I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now,
I've got to make it to Heaven somehow.
Though the devil tempts and tries to turn me around.
    He's offered everything that's got a name
All the wealth I want and worldly fame,
But if I could, still I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now.
I started out traveling for the Lord many years ago,
I've had a lot of heartaches, had a lot of troubles and woes.
Oh, when I would stumble, then I would humble down.
I'd say, "Thank the Lord, I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now."
There's nothing in this world that can ever take the place of God's Love,
Silver and gold could never buy His love from above.
When my soul needs healing and I begin feeling His power,
I can say, "Thank the Lord, I wouldn't take nothing for my journey now.

The Statesmen, Blackwood Brothers, Rebels, Speers, Stamps we’re part of the Singin’ Time in Dixie syndicated show. We got it in Indiana but strangely never got the Singing Jubilee.

I like this version of "I Wouldn't Take Nothing For My Journey Now, but I still think The Happy Goodman Family are #1 on this Particular SONG !

My favourite lineup of this group was what they had in the 50's until Denver Crumpler died in '57, but this group ranks right up there.

Denver Crumpler was one of the best Irish Tenors I ever heard even though I was too young to remember him until about 10 years ago.

In 1964 The Florida Boys hosted the Gospel Jubilee. The groups then consisted of The Florida Boys, Happy Goodmans, Dixie Echoes and the Couriers. I also remember the Stamps being on the show, The Hensons as well as the Speers. There was also a program called Gospel Singing Caravan with the, LeFevres, Blue Ridge Quartet and Johnson Sisters and a little later, the Prophets Quartet, Chuck Wagon Gang, Rambos, Naomi and the Segal Brothers. The Statesmen, Blackwood Brothers, and Oakridge Boys with Willie Win were also on one of these programs but I don't recall which one. I remember watching both programs as a child. The Gospel Singing Caravan was the first one on TV but Gospel Jubilee became more popular after it was introduced on TV. Loved both programs.

I remember both of these shows and there was a third show called The Wally Fowler Show. I enjoyed all of them. Brings back some really good memories.

when I was very young we watched a show called Gospel Jubilee and it had the Statesmen, The Stamps, and The Blackwood Brothers. It was wonderful and I so appreciate you putting this on here.

I watched the Gospel Jubilee when I was growing up. The one I watched came on early Sunday morning in the 70's and had The Rex Nelon singers, The Goodmans, The Speers and other guest. I think it was hosted by The Florida Boys. I loved that program. The Blue Ridge Quartet came on after the Gospel Jubilee went off. It was a great program also. When The Blue Ridge Quartet went off, it was time to head out the door to church.

Come to think of it, they didn't lose anything when they picked up Jack and Rosie. The great Big Chief is the star of any version of the group anyhow.

They are great. The only group that I have heard sang that song that good is the Masters 4 of the 70's and 80's. I love the song. It makes you feel good inside.

"I gotta make it to Heaven SOMEHOW"? Somehow will not work. There is only one way to Heaven and that's through the name of Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God.

although you’re right, it’s a song that came out in very, very old days. gospel music is often like this so there’s no reason to get offended. my grandfather, the big chief is very talented so pay attention to the singing and talent and not the lyrics if it makes you mad.
