  • This is a tutorial on tearing down a heater that was running a high exhaust temp. The heat exchanger tubes were sooted and limed up, causing the exhaust temp to be excessive. The buildup on the tubes does not allow enough heat to transfer to the water. The extra heat goes out the exhaust causing the stack flue sensor error code.

    Never understood why these lower btu models don’t have 6 coils like the higher btu model. Heat transfer is all about surface area and 6 would make it way more efficient

    One important note with the ignitor being so fragile remove it first before pulling the top plate and put it back in last after the top is back in place. Broke 2 in this process

    Lol what the customer get charged for this? That unit would continue to run without faults at that stack temp. But yes it’s technically to high. But given the age of that heater I don’t know that the cost of the repairs is worth it.

    Pentair/stay worst, junky heaters don't buy these. There is a reason why i can move it all by myself.

      The control board is looking for a hard short from the AFS as soon as the blower turns on. Watch "PENTAIR MASTERTEMP 400 POOL/SPA HEATER AFS AIR FLOW SWITCH ERROR LIGHT REPAIR" on TH-cam

      Stack flue sensor. Either its bad or ur exhaust temp is too high, causing the heater to shut down.

    • @braydinjones6301
      @braydinjones6301 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      First thing id do is take a reading of the flue temp with an infrared thermometer. If that is fine, then replace the stack flue sensor. Simple as that. Things that could cause high temp are things lke the gas pressure being set too high or an exhaust blockage.
