It brings tears to my eyes..... The I met the master and now I belong to Him! It's the best we can experience in life! So let's go out and spread the good news of Jesus! Thank you for this video with The Statesmen whom I got to know by the net. They were gorgeous, esp. Jake Hess!
Love these guys. Jake Hess and Hovie Lister what a Godly pair. I am so glad they are home together where they will never be separated again. When I think how awesome they were here, with Rosie and the big Chief can't imagine how beautiful they sound in heaven. God bless them all. We have a lot of "God's singers" over there. Makes me homesick to go.
Jake was in better health when this was made. Just looking at all of these old videos brings tears just thinking of the glorious singing in Heaven. Can't wait to hear it! It will be grand.
How can you not love that man - Jake Hess just loves God so much doesn't he ? Yes I know he's no longer with us but he is with Christ so this life may have ended but his new life has begun. What a lovely, lovely man.
Jake and Hovie, my hearts desire on that great getting up morning is to see my Saviour first. Then I'm going looking for the Statesmen. God is going to have some fantastic singers!!
I think we all can break down and cry singing this song too. You can't help but see the love for Christ in Jake. I too can't wait to meet him in heaven some day. Maybe we can all sing with him. What a chorus that will be. All in glory and honor to our Lord!!
I think what is so wonderful about this video is the love shown Jake by Hovie. What a long term wonderful friendship they must have had. It's Gospel music at its best. Thank you for posting it. Bob.
What a heavenly choir we have in heaven to hear one day. My brother Allen joined them 7 years 9 months ago. I know he’s singing with them. I miss you Allen!
They changed the film...because Jake cannot sing and cry at the same time. I remember Bill Gaither saying that, and I know exactly how he feels. the love and gratefulness is so overwhelming it fills one to the brim! Mandi Parrs
I heard the Statesmen in 1958 to 1960 in Nashville Tn. in the all night gospel sings the first Friday of the month. There was of course many other great groups, but the Statesmen were my favorites. I still have three of their albums signed by them. Great music and great memories. God bless all of them.
@thehook04 for me, James Blackwood IS southern gospel. i watch this video and another one like it over & over. can't wait to get to Heaven and shake his hand again, and listen to him and all the others singing praises to our Lord.
Jake was wonderful but don't forget he wasn't with the Statesmen as long as Doy Ott was there, Doy was there for 27 years. from the start nearly as he played the piano for them when Hovie had to join the war effort. Doy Ott was a brilliant baritone and could sing the other parts as well if necessary and also wrote songs and played the accordion and many other skills and also the love he had for the Lord and his audience just poured out in that smile.
This was recorded in 1995-early 1996 as Brother Rozell was still alive. The Statesman Quartet:Rosie Rozell (1928-1995),first tenor,Reverend Hovie Lister(1926-2001),owner and manager, Jack Toney(1933-2004),lead/baritone, and Jake Hess(1927-2004),second tenor/lead.
Luke 17:13-16 And they lifted up their voices, and said, Jesus, Mas✝️er, have mercy on us. And when he saw them, he said unto them, Go shew yourselves unto the priests. And it came to pass, that, as they went, they were cleansed. And one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, and with a loud voice glorified God, And fell down on his face at his feet, giving him thanks: and he was a Samaritan.🛐

Jake had the best singing voice. This shows how deep his faith was and the bond between Hovie and Jake. See you one day in the future Jake.

This is strange to hear Jake without his signature singing style. He’s more relaxed here. With a singing voice closer to his actual speaking voice.
that is NOT jake on lead
