Kinda weird how you say it is "like a love child between the Fiat 500 and the Ford Ka", while most of all, it looks very much like the original Twingo, which had a distinct and iconic design on its own.
The Fiat 500 and Ford Ka were siblings built on the same production line in Poland. Ford used the Fiat platform as they couldn’t afford to build an entry level model off the more sophisticated Fiesta platform.
If the final production version looks like this "concept" version - and the numbers (£, range, etc) stack up - then Renault should be on to a winner for those of us looking for a small city car.
Think only change might be wheels, very hard to see or notice if there is a slight overhang as in come out slightly compared to body. Though might be camera angle trick.

Renault keep smashing it.... Thank god they are NOT swallowed into that god awful Stellantis Group! Renault are standing alone at trying to build affordable/practical & stylish BEVs. Just hope they are successful in keeping it affordable in the real world.
Renault has Nissan in their group too. That's great because Nissan are preparing production for solid state batteries, and hopefully Renault cars will benefit from it.
@@jbmaru Totally logical that they still have links. I'm sure it's to do with Nissan's credit rating which was lowered to "junk". I'm sure Renault wanted to pull away to have their own credit rating. The next 5 years will be very interesting.
They're not 'city' cars! They're just cars with slightly shorter range for people who don't do motorway distances on a regular basis. These cars are perfectly happy in the countryside, suburbs, towns and, yes, cities. Stop encouraging people to view them as being limited to cities.
100% that used to drive me nuts in my Smart car. It's a city car! You can't drive it on a motorway! It's not safe! You can only carry well over one shopping trolley of groceries in the boot, so it's got a small boot, despite the litre volume being surprisingly close to a Fiesta or similar! You can't carry 4 people. No, really mate, you think a criticism of a 2 seat car is that it doesn't have 4 seats? Is it valid to say a Fiesta is useless because it doesn't have 7 seats? I drove mine from Cardiff to the north east, no problem, and Portsmouth and other places. It was never a problem. The only time I had a problem was when the Severn Crossings closed due to ice falling from the bridges and no-one was allowed, or one or two instances of high wind, during which everyone, particularly lorries, had to slow down. So nothing unique to my 'city car'. If city car meant anything it would be, 'awesome car that copes fine with the motorway but in a city, demolishes trash like BMWs at the traffic lights, humiliating the drivers who invariably have feeble egos and think acceleration matters, doesn't have useless seats, can carry all your shopping and is much easier to park and cheaper to run, insure and fuel.' So... just better for almost all journeys humans actually take.
@zeberday1 it doesn't catch all though. It suggests to people who don't live in cities that it won't be suitable for them, so they go and buy SUVs instead. 'Smaller range', 'runaround', 'second car' are all better terms to describe these vehicles.
Surely the "City" label is much more about size than range! Would you like them to be called something catchy like Quite Small Car with a small turning circle? Assuming that people will not be able to work out that City Cars can be driven outside cities is a bit of an insult to the human race
@gap9992 just 'small car' is fine. City car is a pretty poor description for cars that will predominantly not be driven within cities and only serves to discourage non-city-dwellers from buying them. Do you think it contributes to or helps to ease so-called range anxiety? When I got my electric car the first thing everyone asked was "what's the range?" and I wanted to say "I don't care and neither should you".
As a French guy I used to buy the 1st version of Twingo in 1994 (then I went for a long trip around... UK with it, creating quite a bit of astonishment among the UK population 😏). This was a great little car, with a huge clear space inside. Its only serious defect was its old gas-guzzling motor. This electric project seems to pay a very nice tribute to the 1st version of Twingo
Personally, I put engine re-metallizer at each oil change on my Twingo 1 (from 75 thousand kilometers), and the performance increased significantly (consumption; vibration and noise at 130 km/hour).
If I remember correctly the UK never got the original Twingo. The problem was they couldn't put the steering on the right as something was in the way..
Great to see Renault doing another classic again. Drove a first gen Twingo and loved it. Hope the interior can be turned into a bed again. That was so nice on long drives for little naps.
Renault are really killing it. Even the Zoe, even though it's an older car, is a masterstroke in ev building. And their latest (megane, scenic, 5 and this) are just all great for their respected fields. Big up!
From any other manufacturer I wouldn't trust that the production version would look like this concept, but bar the big wheels and some minor details like the screen badge and fully flush panels I believe them that the production version will look almost identical. Mostly because the Renault 5 ended up looking exactly like the concept and judging by the spy images and the teasers the same applies to the new 4.
Its not cute, its very futuristic and sporty looking, probably the best looking car to date, RENAULT, please sell it in the UK, its brilliant and I want one, NOW.
Kudos to Renault.... genuinely interesting small cars in the 5, 4 and Twingo! Showing VAG and Stellantis how to do cool small cars - genuinely got me interested in French cars for the first time in a long time...
I'm tempted the say that Smart with the #1, #3 and #5 all develop cars in the same way with Geely providing all bits you don't see and Mercedes Benz doing the design and stylin of the car and interior
Historically, the major ICE companies often collaborated on cars, and shared platforms with their competitors. It's not new in any way. Even Ferrari will use indicators from a Ford Fiesta and just charge ten times as much (actually more than ten times) to their gullible consumers. I'm still hoping they'll do a modern Smart ForTwo but I'm not expecting it to be as good as a Chinese Smart EV clone (which are better than Mercedes could manage).
Yes, finally! This is the EV I've been waiting for! Small on the outside, efficient use of space, four doors, cute styling and affordable. No other EV has ticked these boxes yet, and I'm so glad this is!
It looks so good. I hope they don't change too much on the production version, because they nailed the design. And I'm curious for the interior, Renault usually does a great job on them.
Hope this gets to production. Much more attractive than the five to me. And I want to see enough on the streets of Paris to play Twingo Bingo once more
I'm still driving my original 2001 Twingo in almost exactly that color as my winter / city car. It was one of the best small cars ever, and so far I haven't found anything newer that would do me as well. Maybe I'll hold out to 2026 and then replace it with the new Twingo. Just hope they get the interior and the comfort right. While I use mine mostly in the city and on short range nowadays, the original Twingo was surprisingly comfortable on long distances. Many modern cars (not only small ones) are too stiffly suspended (cause everything wants to be a sportscar nowadays, even 2.5t SUVs) and have surprisingly hard seats on long journeys
Love the looks they nailed it, a proper homage to the first gen Twingo, Renault awesome job :) cant wait to see it on the road, and yeah it will be build here in Slovenia at Renaults Revoz plant :) Great video and keep it up
My word... If THIS does not become a huge success, there is something definitely wrong with the whole world... 😇 I just dearly hope they don´t price it out of my budget!
Ginny, I have no idea, which version you are talking about, that had troubles with hills?!! The Twingo was the first car I unknowingly drove a 100miles per hour in (back in my car sharing days in Germany) and it happily climbed the hills south of Dortmund, in difference to the very old Renault 4, or a back then brandnew Smart we had in our fleet. Or even worse was a Corsa with an Eco Gearbox, which was having bit of anissue on those same hills…
Renault are on a roll at the moment. The 5 looks fantastic, this is cute, the 4 looks decent too. Only thing I will say is these cooler EV designs are making the Megane, Scenic and their Petrol cars like the Clio and Captur look at bit dated.
Renault are producing some great looking cars. It's a pity the dealers and the old school servicing schedules where the charge ££££s to just look at your EV every year are so bad.
Absolutely agree! The 3 year warranty is also a joke. After 3 years of a Zoe, I can tell you that you'll wish for 5. It's a driver for why I'm going Kia next.
I don't know. It looks freaking fantastic. Or is it because vehicles of the last 2 decades look like 14.99 £ sneakers stretching lines in every direction. I thought they had already showed the concept, waiting for the actual release in 2026 will be difficult to keep interest on it. Anyway, I love the og twingo, it was a fantastic little car with so much character, I hope they keep the practicality features that made it famous.
I absolutely adore this design. And while I understand that being small is part of the package, I wish they would release a Twingo+. This same car, but longer wheelbase, and longer overall to give more interior space, and maybe raise it up a bit to ease entry and exit. People hate the SUV-trend, but those cars are very easy to get in and out of.
I had the first generation Twingo and the air vents on the hood were not for the engine in the original, they were for the coupe (which is also needed in an electric car). The air intake for the engine was a small barely visible air intake at the front of the car just above the bumper. about the same place as there is a black list on this one (probably a tribute).
The Chevy Bolt (3 in my family) was a collaboration between Chevrolet (body and overall design) and LG Energy (battery, controller & motor). GM and LG partnered to develop their new "Ultium" battery system and "platform."

