think we will see more, and that Scarlet and Nolan will finally appear on screen.
On that note am 100% sure we will see other pairings before the end, obviously Weiss and Jaune as hinted, and likely Yatsuhashi and Velvet whom the books seem to hint at a particularly close partnership between.
I have a feeling if not Robyn then at least some of her huntresses will turn out to be lesbian or bi.
Given the books mentioned that Coco is a lesbian I am thinking Coco Adel will probably end up with one them - whoever is age-appropriate and has the most style as Coco loves that badass stylish women... though it'd be interesting if she ends up having her head turned and her ideas challenged by a girl who is totally butch that she initially underestimates that who ends up surprising her (cause function over form seems the fashion among the Atlas people). I can totally see a rivals-to-lovers arc or implied arc happening with Coco and one of the other particularly dominant and strong-minded women.
If it weren't for Ren I'd 100% have predicted her and Nora as a perfectly complemented match, including in their combat styles and weapon choices. 🤔

I started watching rwby about 4 months ago and just finished the series about a week ago, and this news is really disappointing. I don't think it will be the end of the show, it could slowly die down but considering the demand they likely will eventually get funding after a few years, but ngl rly disappointing to finally get caught up thinking it was in a stable position and then be told its gonna be delayed by years at best and might not even continue.
I just finished the volume 9 half an hour ago. We all need the story to be finished!

I agree that it's pretty odd of a place for a hiatus. And I know the overall reception was strong - they shared a bit about that at RTX, too, but I forget how they worded that.
But RWBY isn't canceled or anything. It's basically just looking for more money to be able to continue. So we'll see Volume 10 once they are able to make it happen.

If you are referring to the 2D animated shorts that are currently being released, those are "RWBY Volume 9 Beyond," which are separate side stories and are not Volume 10.
If you are referring to the statements the crew made at RTX 2023 about how "They're working on what they can," those statements don't mean it was greenlit. Greenlighting something means giving a project a budget so that every last person involved is paid to make it. Not only two or three people.
But if you're referring to something else, please let me know.

it's more of a problem for RWBY though because of the decline the show and RT as a whole has been on for years. that paired with alot of poor financial decisions (like making RWBY unavailable on their own site and putting money they don't have into other projects like rwby x justice league) makes it less and less likely that they can get volume 10 greenlit or fund it via crowdfunding. i dont know if RT is really capable of playing the same game as other creators at this point
I agree with the general sentiments about the company's decline, but I have to add something.
I understand why people think it, but the Justice League films themselves being a poor financial choice for RT is not so true. The money for those movies came from Warner Bros, who were not financing the show proper. So that money could not have gone to the show itself. Kerry actually clarified that those films were made partly because RT couldn't greenlight anything else, so those movies were kinda the only way they could guarantee they could keep the crew employed.
That's not exactly reassuring to hear as a fan or anything. They're plainly not doing well as a studio. They barely even exist right now. But I just rather everyone work with the facts when there are definite facts.

Honestly with that epilogue they could use that for the beginning of Volume 10. Tbh volume 10 could be the end or 11, since they said RWBY was going to have 12 volume but hey let’s see what happens. We have WB wanting to do the part 2 of the movie since the first part was mediocre.

Most likely yes. Though once the greenlight announcement happens, it will likely not take as long to develop as Volume 9 did. Volume 9 had a lengthy "delay" after Volume 8 because of the two movies. Plus some production setbacks behind the scenes. Assuming it's the only thing they'll be working on, Volume 10 should be speedier to make than Volume 9 at the very least.

Good question. I explained this at around 00:57 in the video. "Being greenlit" means being given the money to make a show. So in other words, Rooster Teeth Animation does not currently have the money to make Volume 10. It doesn't mean that they "stopped" making it or that RWBY is canceled. It just means that they aren't able to make it right now, but they are constantly looking for ways to get the funding they need so that they can eventually make it.

I thought V10 was greenlit at the same time V9 was.
I loved RWBY, at least until V9. There were always little things that I just tried to overlook, but the overarching story and likeable characters and enjoyable interactions carried the day. Until V9.
V9 was like a completely different show, with 5 of the same characters - sort of.
Nothing of the overarching story against Salem, nothing about Qrow and Robin and the survivors of Atlas, nothing about Vaccuo, and nothing about Ren and Nora. We got a bunch of new characters, that I couldn't care about because I knew they had nothing to do with anything, and once this volume was over, or even the episode, we would never see them again.
Jaune went back in time for 30 years and did nothing except wait for the girls to show up.
I hate V9. V5, which was the previous worse Volume, I still enjoyed. V9 took all the momentum the show had been building and brought it to a dead stop. I went from looking forward to every episode to just not wanting to watch it anymore.
If there is no V10, I will be sad the Kerry killed a show with his stupid fkn Wonderland idea.
Volumes 7-9 were greenlit all at once, but now we're waiting on Volume 10. I know that the lack of focus on Remnant was a huge turnoff for many, and it's unfortunate to know that it was there originally but had to be cut for budget. But I would still encourage looking at Volume 9 through the lens of Ruby's character and the world building of the show overall too. In my opinion, this isn't the last we'll see of the tree or Blacksmith, especially since they're tied to the brother gods.

It's unnecessary. If you still doing world building in V9, then your not building new, your retconning what you did before. There was no need for any of this, and it brought the series to a dead stop, when there was so much going on. Now how do we find out what happened to the rest of the characters? So much of what could have been great was sacrificed on the altar of "let's got to Wonderland". It was a filler arc of no value.
