Thanks for your video. I had the flu senser replaced and now they say it's the control board. My mastertemp is a 200 so I will confirm the correct control board. Thanks for your great video.
Check page 45 of the manual- it has a nice flow chart on troubleshooting. When u say u have nothing, is the display blank? Any light coming on? Could be a power supply issue, maybe even the AC power circuit breaker. Follow the troubleshooting flowchart- it’s very well done.
I just started using a spray on conformal coating for the new boards that I install. I own a small pool company and I have about 10 of these heaters on my route. This is my second year using the conformal coating, so I don't have any long term observations. Just trying to have less repair jobs and save my clients some money.
Was getting an E05 fault on my Pentair MasterTemp 200. Replaced stack flue sensor and still had the same fault. The thermal regulator was sticking after doing the hot water test so I replaced it also. Replacing the control board is what got rid of the E05 fault though. Thanks for the tip on painting the board! These boards are definitely not built for the harsh winters we have in Michigan. I'll be taking it off in the Fall and painting it just before closing the pool.
Well, I'm not sure, but the one is this video was done in 2014 and we used it this past winter (I had some other minor issues with other stuff, but not circuit board related). I have heard that the new heater model circuit board is now covered with conformal coating.
I replaced mine 4 years ago and now im getting erroneous info on the readout. I replaced the pad, no change. The heater works but i the readout skips many temps, lines arent lighting up so i cant tell if its a three or a two, etc. i guess im going to have to replace again. $370
Awesome. My Board just ordered. hope to have it by the weekend. Nothing on mine when I hit the power. totally dead. Pentair support and I tested the voltage coming into the box and its good. Hoping its the controller board as well. Thanks for the upload!
I just fixed e05 error , sfs , was bad trace on board . Follow traces for white wires . Soldered a wire in to jump out open trace , working like a charm
mohammed qumruzzaman the sfs can be checked with a meter, if it checks out ( which in your case being new ) the only thing is the wiring or board . When you remove the board you will most likely find signs of corrosion. Also when you hold down the pool button for a few seconds it will display exhaust temp from sfs . If it is climbing as it heats your good , in your case it will flash 40/80 and shutdown. eBay a board .
Would have been nice to announce what the initial symptom was it was showing….starting up and shutting off? Throwing codes? Or no power on the display at all….was it throwing the fireman’s switch fuse each time? Proper voltage after the transformer of 24-26v? But hey, better than nothing I guess
It was just giving the “needs service” code and not operating after the initial startup sequence. I went thru all of the interlocks, and had them working properly, but kept shutting off. The pentair flowchart shows to replace the circuit board if you have exhausted all of the other shutdown possibilities.
Can you please describe what the problem initially was with your heater? I have the same heater, its not throwing any codes, once powered on it immediately trips the Service Heater LED. The Display works but does not respond to any butting pushes (SPA / Pool etc) -None of the start up process happens. -The back of the board gives the SFS LED fault light but the Flue Stack Sensor meters fine (replacing anyway) -I replaced the Thermal Regulator also (it was also faulty) but didn't fix the problem. I am guessing you had the same issues that I am having. Nice tip with the Urethane. Last thing, you're in Shiner, why on earth are you drinking a Miller when you can have a fresh from the brewery Shiner Bock ;) Thanks for the vid.
Before condemning the board, remove all connectors and spray the board front and back, and terminals with electrical contact cleaner. It doesn't leave a residue, and it sometimes brings electronics back to life. Contact cleaner can be purchased in the big box stores.
Super video! How come your tummy, pants and flip-flop shoes look JUST LIKE me?? You think and act just like me! I, too, would transfer those cables one-by-one to the new board to make sure I didn't forget where they go as I installed! Now... HOW did you determine the problem was your ($$$) control board, not the membrane panel or the transformer or the simple fuse before you decided to replace just the control board? That's where I am right now.... (October 2022, Las Vegas, NV) Wait a minute! At 10:45, you pop up with a remote control panel/board/device in your hand to start it up! WHERE THE HECK DID YOU GET THAT???? I've never seen one. Please describe and tell us all about it! I sit in my hot tub and have to get out, drag my ass over to the pump and heater, to reset anything -- valves, pumps, temp, etc! Who makes that and what does it cost???
Thank you. The flow chart in the back of the Pentair instruction manual is pretty clear, and if you follow it you confirm several interlocks are working correctly. Once those are confirmed to be working correctly, the last option is to replace the control board. The remote is an EasyTouch wireless remote- you can Google that and they will come up, although you can now get an internet interface and you can use an app on your phone to control the pool via internet. As a side note, that board I installed to make this video is still working, as is that remote control that was originally purchased in 2009. Good Luck!
Thanks for the video. Would have loved to watch how you painted it but just got a hairy belly :) Did you paint over the service led lights on the board?
John Mercer , Good Morning John. I replace the blowers often. I will try to remember to make one. There's is a few intricate things to remember, but overall it is straight forward remove and replace.
This video was extremely useful in helping me diagnose and fix my Pentair Master Temp heater. Thank you!

Thanks for video. Helped me a bunch. Cheers with a Miller Lite
So I believe mine needs a board when I turn it on I get nothing no blower nothing

VERY much appreciated. Unbelievable that these stupid things are design as such, and the boards rust out. Same thing happened to me.
Same issue... Great video, thanks for taking the time to do this.

How long should the control board last?

Quick update. Jan 2021 and the same board is still working perfectly.

So I believe. My board is bad as well same thing yours was doing but I have a rev c do you know what the difference is in rev l ?
I just fixed e05 error , sfs , was bad trace on board . Follow traces for white wires . Soldered a wire in to jump out open trace , working like a charm
I am having eo5 errors too. I replaced stack flue sensor but still having the e05 within 30 seconds. Should I change the board??

Will need a 16-oz beer tomorrow. Watched the whole video. Thanks for the info. Cheers.

How much did u get the board for??
Found on Amazon for $ 349.99 from 'Swimables" or something like that!
Thanks for the video. Would have loved to watch how you painted it but just got a hairy belly :) Did you paint over the service led lights on the board?

But it won't start..... can I hire ur servicrs.. if u r in Salt Lake City Utah....
love your secret success... thanks for the good video
Thanks! Easy fix! Anyone know of a video to replace the blower motor?

did your keypad have any power to it before you replaced the board (ie any lights or functions available?
yes
Nice!. Good info.
Nice job......
