Once again you and Ben have come through to help me. I have been trying and trying to have a successful auto mission takeoff for my wing with zero luck. I read and re-read the instructions on Ardupilot but the delay was too long and the wind ended up powering right into the ground. I had googled the issue before. But, today is the first time your video came up. I bought a lotto ticket tonight and if I win, I'm going to remember you and Ben.

I'm incredibly intrigued by the idea of "flying" the thing via computer. Hand launch then set waypoints on a map, select a mission, etc while being able to see location, telemetry, etc. I was in UAV squadrons in the Marine Corps and this is basically how they're flown...more "told where to go" than actually flown. I think it'd be really cool to be able to do that with my own little bird.
We used crazy tracking dish antennas to communicate with ours...are there radios that you can mount on these that can communicate with a computer and Flight Planner at range?

    • @Painless360

Yep, check out my videos on the telemetry radios and mission planner... best of luck!

@@Painless360 Perfect. Will do. My wing JUST got here today...literally 5 minutes ago. I'm going to build it and fly it around some, do the FPV thing, might slap an FC in it soon, etc.
But I'm going to get a Believer and set up all the real deal stuff in that. That's going to be my long range bird. 😁
      Thanks, man.

Lee, thanks for the video. Could please describe the definition of "Takeoff waypoint" in the world of QGControl in relation to a quadcopter VS fixed wing. I am flying a fixed wing with PixhawkMini and it flies very well in stable, RTL modes, but mission mode works at sometimes and some times does not. I arm, flip auto mission switch on Tx, hand launch, motor kicks in, plane flies off perfectly, but rather than going to the waypoint #1, its start circling. I have done several auto missions on my quadcopter without any issue but fixed wing is hit and miss.

That is such a cool feature. I love Arudplane and how flexible it is. Any chance of finally getting a Herelink installed and demo'd on a fixed wing? I can't wrap my head around how to use it with a spring loaded throttle.

@@Painless360 Fingers crossed it's got HD video like the Herelink. The only other system for fixed has been the Parrot Disco, which I have, but it's not really meant for long range like the Herelink/Pix combo. Such high hopes for that system. It's gathering dust on my shelf sadly.

I just set this up on my nano talon today. I did 20deg pitch thinking that would be more than enough. Full throttle. When I throw straight and level it dips and I had to intervene and give up elevator. Should I be chucking it more upwards to avoid the dip? I didn't want to risk stall by doing that. I have a switch on the Taranis that gives some up elevator that I have been using for manual launching and it takes off much better.

I do not understand the trend of 'shake to wake' at all! Why defeat the saftey feature of auto-launch? Why not just throw it and let the motor start when it is away from you? I've been doing this for months and it works great. A delay of 0.4 seconds gets it well away from your hands.