To be fair the Renault 5 barely changed from the concept. I think these videos are far more interesting/useful than static photos. If it's not for you, you didn't have to watch the video
Obviously 5 doors is more practical but adds to cost and weight, a 3 door would be more of a niche in the market competing only with the very overpriced Fiat 500e, whereas this will be competing (probably unsuccessfully) with Renault's other small offerings (the 4 and 5).
Looks really cool and cute! The only thing i don't like is the back window with that frame and the "vents" on the hood. I'm thinking more of Volkswagen up! and Honda e when i see it tho.
The Retro lineup will only work for a couple of years, but it is a very reasonable move to make legacy automaker’s cars more desirable than the soulless Chinese competition.
Kinda weird how you say it is "like a love child between the Fiat 500 and the Ford Ka", while most of all, it looks very much like the original Twingo, which had a distinct and iconic design on its own.
Absolutely. If anything the Ka was inspired by the original Twingo. One of the best small city cars ever, such a great concept!
My thought exactly...

Sometimes I think they use chatgpt to write the scripts.
indeed. The Fiat 500 and the Ka where 2-door cars. This is nothing like that. It has 4 doors and looks like that latest 4-door Twingo
Thank god it's still friend shaped.
It wouldn't be Twongi if not fren shaped.
Yeah I think that as weird as it looks, it's a nice break from all the "aggressive" looking cars
That green paint is absolutely beautiful.

It’s good to see that the streets will soon be filled with smaller, affordable cars again. Perfect for tight city roads and car parks

Totally agree ....well said.
Small affordable cars in 2024? Yeah sure... Even a Fiat 500 or 500e costs as much as a fully equipped limousine two decades ago.

I love my Clio E-Tech hybrid. I like its styling. I like that’s it’s European made and it’s my first car and I’m gonna ride it till dies
Looks really cool and cute! The only thing i don't like is the back window with that frame and the "vents" on the hood. I'm thinking more of Volkswagen up! and Honda e when i see it tho.
looks amazing
That face: Nigel Farage - just me? It’s a dealbreaker for me!

Can we please start getting these epic French Ev’s in Canada
