Even the dish pasta fazool some people just qualify I guess you would say the proper name pasta fagioli but either way I am certain the food prepare to your home is fantastic

Looks great! I'm Slovak, and had egg noodles and cabbage often growing up, and I make it occasionally. No meat, just a little sour cream mixed in, often along side grilled kielbasa. We did call it halusky, but true halusky is spaetzle-like dumplings made from potatoes. The use of egg noodles makes it Americanized halusky, kind of like chow mein is Americanized Chinese food. No matter, it is great no matter what!

This is a wonderful post you have added and although I like the meat-free alternative. Do not get me wrong I love meat. But I also wanted to say that your idea of using kabasi would be the perfect accompaniment for this! I am a kabasi maniac and love it! I can eat the entire ring of kielbasa by myself. I am going to make this next time and have kielbasa on the side

I like to cook the onion and sausage together to almost carnelize the onion. Then in goes the cabbage till it wilts down. Then in goes in the noodles. Onions and sausage were cooked in butter. I’ve found no matter whichever order you cook it, it’s all delicious. Sauerkraut is new to me so definitely going to try it.

For the complement. I do this, not only because I love to cook, but my true labor of love is to encourage others to cook and ultimately bring families back around the table and even cook together. We need that so much in our world...so old fashion values! I always say, “if you cook it, they will come!”. Just so you know, coming this Sunday will be Polish City Chicken (a favorite of mine). Be well and stay safe and thanks again!

I make this last week and liked it. The only thing is I decided to cook up a whole package of bacon to have for BLT later and it resulted in a lot more grease. Seeing as I did not use a cast iron pan my pan held a lot of the grease and it did not cook down like yours. So when I added the butter it was really too much. I think depending on how much grease you have left use that to judge how much butter you add.

You either save the bacon grease or only cook half the package.

Susan Fenner I enjoy a beer (or a few) while cooking even when not making videos. Some like wine but not me...beer all the way. Since cooking is my get away...why not take beer with me (also it adds courage to try things and not fear of messing it up...if I do, I laugh and just call Domino’s - true story...lol!)

My grandmother used to make this, but she didn't put in the bacon or kielbasa. I'm going to try this, but one suggestion. If after you've deglazed the pan, if you poured out the sauce in the bottom, turned the heat down to low, added the cabbage/onion mixture, then carefully pour your sauce over the cabbage, the sauce will coat the mixture, then turn the heat back up, and your first fold will be less messy. Especially if you're cooking on a gas stove.

That’s my maiden name and I’m from Greenpoint, Brooklyn….also known as Little Poland. Greenpoint is famous for its Polish butchers and at Easter time, the lines to get into the “better” butcher shops literally went around the block. I live in Florida now, so it’s slim pickings’ for good pizza, kielbasi and pierogi, and almost any decent Italian foods. Thank goodness y I know my way around a kitchen or we would’ve starved….lol! Mike I think it's wonderful. In the southern states (Ga) we make this dish very much like yours. Cabbage goes so well with lots of things, I can understand why during the depression cabbage was popular. So because I did not know the history of haluski and only knew it as cabbage with sausage I looked it up and found two links if allowed. First it was more broad than people believe and did have meat in it.... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cabbage_stew
Second was the name actually implies it was describing the noodles made from flour batter and potatoes. Interesting history... en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halu%C5%A1ky
    Again, I like your dish!
I think cabbage and carrots were the first dish I ever tried to eat cabbage, since then I've cooked it several ways and never disappointed.

If you do that you will be making a whole differnt dish. Just make braised cabbage apple slaw. Red cabbage sliced thin. Granny Smith apples. Bacon and onion. Use some applencider vinegar brown sugar and a cinnamon stick some apple juice. Cook 1 lb (bacon reserve)use bacon fat to cook your sliced onion then when they turn transparent add your cabbage and vinegar and some apple juice and cinnystick. Let that cook down until aldente then add sliced apples and Brown sugar. Braise until all cooked. Serve hot garnish with chopped bacon. The dish should have a bit of crunch. Use a nice pig pan with a lid keep it covered while cooking and stir frequently low heat. I love this dish it is great for the holidays. And it goes well with pork also.
